“Michael is a rare breed: equal parts strategist and creative catalyst. Entrepreneur and company man. An idea guy who actually gets stuff done. A mentor and individual contributor. Insightful and focused, with humility and empathy. His professional network, both client-side and supplier-side, is immense, borne of decades of sales, marketing, and alliance management. For our company, and for me personally, Michael is a mentor, confidante, and co-conspirator. He has contributed to some of our biggest pitches and our boldest ideas, making us better at what we do, and helping our clients succeed in the process.”

A year later the region was still attracting a lot of excitement when I produced this piece discussing how South Korea was a growing hot spot for trials. Today, the entire region remains an area of interest for clinical studies.
The presence of quality CROs is not the only reason to take a close look at APAC. I spoke to industry consultant and Clinical Leader Editorial Board member, Michael W. Young, principal at biomedwoRx: Life Sciences Consulting, for his take on the growing clinical popularity of the region.Other authorsSee publication -

At the same time, trials are becoming more complex and new guidelines are being placed on sponsors.
What will all of this mean for the conduct of trials in 2020 and beyond?

These are not the Best of times for the pharmaceutical industry. More regulations, increased federal scrutiny, pricing pressures, and a tarnished public image all cloud the present — and future — of the industry. But along with these challenges come opportunities for meeting professionals — opportunities to not only elevate their status within their companies, but also to help the industry as a whole, said Michael W. Young, senior director, global oncology strategy, Eisai Inc., La Jolla, Calif., the keynote speaker at the Third Annual Pharmaceutical Meeting Planners Forum.
In a forthright, often sober, but ultimately inspiring address, Young, a previous Medical Marketing Association, “Medical Marketer of the Year,” told the nearly 1,000 meeting professionals in the audience at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia that they are “more vital to their organizations than ever before,” serving as logisticians, marketers, strategists, and compliance gatekeepers in today's highly regulated environment. They also play a critical role in improving the beleaguered image of the industry and substantiating the value of pharmaceuticals as a means to save lives and improve the quality of life for patients.
