Position Description:

In the role of Indirect Tax Manager, you will join a dynamic Global Tax Team leading all aspect of US and Canada indirect taxes. This includes US sale and Use Tax, US property tax, US state and local government incentives and GST/HST/PST/QST in Canada. Specifically, you will develop and implement all aspects of Goodyear's state and local Indirect taxes of the U.S. tax law and Canadian indirect taxes. The position, working through a third-party service provider, will ensure that all US state and local indirect taxes and Canadian indirect taxes incurred by Goodyear’s U.S. and Canadian operations are correctly calculated and timely paid in accordance with state and local and Canadian laws. This position directs state and local and Canadian audits concurrently and is also responsible for U.S. state and local incentives. It is also responsible to ensure Goodyear’s U.S. and Canadian indirect taxes are properly determined and reported in accordance with U.S. GAAP and SEC regulatory rules.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Maintain the overall long-term state and local indirect tax and Canadian indirect tax strategy for the Company, managing associated tax risks, and communicating with associates at all levels on state and local and Canadian indirect tax matters as appropriate. Monitor changes in U.S. state and local indirect tax and Canadian tax laws to anticipate the impact on the Company and influence such changes where appropriate.
  • Working through a third-party service provider to ensure all US state and local indirect and Canadian indirect taxes are determined and paid in a cost-efficient manner and in accordance with all state and local and Canadian laws so that all penalties are avoided. Defend the Company’s positions taken against numerous state and local and Canadian audits.
  • Advise business teams and other internal business partners on indirect tax matters.
  • Leading the US state and local incentives process. Assisting the US State and local Income tax compliance reporting.
  • Responsible for timely/accurate tax accounting related to state and local indirect and Canadian indirect taxes in accordance with U.S. GAAP and SEC regulatory rules.
  • Assist in Decision Making to Positively Impact P&L/Cash Flow by research/assisting with special projects to improve cash flow and net income (regarding tax planning).
  • Mentor and develop direct reports; including oversee and direct tax analyst responsibilities, retention, training and development of a skilled workforce.

Required Experience And Education

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 7 or more years of experience encompassing State and local indirect tax experience.
  • Large multinational company experience strongly desired.
  • Experience with indirect tax software, ERP systems and process improvement automation tools such as Vertex, SAP, and Altryx desired.
  • Experience in negotiating tax issues in an audit setting and working knowledge of financial accounting (US GAAP) rules and US tax rules and practices.
  • strong tax research skills/experience.
