    What you should know about breaking into investment banking: it’s hard. They may promise you a rose garden, but in reality, it is all different. This is a nightmare for students. First and foremost, the competition is intense. For every position, there are thousands of equally qualified students. Secondly, the skills required are challenging. Financial Modeling, Valuation techniques, Excel Mastery – and the pressure to master these concepts is immense. Thirdly, networking never stops. You have countless events to go to and cold email alumni on top of all this. And you would need to do this all while keeping up with your studies. It's exhausting. Nevertheless, in the midst of this struggle there lies hope because strength is born out of suffering; each rejection letter or setback can be taken as another lesson that life teaches about persistence. So what’s the game plan? - Begin early: Stop waiting until your last year. Get started from day one so that by the time you graduate you already have developed some professional relationships and acquired certain skills. - Learn Core Modeling Skills - Focus on learning Financial Modeling, Valuation, Excel and Accounting Skills. Challenge yourselves by preparing a financial model of a real company, this will give you immense learning and confidence. - Look for someone who has been through it before: Find an experienced person whose advice could be vital to your career advancement. - Stay current: The financial industry changes very quickly. Be aware of market trends and industry news. - Love the process: The path ahead is difficult but every small effort brings one nearer to their goal. Remember, the path to investment banking is a marathon, not a 100m sprint. It’s about discipline, hard work, learning the right financial skills and a bit of luck.
