Where arts, education, and community come together. Donde las artes, la educación y la comunidad se unen.

About us

HSTF’s mission is to amplify the power, creativity, and voices of youth, connecting them to Afro-Latin culture and heritage so they can create a diverse, vibrant Latin Quarter and build a just, equitable Boston. We believe that communities are stronger when they create the conditions youth need to thrive. By harnessing the power, creativity, and voices of youth, we not only help them navigate the journey of adolescence but help youth become leading voices of change in their community. HSTF was founded in 1991, when a coalition of neighbors and community leaders felt a sense of urgency to address the growing violence, economic, and social challenges facing the Hyde/Jackson Square neighborhood of Jamaica Plain. Now known as Boston’s Latin Quarter, our community has transformed into a vibrant neighborhood. Despite the progress, like in other urban neighborhoods, our youth continue to struggle with high levels of poverty, community violence, and low educational attainment. Annually, HSTF engages more than 700 children, youth, and college students through Jóvenes en Acción, College Success, and community-based and in-school arts education. Our artistic performances, cultural events, and community organizing efforts reach over 4,000 community members each year. • Jóvenes en Acción: Provides integrated in-depth after-school and summer programming to youth in grades 8-12 in three areas: Afro-Latin Arts, Education and Career Pathways (includes pre-vocational services and mentoring), and Civic Engagement and Youth Organizing. Targeted social-emotional support is also available. • College Success: Provides pre-college support to Jóvenes youth, a Spring and Summer Academy for rising first-year college students, and ongoing coaching to college students. •Creative Development and Community Engagement: Strengthens our neighborhood through creative placemaking/keeping, advocacy and organizing, development of the Latin Quarter, and community-based Afro-Latin arts education.

Today the Carnegie Corporation of New York announced that the Latine College & Career Access (LaCCA) Network has been named as one of 10 winners of the Corporation’s new initiative, Profiles in Collective Leadership, focused on funding nonpartisan collaborations serving as educational and economic bridges in communities across the country. As the only recipient of this $200,000 grant in Massachusetts, this recognition is a testament to the effectiveness of LaCCA's model and its potential to make a significant impact on the lives of Latine and BIPOC youth in Boston. When we founded the LaCCA Network alongside our partners from Greater Boston Latino Network —Boston Higher Education Resource Center, East Boston Community Council, IBA - Inquilinos Boricuas en Acción and Sociedadlatina —we wanted to empower Latine and BIPOC youth in Boston by providing them with the resources and opportunities they need to succeed in education and their careers. Today, LaCCA serves approximately 250 students between the ages of 14 and 21 every year with 100 percent of participating youth achieving on-time grade promotion and being on track for high school graduation. Celina Miranda, our Executive Director, shared, "The LaCCA Network is honored to be among this distinguished group of winners working to advance the educational outcomes of students across so many communities, and we look forward to our partnership with the Corporation and collaboratives across the country."
