It’s a fact: Most skin cancers are caused by too much exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light. If your employees work outside, it’s important to keep them protected from the sun. The CDC offers these tips for employers: 🔆 Encourage sun safety among your employees and provide sun protection when possible. 🔆Use tents, shelters, and cooling stations to provide shade at worksites. 🔆Schedule breaks in the shade and allow workers to reapply sunscreen throughout their shifts. 🔆Create work schedules that minimize sun exposure. For example, schedule outdoor tasks like mowing for early morning instead of noon, and rotate workers to reduce their UV exposure. 🔆Include sun-safety information in workplace wellness programs. 🔆Teach outdoor workers about the risks of exposure to UV rays and the symptoms of overexposure. #SunProtection #WorkerSafety

Did you know a worker does not have to fall from heights to suffer a fatal or life-changing injury? Falls on the same level can happen in any industry and can easily result in serious injury. The good news is that slips, trips, and falls are 100% preventable! Follow these tips: ➡ Make housekeeping a top priority. Keep all walking and working surfaces dry at all times. ➡Take action when you encounter a spill or wet surface--your quick action could prevent someone else’s injury. ➡Ensure spill cleanup materials are readily available – mop, mop bucket, wet floor sign, etc. ➡Use a barrier to quarantine bathrooms and other rooms that have been recently mopped until the floor is completely dry. ➡Place soak mats at building entrances on rainy days and place spill mats near sinks in bathrooms, kitchens, and janitorial closets. ➡Require employees to wear slip-resistant shoes if working in environments where walking surfaces could be wet. ➡No need to feel embarrassed if you do fall on a wet surface – report the incident to a supervisor immediately. #PreventSlipsAndFalls #KeepWorkersSafe

Same-level slips and falls accounted for 275,660 workplace injuries in 2022 (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics), and they can happen anywhere at any time. Slip-resistant shoes are one of the best tools to help prevent slips and falls on wet surfaces. What to know about slip-resistant shoes: ➡ Require all employees to wear slip-resistant shoes if they have potential to encounter wet or oily walking surfaces. ➡Make sure the selected shoe has been tested for effective slip-resistance. The label should read “ASTM F3445-21 SR.” ➡Select the type of shoe that best fits the job task and working conditions. ➡Give employees several options to pick from; what is comfortable for one employee may not be comfortable for another. ➡No shoes are slip-proof. Slip-resistant shoes should be worn as part of an overall slip and fall protection program. #PreventSlipsAndFalls #WorkerSafety
