About us
For 100 years, UJA-Federation has been a central force for communal planning and philanthropy in the New York Jewish community. Through UJA-Federation, close to 50,000 donors pool their resources to help people in need, inspire a passion for Jewish life and learning, and strengthen Jewish communities around the world — to address the issues that matter to us most as Jews and as New Yorkers. Working with more than 100 network beneficiary agencies, synagogues, and other Jewish organizations, our reach spans from New York to Israel to more than 60 other countries around the world, touching 4.5 million people each year. Because we do the most good when we do it together. For more information, visit UJA-Federation’s website at www.ujafedny.org.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of our dear friend, the incomparable Dr. Ruth Westheimer. Her contributions to the New York Jewish community were marked by an enduring relationship with UJA and our nonprofit partners, including 11 years as president of the YM & YWHA of Washington Heights and Inwood, our nonprofit partner. Beloved for her candor and pioneering work demystifying sexual health, Dr. Ruth became a global icon. In recent years, she was also an activist in the fight against the growing loneliness epidemic. An orphan of the Holocaust, Dr. Ruth was one of Israel’s first female soldiers, who fought and sustained injuries in the 1948 War of Independence. She celebrated her 95th birthday with us at the Celebrate Israel Parade in 2023. Small in stature but immense in heart, Dr. Ruth’s wisdom, wit, originality, and legacy will continue to inspire us all. May her memory be a blessing.

Campers and counselors alike learn valuable skills, develop a connection to the Jewish community, and make life-long friendships. Ilan, a camper-turned-counselor, recently told us about his summers at Island Quest Day Camp. Read more: https://lnkd.in/dqYp-BT2

Tomorrow, we'll celebrate, but our hearts remain with the hostages still in Gaza — including eight Americans — who can't. #BringThemHomeNow.
