Did you know? Organic wastes from food scraps or wastewater can be repurposed into fertilizer? Through a process called anaerobic digestion, these organic materials are broken down into nutrient-rich soil to help grow food. It also produces biogas, which can be converted into renewable natural gas for injection into the gas pipeline. Learn more about how we convert organic waste into energy at https://lnkd.in/enNC5Se4

Thanks to everyone who came out yesterday to our open house at the Richmond Water Pollution Control Plan to see the results of a three-year, $40 million construction project that will improve wastewater treatment, environmental compliance and odor control for the city of Richmond and nearby communities on San Francisco Bay. Veolia has operated Richmond’s wastewater treatment plant for more than two decades, and the construction project marks a significant step forward in modernizing the plant’s ability to effectively treat the city’s wastewater and protect its environment. The wastewater system improvements are expected to provide additional environmental and financial benefits to Richmond, as more efficient equipment will require less energy and lower levels of chemical treatment to operate, reducing the city’s costs as well as its greenhouse gas emissions. These achievements exemplify the goals of Veolia’s global #GreenUp strategy, which strives to lead the ecological transformation of the planet by accelerating water quality improvement, decarbonization and technological innovation. Veolia Water Milwaukee achieved an impressive milestone in May, going four years without a single lost time injury. That adds up to 1.6 million labor hours. During the week of June 24, employees celebrated this amazing accomplishment over several lunches and dinners at both plants. Leadership from Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD) also joined in the celebration.

Around the country we’re experiencing increasingly hot summers and the potential for drought in our communities. In Hawaii, where freshwater is limited, we partner with the Honolulu Board of Water Supply to operate the largest water reclamation plant in the state. Here, we employ state-of-the-art technology to treat secondary effluent previously discharged into the Pacific Ocean. As an O&M leader in water reuse in North America, we can help cities and companies adopt water reuse and recycling to progress towards your sustainability goals and become more resilient by protecting against drought risks, diversifying their water supply and saving costs. Veolia already operates 14 other wastewater and water treatment systems in North Carolina, ensuring a wealth of regional resources and expertise to support this new partnership.
