Graphic Artist – State of Iowa Department of Administrative Services (DAS)

As a Graphic Artist, you will have the chance to collaborate with diverse teams, work on a variety of projects, and contribute to the visual communication needs of state agencies. Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborative Design: Work closely with Print Shop staff and customers to identify project needs, ensuring timely and high-quality completion of design and layout activities.
  • Brand Management: Maintain and apply knowledge of authorized use of State and customer logos.
  • Photography: Provide professional photography services as required.
  • Software Proficiency: Utilize Adobe InDesign, Adobe PhotoShop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Dreamweaver, address validation software, Freehand, Planet Press Production Suite, Elixer (Xerox), Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, and other relevant software applications.
  • Art Creation: Use various tools (brushes, pens, pencils, mechanical drawing equipment, desktop publishing equipment, scanners) to create artwork.
  • Large Format Printing: Operate large format printer as needed.
  • Consultation: Act as an art consultant, developing and incorporating artwork into forms, pamphlets, booklets, reports, graphs, charts, posters, displays, illustrations, etc.
  • Advisory Role: Provide advice on the effectiveness, limitations, and cost differences of printing and graphics used in publications and presentations.
  • Design Standards: Maintain understanding and adherence to current design trends and standards.
  • Project Management: Manage assigned projects, providing updates and recommendations as necessary.
  • Prototyping: Produce high-quality prototypes and mock-ups with minimal modification.
  • File Management: Design, proof, maintain, and enhance files for print; merge variable data onto static forms.
  • Quality Assurance: Evaluate completed projects to ensure compliance with customer and USPS policies, procedures, and standards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in graphic design software and tools.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to high-quality standards.
  • Experience with large format printing and variable data printing processes.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with integrity.

Hours of work will be Full Time, Monday through Friday, 7:00A.M. – 3:30P.M.

This position requires handling confidential information, so the applicant will be required to have a Federal background check performed.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in art;

OR

graduation from an accredited four year college or university with major coursework in advertising which included nine semester hours of coursework in graphic arts or commercial art;

OR

graduation from a two-year community college with major coursework in commercial art or graphic arts may substitute for two years only of the required education;

OR

an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting one year as a graphic or commercial artist for one year of the required education with a maximum substitution of four years.
