We're incredibly proud of Ryan DuChanois and Yang Xia of our Houston member Solidec and Ian Goodine and Ethan Walko of our Boston member rStream for being selected for Activate's 2024 cohort! The two-year Activate Fellowship supports scientist-entrepreneurs as they transform their breakthroughs into high-impact climatetech startups. The 62 fellows in this cohort were selected from a pool of more than 1,000 applicants. Ryan DuChanois (CEO) and Yang Xia (CTO) co-founded Solidec in 2023, developing technology that extracts molecular building blocks from water and air, then upgrades them into pure chemicals and fuels without carbon emissions. Solidec won the 2024 TEX-E Prize just after joining the Greentown Houston community in February. They are part of Activate's Houston's first-ever cohort! Ian Goodine (CEO) and Ethan Walko (CTO) co-founded rStream in 2020 while completing their master’s degrees at UMass Amherst. Using robotics and AI, rStream sorts waste from a single input into recycling, compost, and trash containers with 90 percent accuracy. rStream has been developing its tech in Greentown Boston's prototyping lab since 2022, growing its lab footprint and team while collecting awards and launching pilots. Join us in congratulating these four innovators on this prestigious accomplishment—we look forward to seeing their progress throughout the program! https://lnkd.in/eyQeYRz5

Incredibly proud that our alum Sense is partnering with New England's foremost electric, water, and gas utility Eversource Energy to empower its 4M+ customers to optimize their homes' energy usage. Sense's home energy monitor uses machine learning and electrical signals to pull real-time data from homes' energy systems, offering insights into which appliances are using the most energy and when—enabling homeowners to optimize their usage according to when rates are lower and the grid has more capacity. ⚡ This is a fantastic example of how corporates like Eversource can utilize novel technologies like Sense's for a win-win result: improving resiliency and lowering emissions throughout the power grid while simultaneously saving consumers money. The support systems for climatetech throughout Massachusetts lend themselves to first-of-a-kind ecosystem that encourages these bold partnerships for #climateaction—and we're honored to support the startups that are at the center of it! Congratulations to Mike Phillips on this great collaboration and thanks for the shoutout in Newsweek! 🏡 https://lnkd.in/dEwhQWbC

It was wonderful to convene at the Massachusetts State House this morning to celebrate the many Greentowners who were named to TIME's 2024 list of Top Greentech Companies including Blackburn Energy, Inc., Clean Crop Technologies, Inc., Eden, Form Energy, LineVision, Nth Cycle, SparkCharge, Sublime Systems, Singularity Energy, and Malta Inc, with Governor Maura Healey, Lt. Gov. Kim Driscoll, Sec. Yvonne Hao, Sec. Rebecca L Tepper, Undersecretary Ashley Stolba, and MassCEC CEO Emily Reichert! Thank you all of the champions in the MA Administration and legislature whose support for climatetech innovation enables these startups to start, grow, and stay in MA. The MA representation on the list is proof that the Commonwealth is a leading #climatetech hub and can continue to drive progress and innovation across the industry for many years to come. Big thanks also to the Massachusetts Competitive Partnership for hosting a fantastic panel discussion with some of MA's successful climatetech startup leaders, including our alumni Hudson Gilmer of LineVision, Joshua Aviv of SparkCharge, and Shreya Dave of Via Separations, who shared insights about the key support mechanisms that enabled their development and growth in the state. It's been a privilege and a pleasure to have their teams within the Greentown community over the years and we're enormously proud of all they've achieved!

Our team was thrilled to attend the ribbon-cutting for our member Nth Cycle's new headquarters in #BurlingtonMA! Nth Cycle's progress has been astonishing ever since the startup joined our community at Greentown Boston in 2021, when it was developing its critical-mineral-recycling technology. Its patented modular refining system, The Oyster, extracts high-purity, production-grade critical metals from from industrial scrap, low-grade ore, and refining waste, using just electricity and water as opposed to hydrometallurgy or pyrometallurgy. This clean and less energy-intensive electro-extraction method enables circularity for the critical minerals and metals that are rising in demand for the energy transition and widespread electrification. Earlier this year, the company announced a $7.2M tax credit allocation from the #IRA's Advanced Energy Project Tax Credit (48C) program administered by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to help establish the nation's first large-scale production of Mixed Hydroxide Precipitate (MHP) at the company's facility in Fairfield, Ohio. Nth Cycle's MHP "yields unprecedented purity of nickel and cobalt hydroxide while helping battery companies comply with the Inflation Reduction Act's domestic materials requirement for EVs." Sending a huge congratulations to Megan O'Connor and the entire Nth Cycle team for opening the new headquarters and lab space in Burlington—we can't wait to see what you accomplish in this next stage of growth! 👏
