Delivering happiness to seriously ill children and their families

About us

Starlight Children's Foundation delivers happiness to seriously ill children and their families. Every 30 seconds, a child is diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition. These children are often scared, confused, lonely and facing serious medical treatments. That’s where Starlight comes in. Starlight programs turn a child’s pain, fear and stress into laughter, fun and joy by providing seriously ill children the best in entertainment, education and one-of-a-kind experiences – because sick kids are still kids. We believe all children deserve to enjoy the magic, wonder and happiness of childhood, and we’re committed to providing Starlight programs to every seriously ill child in our network of more than 800 children’s hospitals and community health partners across the US. Since 1983, Starlight has brought smiles to more than 16 million critically, chronically and terminally ill kids and their families.. • At Starlight we know that hospitalization can lead to feelings of stress and anxiety, and for kids like Henry, who has to frequent his local hospital, that anxiety is eased through play-powered programs like Starlight Gaming and Virtual Reality. https://lnkd.in/gWEagJss 🌟 Henry is a 9-yr-old who lives with epilepsy and often visits his hospital for treatments and neurology check-ins. Starlight programs have been a constant companion for him throughout his hospitalizations to reduce his pain, keep him motivated and calm, and make him feel less anxious – comforting him at every step of his hospital journey. For kids like Henry who live with chronic illnesses, Starlight programs are there to meet their unique needs, #deliveringhappiness by boosting their moods and emotional well-being. This #ChronicIllnessAwarenessMonth, help us transform hospitalization into a positive experience for more children like Henry. 🌟

  • Hospitalization can lead to many emotions, including fear and anxiety, especially for kids. Thanks to our friends at Disney, Pixar, and Tony Hale, the pediatric patients at Children's of Alabama received an #InsideOut2 Movie Party in a Box that helped them learn about their emotions and build joyful core memories. Learn more about our collaboration at https://lnkd.in/gGZpnvDs 🌟 💛 #HappinessDelivered

  • At Forest Home Clinic is Wisconsin, may kids seeking treatment can often feel scared and overwhelmed. In these crucial moments, Blanca, a bilingual licenses professional counselor uses Starlight Toy Deliveries to teach families that therapy can be healing, fun, and informative. https://lnkd.in/g_8B2P7D 🌟 “Playing helps build rapport, trust and comfort in an intimate setting when discussing mental health concerns" she told us. "It helps take away the pressure from needing to talk an entire session where we can both play and engage in conversation.” Help us ensure pediatric care providers like Blanca have the resources they need to create safe and healing environments for kids. #DeliveringHappiness 🌟

  • In collaboration with world jump rope champion Tori Boggs, pediatric patients at MemorialCare Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital Long Beach received Starlight Patient Activity Kits and spent some time with Tori and learned some of her coolest jump roping tricks! Kids need play, especially when hospitalized. They learn and heal through play, and when play is at the heart of a child's medical treatment, they have an outlet for processing and expressing emotions to help them heal faster. Thanks, Tori, for helping us #deliverhappiness to these patients! 🌟

  • We are thrilled to share our feature in the BBC Storyworks series, The Human Component, developed for the Consumer Technology Association. Check out the full episode below! When faced with a challenge, Seattle Children's patient, Aria, doesn't back down; she faces it head on and often, like in Mario Kart, she wins. https://lnkd.in/g9xnXrkg 🌟 At Starlight we know that when kids plays, it's more than a distraction – it’s a pathway to happiness and they feel better emotionally and mentally. For hospitalized kids, the importance of play can mean playing video games, which supports their pain management, enables positive distraction that boosts mood, and helps build trust with medical providers. That's why Starlight Gaming exists. Gaming can give pediatric patients an unexpected source of happiness, just like it did for Aria. Help us bring joy to kids like Aria nationwide. 🌟

  • Starlight is proud to partner with over 700 hospitals and medical facilities across the country. Once such facility is Camp Boggy Creek, a camp in southern Florida that provides a safe and medically-sound environment for seriously ill children. For their patients, Starlight Toy Deliveries offer emotional support, comfort, and joy when they need it the most. Happiness from a toy, book, game, art or craft can make a tremendous difference to a seriously ill child’s well-being. Starlight programs, like Starlight Toy Deliveries, encourage positive social connections that enable children to process their experiences and express their emotions through play. “Words can't express the joy that your generosity provides. We see each child light up when they receive their toy. Most importantly, the gratitude that these amazing children express is humbling to witness. You make a HUGE difference.” - Susan Lee, MEd, CCLS, Director of Outreach and Development at Camp Boggy Creek Learn more at https://lnkd.in/g8Z2Bszt 🌟

  • "The best thing, the most important title I have, the thing I treasure the most out of all things, is being a dad." - Chris, Finley's dad Twelve-year-old Finley's life started with hospitalization in the PICU and followed with years of so many surgeries that his dad, Chris, lost count. While therapy can be difficult for Finley, Chris says Starlight Virtual Reality has given him more drive to persevere, and it's given him and their family more hope: https://lnkd.in/gJDRm4uv 🌟 "To see him continue, it gives me hope. To see him push through, set his own goals, and meet them, the things we and most people take for granted, and to see him succeed gives me hope." This Father's Day, help us empower families like Chris and Finley's with Starlight programs to provide moments of comfort and joy. 🌟 #HappyFathersDay
