Social Media and Communications Specialist

Reporting to the Executive Director of Communications, the Social Media and Communications Specialist is responsible for the social media channels of Associated Wholesale Grocers, Inc. This person will develop creative and consistent messaging for all AWG channels. This teammate will need to be proactive in working with AWG Brands, Communications, and HR teams to develop content plans, deliver engaging content, and manage community interactions. In addition, this person will be integral in creating AWG Brands content aimed at driving sales in AWG member stores. This position will have a strong capability for strategy, reporting, & social media monitoring.


In addition, this person will develop content for the Communications team as well as conduct research, write, fact check, and edit internal and external communications.


Essential Functions:

  • Build, grow and cultivate strong relationships with the AWG Brands, Communications, and HR teams to implement and manage AWG’s social media strategy execution across all departments, platforms, and locations.
  • Work with AWG Brands and the Communications teams to develop social media content that aligns with brand strategy, creates brand awareness, showcases applicable events, and builds interest in AWG & AWG Brands.
  • Manage and help develop content for all AWG & AWG Brands social media pages, including Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube, and X. This includes possible monitoring on weekends and holidays.
  • Engage with followers and respond to comments and messages in a timely manner to foster community growth and satisfaction.
  • Track social media and digital marketing trends and share new ideas to help AWG’s social presence evolve.
  • Interpret, analyze and deliver relevant and timely analytics and reporting to show success and opportunities.
  • Assist with creating, revising communications, such as communication plans, email communications, etc.
  • Support corporate objectives that build cross-functional relationships across the company and increase stakeholder awareness and engagement through the writing, editing and distribution of weekly communication digest for each of AWG’s wholesale divisions.
  • Align brand messaging through creating or revising messages, including internal and external emails, and content for the public websites, employee intranet, and AWG member portal.


Requirements:

  • 3-5 years social media/marketing/communications experience.
  • Deep understanding of digital marketing including expertise in social media and experience using email platforms.
  • Excellent copywriting skills that will be used on social media, digital marketing, and occasionally more traditional channels.
  • Ability to work independently in a dynamic and evolving work environment.
  • Capacity to develop and deliver engaging in-person presentations whether for small or large groups.
  • Superior organizational aptitude as it relates to time management, meeting deadlines, and facilitating participation of teammates in given objectives.
  • Solid analytic and measurement competence, including concise and meaningful reporting creation.
  • Understanding of grocery and consumer product goods industry a plus.
