The Role

JPA Health is seeking a Staff Accountant for our growing Agency. The Staff Accountant is an essential member of the Finance and Accounting team, reporting to the Finance Director and providing support to the wider Operations team.

This position is a hybrid role reporting to our Washington, D.C. office approximately 2 days per week.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage accounts payable function, including new vendor setup, processing and coding vendor invoices, reconciling purchase orders, preparing weekly payments, and managing vendor relationships.
  • Manage accounts receivable function, including preparation and delivery of client invoices, recording incoming payments, and managing collections.
  • Reconcile daily bank activity, including coding of payments and regular monitoring of cash balance.
  • Prepare GAAP-basis balance sheet account reconciliations as part of month end close process.
  • Process employee payroll, including calculating wages, deductions, and taxes while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations
  • Assist in employee onboarding, including providing time and expense entry training to new employees and freelancers.
  • Monitor the finance shared inbox and respond to requests timely.
  • Work alongside account teams to set up new jobs within ERP system.
  • Manage and make regular updates to contract tracker, and initiate action items as needed.
  • Assist with documentation and support gathering for annual financial audit.
  • Assist with ad hoc projects and agency-level financial analysis.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree with 2 – 5 years of related accounting experience.
  • Proficient in GAAP-basis account reconciliations and general ledger management.
  • Experience in managing receivables, payables, and payroll functions.
  • Experience working with ERP systems (NetSuite and/or Deltek a plus).
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel (i.e. lookups, pivot tables, and formula logic).
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy, with excellent organizational and analytical skills.
  • Strong sense of customer service with a proactive approach to managing multiple priorities and identifying opportunities for process improvements.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Agency or professional services experience preferred.
