Position Overview:

Under general supervision, the Immunization Program Generalist will ensure program compliance with the Texas Vaccines for Children (TVFC), Adult Safety Net (ASN) provider manual, and the COVID-19 Provider Policy. This position entails a collaborative effort with local health agencies, private physicians, community groups, and Public Health Clinics, emphasizing vaccine management quality assurance, provider training, and public health outreach. Individuals in this role will be responsible for managing TVFC and ASN vaccine ordering and tracking, maintaining a filing system, handling phone calls, transferring vaccines, and performing general office tasks like faxing and copying. The Immunization Program Generalist is also responsible for responding promptly and effectively to emails, completing and submitting reports by deadlines, maintaining a list of stakeholders and providers for community engagement in immunizations, and keeping a resource list of local medical providers for travel vaccines. Additional duties involve assisting with TVFC provider enrollment, and training, ensuring adherence to program rules, educating stakeholders about TVFC and ASN programs, possibly serving as a secondary coordinator, and responding to vaccine storage alarms, which may require availability during irregular hours.

The Immunization Program Generalist is expected to work well with the public and staff members and have strong written and oral communication skills.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Administrative Support: Maintains filing systems, manages phone communications, handles vaccine transfers, and performs general office tasks.
  • Communication and Reporting: Responds promptly to emails and completes and submits all reports by deadlines.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Maintains and communicates with a list of stakeholders and providers to increase community involvement in immunizations.
  • Resource Management: Maintains a compiled list of local medical providers and vaccination sites for traveling vaccines.
  • Provider Enrollment and Training: Assists with TVFC provider new enrollment, conducts provider training, and ensures adherence to program rules.
  • Educational Outreach: Provides education about the TVFC and ASN programs to stakeholders.
  • Program Coordination: Potentially serves as a secondary coordinator for the TVFC and ASN program.
  • Emergency Response: Responds to vaccine storage alarm systems, including during irregular hours.

Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Nursing, Health Administration, or a related field.


Experience:

  • At least three (3) years of experience working in a public health or healthcare setting.
  • At least one (1) year of experience in operational support.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, and ability to multi-task and adjust priorities as needed
  • Self-directed with a high degree of critical thinking, independent judgment, problem solving ability
  • Ability to analyze and report complex financial information to reach sound conclusions and make practical recommendations
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information

Education:

  • Preferred Master’s degree in Public Health, Health Administration, Nursing, or a closely related field.

  • Monday - Friday; 8 am - 5 pm
  • Must be willing to flex work hours when required, including weekends.
  • Expected to travel within Harris County jurisdiction.


Work Environment:

  • This job operates in a professional office and clinical environment.
  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.


Physical Demands:

  • This is a largely sedentary role; however, some duties would require the ability to lift up to 20 pounds and bending & standing for periods at a time.
