National PTSD Awareness Month, an observance that raises public awareness about issues related to PTSD, reduces the stigma associated with PTSD, and helps ensure that those suffering receive proper treatment. Research clearly indicates that there is a connection between trauma and addiction, so this initiative is especially important to us at Encore, where we specialize in outpatient treatment for co-occurring mental health issues like PTSD. Thanks to the internet era, sports gambling is now more mainstream than ever - and experts are sounding the alarm. “The circumstances reported are also getting more severe, according to the directors of five problem gambling centers, a gambling researcher and an addiction counselor. People are filing for bankruptcy or losing homes or relationships. At the same time, callers are skewing younger, the experts said — often men in their 20s and 30s.” And while some betting platforms have implemented safeguards that track risky behaviors, such as pausing or closing accounts with excessive activity, online gambling still has very much of a Wild West feel, fueled by slick advertising and increasing accessibility. A House bill was introduced in January that would set aside 50% of revenue from a federal tax on sports wagers for gambling addiction treatment and research - do you think this will help?
