Director of Data Governance

• Position: Director of Data Governance
• Location: Tallahassee, FL (on-site)
• Compensation: $115- $120/hr C2C or 1099 OR $150,000/yr W2

Scope of Work:

• Data Strategy and Leadership: Revitalize and implement a comprehensive D&A strategy aligned with TekBank's mission and objectives, driving innovation and efficiency.
• Data Governance: Establish and enforce data governance policies to ensure data integrity, quality, privacy, and security, complying with regulatory requirements.
• Data Architecture and Infrastructure: Oversee the design and optimization of scalable data architectures to support data collection, storage, integration, and analysis.
• Data Analytics and Insights: Lead the development and deployment of advanced analytics and data science capabilities to derive actionable insights, informing decision-making processes.
• Data Literacy: Advocate for data literacy, developing and leading training programs for various data roles within the agency.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to understand data needs, prioritize initiatives, and promote data-driven decision-making.
• Talent Development: Lead a high-performing D&A team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence, and providing guidance and professional development opportunities.
• Technology Evaluation and Innovation: Evaluate emerging technologies and tools in data management, analytics, and visualization, identifying opportunities for innovation and optimization.
• Performance Measurement and Reporting: Establish KPIs and metrics to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of data initiatives, preparing regular reports for senior leadership and stakeholders.
• Leadership and Mentorship: Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to junior staff members, promoting a culture of continuous learning and excellence in D&A practices.

Mandatory Qualifications:

• 0-15 years of experience in data management, metadata management, data governance, or information management.
• Proven senior leadership experience overseeing data management, analytics, and governance initiatives.
• Broad understanding of data governance principles, data architecture, data analytics, and emerging technologies.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to influence and inspire cross-functional teams and stakeholders through storytelling, teamwork, and collaboration.
• Strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
• Excellent relationship management skills, including active listening and demonstrated interest in business challenges.
• Strong oral and written communication skills, including presenting and public speaking.
• Ability to translate technical insights into actionable strategies.
• Ability to determine work priorities and ensure proper completion of work assignments.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in data management in a scientific, governmental, or environmental context.
• Strong understanding of environmental science concepts, regulations, and challenges.
• Familiarity with data related to water quality, air quality, waste management, land conservation, or public recreation.
• Strong emotional intelligence skills.
• Experience in facilitation to elicit ideas, understand issues, and encourage group participation.

Education:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related IT field, or equivalent work experience
