I'm a bit late to the discussion on IGN Entertainment's acquisition of the Gamer Network. Seeing IGN Entertainment acquire the Gamer Network hits close to home for me. I grew up getting my gaming news and guides from mid-level publishers like Eurogamer and VG247. This consolidation trend is troubling, especially considering the layoffs and reduced editorial diversity that often follow. With my experience at ReedPOP, a subsidiary of Reed Exhibitions, I have insider knowledge of the dynamics at play. Reed should have invested more in these publishers because they didn't fit into the broader B2B portfolio strategy. A few months ago, I did the brave (albeit slightly delusional, we're going with brave for now) thing, and fulfilled a long-term personal goal of returning for good to my favorite city in the world, before turning...a certain milestone age. For this reason, I am now open for all sorts of new, exciting collaboration in the realm of People Operations - and I am looking forward to taking you on this adventure with me! 🎉 Some of the things I will do: ✅ Instill organizational culture and foster shared values among the team(s), because employer branding starts from within. ✅ Design and/or optimize a host of procedures that will make everyone's life easier...even when they don't know it. 📋 ✅ Anticipate and forestall challenges. ✅ Facilitate problem-solving initiatives that focus on the resolution - not the blame-placing. 🗝 ✅ Pore over square footage of paperwork at all hours, and love every minute of it. I've heard this called a superpower. 🔮 ✅ Find loopholes and fix them. ✅ Find loopholes and use them. ✅ Ask the right questions, and encourage others to ask any at all. It's not what we don't know that gets us - it's what we know for sure, that just ain't so. 🦉 ✅ ...find answers to the majority of said questions. No one is perfect, including Google. ✅ Design strategies for attracting, and even more importantly - keeping - incredible talent, that truly fits. 🤝 ✅ Take full ownership and be accountable for my team, projects, and decisions. ✅ Have hard conversations. ✅ Track and guide performance, to align individual and team progress with organizational goals. 🏅 ✅ Offer support to every beam of our organizational structure. 🧁 Things I will not, at any rate, in any context, for any reason, do: ❌ Support any discriminatory practices - regardless of how thinly or thickly veiled they may be. ❌ Knowingly share inaccurate information with stakeholders, or breach confidentiality in any direction. ❌ Foster conveyor belt recruiting practices. My focus is always on sustainable, quality growth. As an old boss and mentor of mine always says, "I'd rather have ten ninjas, than one hundred idiots." Don't worry though, we won't stop at ten. 🥷🐢 ❌ Run any social media accounts. Just let me find us the best community manager on the market, and our union will be much more harmonious. My view is that the Xbox Mobile App Store could emerge as a strong competitor to both Play Store and App Store, leveraging Xbox's gaming ecosystem, exclusive content, and cloud gaming capabilities. Its success hinges on developer adoption, user base expansion, and seamless cross-platform integration. By offering competitive policies and unique offerings, it might drive innovation and consumer choice in the app market. However, it faces challenges like regulatory scrutiny and the need to avoid issues that have plagued other major app stores.

Shocked to wake up to one of the largest layoff announcements this year. Take-Two Interactive announced it is cutting "5% of its workforce" and "several projects in development", which would mean around 550-600 employees would be affected. We don't know which studios of T2 are affected, so this could be detrimental to some of the studios... I once had an idea: if humans did not have the limit of aging and death, our accumulation of wisdom would continue forever. Scientists could keep working and push society forward without stopping. But because of the "death contract," even the best scientists have to stop their research at some point. Future generations then have to continue their work, and this makes technology and the world develop gradually. However, if AGI comes as expected by 2027, things could be very different. Unlike humans, AI will not face the limit of death. It can keep learning and working continuously, speeding up the progress of humanity and the world. AGI could take us into a future that would take millions of years for humans to reach by themselves. This situation reminds me of the Chinese saying “揠苗助长,” which means pulling up seedlings to help them grow. If humans are suddenly pushed into a future millions of years ahead, are we really ready? Are you ready to embrace the future?
