One Idyllwild" Season 3, featuring our amazing Idyllwild Arts Academy alumni! 🌟 In this episode, President Pamela Jordan chats with Maya Osterman-Van Grack, IAA Dramatic Arts '05. After receiving a degree from the University of Colorado focusing on applied theater through the Interactive Theatre Project (a theater ensemble using Theatre of the Oppressed techniques to address social justice issues on campus), Maya became Assistant Director for the Interactive Theatre Project, learning the art form of facilitation. 🎭 Maya created the ACTivism Theatre Ensemble, a company of high school and college students performing educational outreach/prevention plays for the Sexual Assault Victim Advocacy Center throughout Colorado. She also created and toured the one-woman show "For Sale," addressing sex trafficking in America, and worked with survivors of sex trafficking and social workers on processing their trauma through theater. 🌍 In 2014, Maya founded Restorative Theater at the Dillon Youth Detention Center and joined Mirror Image Arts (MIA) in 2015. She is now the Executive Director of Programs at MIA, whose mission is to disrupt the school-to-prison pipeline and create collective liberation for all. 💪 Don't miss this inspiring conversation! 🎶📢 It's time for another Instagram takeover! Join us as Robert Nael (IAA Music '25) heads to Washington D.C. for the 75th Anniversary of NATO! ✨ Robert was selected for a spot in the NATO Symphony Orchestra under maestro Luke Frazier with the American Pops Orchestra. This competition usually invites only college students, but because of his exceptional talent, Robert (an Idyllwild Arts Academy high school student) was personally invited to audition and was then chosen to represent his home country of Estonia! 🇪🇪🌟 In addition to the orchestral training and performance, exclusive opportunities for NATO Syphony Orchestra participants include a tour of the Library of Congress, a meet-and greet with the Secretary of Arts and Culture, a VIP tour of the Kennedy Center, a tour of Smithsonian Instrument Collection, and a tour of the National Cathedral! Let's get to know our host a little better: 👋Robert Nael (he/him) is an 18-year-old bassoonist from Estonia, who has been studying with Grammy-nominated Idyllwild Arts Faculty Member Martin Kuuskmann since 2022. Robert’s performances captivate with the rich, warm sounds of his bassoon. Outside of music, he loves gym workouts, running, swimming, and cycling, all of which energize his artistry. Robert shares, "Idyllwild Arts is a wonderful place to refine your skills and let your creativity shine. 🎷✨ The 30th Anniversary Jazz In The Pines Festival is well underway, and what an unforgettable experience it has been so far! 🎶✨ We have been blown away by the many incredible performances and we're thrilled to share some unforgettable moments with you. John Daversa’s Big Band floored us with their Grammy-nominated "Kaleidoscope Eyes: Music of the Beatles," featuring a soulful performance from singer Maiya Sykes. Steve Proffitt moved us with his touching reading from Dr. Hawkins’ memoirs, followed by a captivating interview exploring Dr. Hawkins' life. Marisa is the first professional dancer to be named to People Magazine's “Women Changing the World.” She is a leading authority on disability inclusion and building a culture of belonging, having been named a LinkedIn Top Voice and featured on Good Morning America, NBC Today, and other major media outlets. Her work has amassed over 100 million views across social media. ✨As a sought-after international speaker and performing artist, Marisa has shared the stage with Tim Cook at Apple HQ’s Steve Jobs Theater. She has collaborated with global brands such as Google, Microsoft, Apple, Meta, Red Bull, adidas, and PayPal. A stroke survivor and late-diagnosed Autistic, Marisa is also a proud fourth-generation Japanese American. Summer session is in full swing at Idyllwild Arts, and our popular H.O.T. Clay and Ceramics adult program truly brought the heat! 🔥From hand-building soft clay to wheel throwing, our students had an array of opportunities to expand their skills through the therapeutic power of pottery! 🧘♀️✨ Idyllwild Arts has a long history of offering outstanding ceramics programs, with renowned faculty like Sam Lopez, Russell Brian Wrankle, Lynne Hobaica, Amy Santoferraro, Sanam Emami, Justin D'Onofrio, Leah Leitson, Susan Filley and many more. 🌟 These hands-on workshops offer open studios, faculty presentations, critiques and feedback, and an exhibit of faculty work with artist receptions. One Idyllwild." season 3, which exclusively features our amazing Idyllwild Arts Academy alumni! 🌍🎧 In this episode, Idyllwild Arts President Pamela Jordan chats with Audrey Carver, IAA Visual Arts '17. Audrey is a multidisciplinary artist originally from Idyllwild, CA. She graduated summa cum laude from Tufts University in 2022 with a self-designed major in Scientific Communication. 🎓✨ Audrey has showcased her work in both solo and group exhibitions in Cuenca (kwen-ca), Ecuador, Palm Springs, Idyllwild, San Diego, and Boston. 🖼️🌎 She has served as an artist-in-residence and science communication fellow at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UCSD, the Climate Science Alliance, Cabrillo National Monument, and the Tijuana River National Estuarine (es-tura-rin) Reserve. 🌊🌿 She was awarded Artist Enterprise Laboratory Grants from Idyllwild Arts Academy in 2015, 2016, and 2017 for public works. 🏆🎨 Audrey was a speaker at the 2020 San Diego Climate Summit, where she emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary science communication, and she was the curator for the 2023 San Diego Climate Summit art show hosted by the San Diego Natural History Museum. 🗣️🖌️ Don't miss out!
