Congratulations to our colleague Kellie Gerardi on her upcoming second #spaceflight. Kellie will be continuing her research in space with the International Institute for Astronautical Sciences (IIAS).
When my first spaceflight assignment with the International Institute for Astronautical Sciences (IIAS) was announced in 2021, I was careful not to use the phrase “once in a lifetime” to describe the opportunity. Partly a lifelong habit of refusing to bet against myself but mostly because this is precisely the future I envisioned when I first started out my career in the commercial spaceflight industry more than a decade ago: a new era of access to space where researchers could routinely, reliably, and repeatedly leverage a revolutionary platform like Virgin Galactic for space-based research. I’m beyond honored to lead the next IIAS mission, advance the scientific knowledge gained from our first spaceflight, and to introduce my fellow payload specialists: Dr. Shawna Pandya, MD of Canada (right) and Dr. Norah Patten of Ireland (left). I’m so excited to see IIAS deepen our partnership with Virgin Galactic (as well as our many global academic and government partners) to use space as a laboratory to benefit humanity. And finally, big thanks to my Palantir Technologies colleagues (the Batman career on Earth to the Bruce Wayne gigs in space) for dealing with me briefly leaving the planet every few years; but truly.. a quick space deployment is pretty on-brand for Mission Ops 😉✨💪

“We do not advocate a thin and shallow patriotism — a substitute for thought and genuine reflection about the merits of our nation as well as its flaws. We only want America’s technology industry to keep in mind an important question — which is not whether a new generation of autonomous weapons incorporating AI will be built. It is who will build them and for what purpose.” #Palantir CEO Alex Karp and Nicholas W. Zamiska discuss Silicon Valley, artificial intelligence, and the future of deterrence in a new essay in The Washington Post. Read more: https://lnkd.in/ef7iPckK
