Reporting to the Global Creative Director, and working alongside Research, Sales, and Communications, the Digital Archivist is responsible for managing and executing pre- and post-photography processes on behalf of the gallery. This includes collaborating with our Operations team to understand what works are being photographed, and collecting the images from freelance photographers. The Digital Archivist is responsible for ensuring the photography matches the artwork through multiple rounds of color correcting, formatting the approved images, processing images to gallery standards, naming and organizing the files, uploading to the gallery server and database, and sending comprehensive updates of processed images to colleagues. This includes archiving artwork and installation photography for private sale, exhibitions, and art fairs worldwide. The Digital Archivist will also work with Communications to design and develop digital assets for website and social media applications including simple video documentation and editing.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Liaise on all imagery needs with gallery departments including Operations, Research, Communications, and Sales teams
Maintain a comprehensive, up-to-date archive of digital, video, and print images in Google Drive and on gallery database
Work with freelance photographers and videographers, and in-house Communications department to provide publish-ready content for the gallery website, media relations and advertising, exhibition catalogues, publications and promotional materials such as invitations, handouts, posters, and mailers for works at locations worldwide
Assist with video production including simple shooting and editing of images
For artwork and installation photography, identify key angles and formal details for all images prior to photoshoot
Manage the handover of images from the freelance photographers to Lévy Gorvy Dayan
Ensure desired image quality standards are met; editing and optimization—remove imperfections, adjust levels, correct color, etc. per staff requests
Scan/color-correct/re-touch/re-size images in multiple formats for various global gallery needs
Maintain production processes to ensure efficient workflow and avoid bottlenecks during busy periods
Maintain naming conventions and file structures for server file directory and physical files
Maintain an extremely organized image archive
Manage the production of color proofs for all printed images for New York locations, this includes printed exhibition graphics, invitations, and catalogs
Assist with website media/photography maintenance in coordination with Communications

EXPERIENCE:
3+ years of experience in digital archive management and understands “best practices”
Professional product photography and retouching experience in a digital print and/or web environment required
Experience photographing and videoing fine art, preferred
Proficient with Mac platform & software. Master-level Photoshop is mandatory, with a comprehensive understanding of color management required. Experience with Lightroom, InDesign, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Product Suite, Capture One Pro, ArtBase or another CRM database a plus. Must be proficient in Premiere Pro; After Effects proficiency is a plus.
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
