🐾 Common Litter Box Issues Cat Owners Face 🐱 Cats are fastidious creatures and if their litter box is not up to snuff, they will find somewhere else to go and you may not like where they choose! Follow these basic litter box tips and your cat will thank you! 📌 1) Size Matters: Ensure your cat's comfort by providing a spacious litter box. Cats need room to move around and dig comfortably. For large cats, using a plastic storage tub may be the best option. (There are lots of instructions online for making your own with cutouts so your cat can get in easily.) 📌 2) Say No to Covers: Avoid covered litter boxes as they can trap odors, making your cat hesitant to use it. Opt for open designs for better ventilation. 📌 3) Location is Key: Place the litter box in a secluded, quiet area to give your cat privacy while they do their business. Cats prefer peaceful spots for their litter needs. But that doesn't mean you can hide it in the basement or closet. Make sure the litter box is easily accessible, yet still provides privacy. 📌 4) Go Unscented: Cats are sensitive to strong scents, so choose unscented litter to prevent any aversion to the box. Keep it simple and odor-free. 📌 5) Daily Scooping: Maintain hygiene by scooping waste at least once a day. Twice is even better. Regular cleaning reduces odor and keeps your cat happy using the box. Clean and disinfect the entire litter box once a week. 📌 6) Multiple Boxes: If you have multiple cats, ensure each has their own litter box plus an extra one. This prevents territorial issues and overcrowding. If you live in a multi-story house, add another box for each level. If you have 2 cats in a 2 story house, you'll need 3 boxes. And make sure at least one is on each level. 📌 7) Perfect Depth: The ideal litter depth is 2-3 inches. Too shallow, and it won't absorb well; too deep, it may discourage digging. Find the right balance for your feline friend! Taking these steps will create a purrfect environment for your feline friend and help avoid common litter box woes. 🐾✨
