In May, we celebrated this year's Asian & Pacific Islander Heritage Month with an incredible focus on music! While many of us are familiar with legends like Nobuo Uematsu and Yo-Yo Ma, there are many other API musicians performing and creating a wide range of music today.    We were honored to host Hiroko Masuda, a traditional Koto player from Hokkaido, Japan. Hiroko studied Koto under the Seiha Hogaku School and received the Grand Master degree. In 1996, she moved to California and started studying under renowned Koto performer and teacher Hiromi Hashibe. Masuda has been a featured performer at the annual Phoenix Matsuri Festival and many other venues.    Hiroko has graced stages at the Phoenix Matsuri Festival and many other venues, but what made this event extra special was her connection to our world – she grew up playing video games and is a huge Nintendo fan! She was very excited to visit Treyarch and welcomed the opportunity to share her stories and the history of the beloved Koto. To help tell those stories, she enlisted the help of a close friend, June Chin, who took us on a centuries-old journey, telling the history of the Koto and the music that graced the studio that day.    Thank you to Hiroko for her amazing performance that was not just music but also a beautiful journey through the cultural history of the Koto. A big thank you to everyone who attended and made this celebration unforgettable! #APIHeritageMonth #Treyarch #MusicMatters #HirokoMasuda

The ABK API Network & Treyarch were thrilled to have Justin Chien from Netflix's The Brother's Sun for a very Special Teatime as part of our global network's celebration of API Heritage Month. During this insightful session, Justin shared his journey and experiences, touching on his breakthrough role as Charles Sun, the importance of representation in media, and his personal connection to his character. One of the highlights was Justin discussing how he related to his role, saying, “Being a good son is something that's important to me. So even though my life circumstances are very different from Charles's, it was my way into his character.” He also shared a lighter moment when asked about his go-to boba order, revealing, “Oh, probably be at Boba Guys, just a classic black milk tea. Whole milk or half-n-half, sugar, and light ice.” Justin's stories about his family and his dedication to his craft left a lasting impression on everyone. He emphasized the significance of hard work and staying true to oneself, particularly in a competitive industry. As Justin put it, “The most important thing is the work. It doesn't matter how many parties I go to or what kind of photos I take; the audition for me showing about delivering my product will always be what’s most important.” This engaging and inspiring conversation was led by Treyarch’s Nicole H.. Special thank you to our API network partners including Vivian E., Dino Verano, and Faustine Chow. We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Justin for visiting our studio and sharing his wisdom and experiences. We wish him all the best and look forward to his upcoming projects! #APIHeritageMonth #JustinChien #Treyarch #ABKAPINetwork

In March, we celebrated 𝐖𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧'𝐬 𝐇𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡, a time dedicated to recognizing the diverse experiences of women and honoring their enduring strength, wisdom, and beauty throughout personal and professional growth. As part of our commemoration, Treyarch and the Ladies Who Launch group had the privilege of hosting Ashley Maria, the creator of the impactful documentary film, Pioneers In Skirts, for a Fireside Chat. Pioneers In Skirts, narrated by Ashley Maria, is a thought-provoking 60-minute documentary that has been nominated for a regional Emmy Award. The film delves into the challenges that hinder ambitious women, shedding light on the stereotypes and sexism that can impede their progress, limit their potential, and force them to reconsider their aspirations. The conversation was led by Treyarch's Head Of Brand Development Carolyn Wang During the event, Ashley Maria shared insights into the film's themes and discussed the motivation behind its creation alongside her mother, the film's producer. The conversation was both empowering and enlightening, sparking a meaningful dialogue among attendees and prompting reflections on their individual roles in addressing gender-related challenges. In Ashley Maria's own words, "Treyarch has fostered an environment of welcomed & open discussion, and I'm honored our film Pioneers In Skirts could play a small part in that. I left the event saying to myself 'THIS is why we made Pioneers In Skirts!' The conversations we had afterwards are what keep us motivated on this journey to reaching gender equity. Thank you for having us!" It was truly inspiring to witness the impact of Pioneers In Skirts and to see firsthand the power of collective dialogue in driving positive change. Let's continue to champion inclusivity and empowerment in our workplaces and communities. #WomenEmpowerment #GenderEquality #PioneersInSkirts #Treyarch #LadiesWhoLaunch #WomensHistoryMonth Explore more at https://lnkd.in/g_YCZAcq

In closing out 𝐁𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐇𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡, Treyarch was honored to host award-winning Hollywood composer 𝐊𝐫𝐢𝐬 𝐁𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐬. Led by Treyarch Lead Artist Mike Chubb, the conversation delved into Kris’ career, starting from his first steps playing the piano at age 4 to his present passion for classical music, jazz, and film scores. Bowers has worked on documentaries and films such as Green Book, The Color Purple (2023), King Richard, Space Jam: A New Legacy, Netflix's Bridgerton, When They See Us, and the upcoming One Love: Bob Marley Story. His music accolades span various genres from jazz to hip-hop, including a significant contribution to Jay Z and Kanye West's album, Watch The Throne. Kris is also nominated for a 2024 Oscar for Best Documentary Short Film for his work as a Director and Composer for The Last Repair Shop.
