We know today that the climate crisis is urgent and progress is slow, and that the status quo will not keep 1.5°c within reach. How do we get back on track? 1️⃣ It is critical that we decarbonise our economies 2️⃣ In parallel, we must accelerate action on nature 3️⃣ But also deploy carbon dioxide removal technology at a massive scale We need to increase our capacity to remove and reduce emissions in tandem – and market-driven approaches play a critical role in this regard. There is no net zero without a high-integrity, functioning carbon market. Adopting globally recognised standards and regulatory frameworks can help ensure that every company can prepare for and, ultimately, thrive in a low-carbon future – and that every carbon credit reflects a verifiable reduction in greenhouse gases. Great news! The European Commission has just announced the Climate City Capital Hub, a groundbreaking initiative supporting the mission of the “100 Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities." The Climate City Capital Hub will provide wealth of resources and direct support for #MissionCities to navigate their unique climate funding challenges. — Access to financial advice and structuring — Expert advice and assistance to make climate projects 'investment ready' — Connections to public and private investors to turn plans into reality Services delivered by the Climate City Capital hub will cover both mitigation and adaptation efforts within the EU Mission on Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities and the EU Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change, ensuring a holistic approach to addressing climate change. This announcement was made during the 3rd Cities Mission Conference in Valencia, attended by South Pole's Mara Menz and Hans-Peter Egler. (DVNE) “Carbon Dioxide Removal: Europe and Germany's Role in Catalyzing a Trillion-Euro Industry” explores the transformative impact #CarbonRemoval could have on achieving climate goals while fostering economic growth. 🌿 Key Role in Climate Goals: Beyond inevitable reduction measures, CDR is an essential part of our ambition to keep the goal of the Paris Agreement within reach by neutralizing residual emissions from hard-to-abate sectors, and eventually historical emissions. 📈 Economic Boom: CDR's economic potential could reach €470-940B annually by 2050 – this is at par with today’s global airline industry. Europe's CDR industry could reach €220B per year by then, driven especially by technological advancements and economies of scale. 🤝 Job Potential: The European CDR industry could create up to 670K jobs. 🌍 Europe Paves the Way: With its tech expertise and climate policies, Europe is set to have a significant impact on this market. South Pole participated in the Coalition for Private Investment in Conservation (CPIC) semi-annual members meeting where Daniela Monteiro, Senior Specialist, Climate Investments, co-led an insightful breakout session with Conservation International. The focus of our session was on scaling business models, specifically examining the replication and expansion of successful conservation business models, such as the CPIC blueprints, previously developed by South Pole. To support market actors seeking to navigate an increasingly regulated global carbon market, Gold Standard has developed a Carbon Market Regulations Tracker with support from South Pole. The new repository will increase awareness of and visibility on regulations across continents for project developers, governments, and other market actors, which can enable compliance, inform decision-making, and allow the identification of trends and best practice.    Upon first release, the tracker covered 34 jurisdictions, including 41 international, national, and subnational regulations.
