The Vice President – Underwriter will be responsible for the processing various Borrower consents (aka Special Requests) on loans in Berkadia’s Servicing portfolio. Special Requests include, but are not limited to, assumptions, transfers of ownership interests, modifications, collateral substitutions, lease reviews/terminations, property management/franchise changes and partial releases of collateral. The primary responsibilities of this position will be to personally handle or oversee the underwriting of a number of more complex and high-profile transactions as well as more routine matters and manage the entire Lender consent process internally and externally in a high volume, high pressure environment. Transactions must be underwritten and processed in accordance with the loan documentation, GSE Guides, servicing agreements and internal guidelines.

  • Perform (or oversee contractor’s) underwriting of transactions & consents as noted above
  • Ensure that Lender’s and Investor’s credit standards are maintained and that risks identified are properly mitigated
  • Effectively and continually communicate to all concerned parties, including Berkadia Mortgage Bankers, the progress of the underwriting and approval processes
  • Maintain a pipeline of 20 – 30 transactions ensuring that all deals are progressing in accordance with document and Servicing Agreement requirements as well as Borrower expectations
  • Assist in development of team members in Hyderabad, India
  • Manage all escalated and/or complex issues. Elevate issues to Senior Management when appropriate
  • Manage relationships with external legal counsel, vendors, clients, investors and internal customers
  • Perform other special projects and assignments as needed
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Experience with McCracken Strategy also required

  • Knowledge of commercial real estate finance, servicing operations and commercial mortgage documentation
  • Highly organized individual with excellent written & oral communication skills, as well as negotiating skills
  • Ability to resolve complex issues
  • Excellent research, organizational and analytical skills. Keen sense of time management with attention to detail, solutions and results
  • Ability to work under pressure and adhere to strict deadlines with a high volume of work
  • Knowledge of Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Ginnie Mae, HUD and CMBS government guidelines and requirements
  • Training and development of team members in US and India
  • Five to seven years prior experience in a similar position.
