We believe in the meaningful work of producing clean water.
About us
WaterOne is an independent public water utility. We've been proudly serving the Johnson County, Kansas area since 1957. Every day, over 400,000 customers rely on WaterOne to provide fresh, clean water on demand. It’s a responsibility we deliver on. Our passion is water because water touches everything we care about: family, health, safety, and community. We serve our community by bringing award-winning water to their homes, businesses, and public places. Our History We’re a public utility by customers, for customers. WaterOne was born from our customers’ desire for great water, reliably. In 1957, unsatisfied with the value and service from their water provider, residents in the Mission area came together to buy out the Kansas City Suburban Water Company. They reincorporated as public water provider Water District No. 1 of Johnson County. Today, we go by WaterOne and we’ve grown to service most of Johnson County. We’re able to grow to meet the demand because we follow our Master Plan, a comprehensive road map for expansion and sustainability. We make continual investments in infrastructure at the right time so a plentiful supply of delicious water is available for our customers. And we’re thinking about the future, carefully managing the utility so that our services are here for the next generation. At WaterOne, we believe in the meaningful work of producing clean water because we’re making it for you.

Today, let's celebrate our water's journey from the river to your tap, and the folks at WaterOne who help bring it there! 1: INTAKE: Our water comes from intakes and collector wells at both the Kansas and Missouri Rivers. This gives us plenty of water capacity for customers, and makes sure there is always a backup water source in case of an emergency. (Left to right) Brent McClintick, Bruce Shinabarger, Quinn Peery, Derek Dietz, Khyle Ousley, Darren Dockery, Curtis Brooks. 2: TREATMENT: Employees like Sean Arnett, who is pictured here, treat our water at two treatment plants which use state-of-the-art technology like Membrane Filtration and Ozone. This helps WaterOne stay ahead of emerging threats, as well as producing drinking water that wins state and national awards for its delicious taste. 3: TESTING: WaterOne is lucky to have its own accredited Water Quality Laboratory, which constantly tests water for over 100 substances and contaminants. We're proud that our water meets or surpasses all regulatory standards! Learn all about it in our latest water quality report at waterone.org/H2Oreports. Pictured here is Kyle Eckert, with some of our water samples! 4: DISTRIBUTION: It takes a lot of pipe to pump our award-winning tap water all the way to your home. There's 2,800 miles of pipe in our distribution system, which is almost the distance between LA and Boston! WaterOne's amazing Distribution Technicians, like Bud Tiedemann, install new water mains for growing neighborhoods, as well as proactively replacing pipes that are getting old. 5: DELIVERY: Before our water reaches your home, it makes one final stop at your water meter. WaterOne's friendly Field Services staff, including Lucas Brenner, as seen here, are always happy to help customers and will often give you a courtesy heads-up if the data suggests there may be a problem with your plumbing.
