Arts & Culture Curator

Job Summary: The Arts & Culture Curator is accountable for programming the guest artist season. The work involves designing, selecting, and contracting with artists to ensure that Arts & Culture fulfills its mission and achieves its goals in programming, education, and community involvement.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Education And Experience

  • A bachelor’s degree, preferably in an arts-related field of study
  • 2-4 years of successful performing arts programming experience or 5+ years of experience as a curator, performing artist, administrator, and/or a combination of the three.
  • Experience in developing and implementing imaginative programming ideas and a willingness to explore a variety of directions to create a diverse repertoire.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • A demonstrated ability to communicate responsively, and to develop and maintain positive, productive working relationships with staff, artists, donors, concertgoers, and volunteers.
  • Strong writing skills for grant proposals, publicity materials in a variety of media, and donor/audience development.
  • The ability to multi-task and manage firm deadlines.
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Conceive, research, and identify artists within the mission and budget to create a compelling season.
  • Communicate effectively with artists/agents to ensure that performance standards for excellence are met.
  • Oversee travel, hospitality, and production logistics for artists in conjunction with vendors (tech, stage manager, catering, hotels, etc.).
  • Incorporate educational programs and master classes with the Music, Worship & Performing Arts department in line with the college and department mission.
  • Provide timely written information for grants, marketing, and program notes.
  • Be a significant onsite presence at Arts & Culture performances in service of artistic, audience, and donor cultivation, and take a leadership role in cultivating donors and new audiences.
  • Maintain a visible and active role in Central PA’s artistic community as a face of Lancaster Bible College, including communicating when applicable with the media, while helping develop the image of LBC Arts & Culture within the Central PA area; network with professional performing artist colleagues and agents.
  • Donor relations: participate in the overall cultivation of annual fund donors; interface with donors and patrons over the phone, email, and events.
  • Assist with organizational strategic planning and growth, including long-range artistic programming.
  • Attend meetings with the Events Department and other college constituencies.
  • Provide support for special events as needed.
