Goodbye BAs, UI designers, specialist front-end developers, back-end developers, database designers, testers and single-function line managers. Hello AI ! The proposition is that AI is going to take over routine expertise and make it wasteful to have narrow single-function specialists. It with then be critical that organisations are designed to maximise learning and adaptiveness by people. Most organisations are not designed for this. Many see learning on the job as wasteful and inefficient. Thus we need to rethink the organisational design as well as leadership attitudes. Like Craig, my first job title was "analyst programmer". I also like "multilearning product developer". Can AI really code faster than humans, and if so, by how much? 🤖💻 I decided to put it to the test with my personal project, MPG (Marketplace Global). Over the last month, I’ve developed an optimized workflow that improves bit by bit each day. As I diversify my skill set with AI I've realized you have to be on-top of AI in order to be ahead of everyone. AI changes rapidly, so my optimized workflow for one month might be different the next month. This morning, coffee in hand, I wondered: How much code have I written compared to senior engineers? According to research, the average engineer writes 300-500 lines per day, assuming an 8-hour workday. Now, I'm still a beginner in many ways, but I can understand most code languages. So here was my experiment: Use my AI-powered workflow for one hour and see how much quality code I could generate. The result? In one hour I cranked out 342 lines of working code! 😲 That's what it would take a team of 8-10 senior engineers to accomplish in that time frame. Total cost of the AI tools? Under 6 cents! Of course, the AI didn't do it alone. The key was optimizing the workflow between myself and the tools. I needed to carefully prompt the systems and feed them the right inputs. But combining my human guidance with AI capabilities let me multiply my productivity massively compared to manual coding. I'm beyond excited by the potential here!
