Two years after ending its two-year run on Peacock — and subsequently being rescued by Netflix — Meredith Scardino’s musical comedy “Girls5Eva” is ready for its new streaming home. Seasons 1 and 2 are set to move from Peacock to Netflix in March, and they’ll be accompanied by the all-new Season 3, which dropped its first trailer on Thursday.

Hailing from executive producers Tina Fey and Robert Carlock, “Girls5Eva” follows an eponymous singing group that achieved pop superstardom in the 1990s before engaging in a struggle-filled reunion in the present day. Led by a cast that includes music and Broadway veterans Sara Bareilles and Renée Elise Goldsberry, the show earned a passionate fanbase for its irreverent humor and catchy songs. What it didn’t earn on Peacock, was much of an audience.

“Peacock has had a rough time with their original content. Outside of their nostalgic reboot of ‘Saved By the Bell,’ the rest of Peacock’s original slate has failed to entice audiences — but that should change with the premiere of ‘Girls5Eva,'” Kristen Lopez wrote in her IndieWire review of Season 1. “Though peddling in a similar sense of nostalgia — our collective love of girl groups and ’90s/early ’00s music — what creator Meredith Scardino does is tell a hilarious, boppy story of growing up but still desiring the comfort of the past.”

“Our deepest thanks to Peacock for bringing ‘Girls5eva’ to life and supporting us creatively at every turn since the first pitch. And we are endlessly grateful to our partners at NBCU for their boundless commitment,” executive producers Scardino, Fey, Carlock, and Jeff Richmond said in a statement when the move to Netflix was announced in 2022. “Today, we are thrilled to announce that our reunited girl group will be re-reunited at Netflix. We are so thankful to everyone at the streamer who fell in love with our music-filled comedy. We cannot wait to introduce Dawn, Wickie, Summer, and Gloria to the global Netflix audience. Well, not fully introduce, if you look closely, ‘Girls5eva’ can be seen in the background of the Woodstock ’99 documentary setting a porta potty on fire.”

“Girls5Eva” Season 3 premieres March 14 on Netflix, when Seasons 1 and 2 will also join the streaming library. Watch the trailer below.
