DC Studios chairman and CEO James Gunn (who was hired after the film's production) stated that while the film is set in the DC Extended Universe, it is ultimately "disconnected" from the universe. Furthermore, he intended to incorporate Blue Beetle into his upcoming rebooted DC Universe, with Xolo Maridueña reprising his role.
