    In 2005, I joined my wife on a 2 month trip to Cameroon. She was a medical student at Boston University, which had a loose affiliation with this hospital. I traveled there having no idea how I was going to spend my time while my wife volunteered her medical skills. But shortly after arriving, I found a purpose.     In 2005, I joined my wife on a 2 month trip to Cameroon. She was a medical student at Boston University, which had a loose affiliation with this hospital. I traveled there having no idea how I was going to spend my time while my wife volunteered her medical skills. But shortly after arriving, I found a purpose. I split my time between teaching elementary math at a school run by the hospital, and teaching basic computer skills to the hospital staff. The experience was very rewarding, opening my eyes to the challenges faced in developing countries. I like to believe that in the small amount of time that I was there, I helped create economic opportunity for the hospital staff I taught and inspired an interest in science and mathematics in the students whom I was fortunate enough to spend so much time with.

    I have every intention of returning to this region of the world to spend much more significant time and energy to this end in the future, alongside my wife with her medical practice.

    I partnered closely with FAME Africa to win an innovation grant from LinkedIn for Good.

    FAME Africa's mission and sole agenda is to advance patient-centered care in rural Tanzanian communities. The grant will enable them to build a program to dramatically change the lives of people suffering from epilepsy in an area with almost no knowledge of the disease.
