Have we hit the limits of DEI and Black History Month? Wilkerson argues that race is deeply embedded within the larger framework of caste. If you haven't yet read Isabel Wilkerson's Caste: The Origins of Our Discontent, or even if you have, you'll find that there’s a lot to chew on and understand from this paradigm. Our efforts in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) often falter because we haven't fully acknowledged the breadth of the challenges involved. A new clarity about race, prejudice, and bias can emerge when you consider them within the context of caste. To truly grasp this, we need to zoom out to a broader perspective. It's not that we're failing or losing ground; we're simply not tackling the issue on the correct scale. In mathematics and engineering, we'd refer to these as “boundary conditions” or “limits.” DEI initiatives make sense within specific boundaries and limits. It’s like we’re on the edge of the set in The Truman Show. Wilkerson and DuVernay are shining a light on the encompassing structure of caste. I hope you support the film and novel. #CasteTheOriginsOfOurDiscontent #AvaDuVernay #IsabelWilkerson #DEI #BlackHistoryMonth #UnderstandCaste #SupportTheArts #Leadership #SocialJustice #Equality #Inclusion #Learning

Today, we celebrate Juneteenth, a monumental day in American history that marks the end of slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865, the news of freedom finally reached the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. This day stands as a powerful reminder of resilience, hope, and the enduring struggle for freedom and equality. As we honor Juneteenth, I can’t help but reflect on the profound changes brought about by the digital age. In 1865, the journey of news across the nation was slow and difficult. Today, we live in an era where information is instantly accessible, connecting us across vast distances in mere seconds. This rapid flow of information has transformed our world, empowering individuals and communities to share their stories, advocate for justice, and drive societal change. The digital age has given a voice to the voiceless, uncovered truths, and sparked movements that push us towards a more inclusive and equitable society. As we commemorate Juneteenth, let’s recognize the role technology plays in amplifying these vital narratives, spreading awareness, and fostering a deeper understanding of our shared history. Let us use this moment to not only remember the past but also to envision a future where technology continues to break down barriers, promote equality, and bring us closer together as a global community. Happy Juneteenth!

I like this quote I read about Juneteenth, "Juneteenth, the day we celebrate the end of slavery, the day we memorialize those who offered us hope for the future and the day when we renew our commitment to the struggle for freedom.”
Allyship fosters a culture of inclusion and helps us advance toward a level playing field at work. Being an ally means we do the work to understand things outside our comfortable circles and then act to support others. This week, let's grow our knowledge about Juneteenth. 🌟 Honoring Juneteenth by Embracing Authenticity 🌟 Today, on Juneteenth, I reflect on the significance of this day and what it means to be truly authentic. Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States—an important milestone in our ongoing journey toward equality and justice. As we celebrate freedom, I am reminded of the power of authenticity. Being authentic means embracing all aspects of who we are—our heritage, our experiences, and our unique perspectives. It's about honoring our stories and standing proudly in our truth. Personally, Juneteenth is a time for me to reflect on my own journey and the vast intersections of identities that shape me. It's a day to acknowledge the struggles and resilience of my ancestors, whose sacrifices paved the way for my opportunities today. In the professional world, authenticity fosters inclusivity and innovation. When we bring our authentic selves to work, we create spaces where diverse perspectives thrive and where everyone can contribute their best ideas. This is still a work in progress for me and something I strive towards more and more each day. Let's use this Juneteenth as a reminder to celebrate diversity, cultivate empathy, and champion authenticity in all that we do. Together, we can create a future where every voice is heard and every individual is valued. "Be yourself, everyone else is already taken."--Oscar Wilde #Juneteenth #AuthenticallyMe #EmbraceYourStory
