You're looking to hire a CISO. What are the most important skills you should be looking for?
How well they know TCP/IP. If they don't understand that, why are you even talking to them about the role? It's basic understanding of networks and with the new SEC regulations as well as the realities of the threat landscape, a "non technical CISO" is a liability.

You're looking to hire a CISO. What are the most important skills you should be looking for?
A CISO should be an expert on configuring, breaking, and securing TCP/IP. I know that sounds nuts, but it's true. We need deeply technical CISOs who can protect information on the wire. That's where breaches happen. Not in a board room. Brush up on your ports, protocols, and services if you're going to be a CISO. Sometimes the old ways are the best ways.
