The Assistant Quality Assurance Manager role will be located at our client's food production facility in Robersonville, NC. The role will be responsible for ensuring efficient production and compliance with all Company quality, safety, and Good Manufacturing Practices policies, and procedures. Plans, coordinates, and directs the quality assurance program designed to ensure that the plant and finished products conform to all customer, federal, and state regulatory requirements, as well as implements, supports, and maintains Corporate Quality Assurance policies and procedures.


Essential Functions

  • Provides direct supervision to the QA team across 3 shifts, including providing training and development opportunities, conducting performance reviews, coaching sessions, and weekly 1x1 meetings with direct reports.
  • Maintains and improves product quality by completing product and compliance audits, investigating consumer and customer complaints; and collaborating with other members of management to resolve issues.
  • Maintains the food safety aspect of the plant by participating in periodic internal audits of the facility to verify that procedures mandated by the company, state, and Federal governmental agencies are being adhered to. This includes GMPs, Sanitation, Food Safety Plans, and Safety.
  • Supports the Quality Assurance Manager in dealing with regulatory agencies, vendors, client company representatives, and auditors. Reviews and maintains all required processing records and regulatory inspections and reports.
  • Supervises the Quality Assurance Laboratory processes, including microbiological, chemical, physical, and sensory aspects of all food products manufactured at this facility. Supports and directs the coordination of the sampling and testing with Production.
  • Ensures that all preventative measures, as outlined in the Food Safety Plan, are executed, monitored, and reviewed to include corrective and preventative actions.
  • Supervises the Pest Control program in the facility through coordination with contracted pest control service representatives.
  • Participates in the development, updates, and implementation of the plant Food Safety program. Participates as a member of the cross-functional Food Safety team, including regular plant audits and monthly team meetings.
  • Supports maintaining the site's document control system with the implementation and uploading of Quality documents.
  • Ensures that plant personnel are properly trained regularly and that training is effective.
  • Complies with all GMPs, food safety, and quality procedures to ensure that food safety and quality objectives are met.
  • Complies with all safety policies and procedures to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Reports all safety, food safety, and quality problems to management.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.


Qualifications (Education/Experience)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or related field or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years’ experience in the Quality Assurance field and 2 years of supervisory/managerial experience is required.
  • Demonstrated increasing responsibility in a fast-paced manufacturing environment in the food industry.
  • PCQI certification and knowledge of implementing SQF Level III programs.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Strong skills using Excel and other QA data systems and reporting applications.
  • Self-direction with the ability to work independently, as well as with groups.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changing organizational and operational needs and lead others through change.
  • Sense of urgency and ownership regarding the role and needs of the organization.
  • Strong quantitative skills, interpersonal skills, and ability to think critically.
  • Strong team player and leader who can work across multiple functions and disciplines.
