Warcraft, the 2016 film adaptation of Blizzard Entertainment’s popular video game franchise, has found renewed interest as it climbs the Netflix charts in the United States. This resurgence comes amidst swirling rumors about a potential sequel, Warcraft 2, possibly heading to the streaming giant.
The original Warcraft film, directed by Duncan Jones, stands as the third highest-grossing video game movie adaptation of all time. Despite mixed critical reception, with a 28% score on Rotten Tomatoes, the film garnered a dedicated fanbase and achieved significant commercial success, grossing over $439 million globally.
Recent fan-made trailers have fueled speculation about a Warcraft sequel. Two trailers, “Warcraft 2: The Lich King” and “Warcraft 2: The Final Chapter,” created by Foxstar Media in September 2023 and June 2024 respectively, have sparked excitement among fans. These high-quality productions blend footage from the original movie with cinematic elements from the World of Warcraft game, presenting a tantalizing vision of what a sequel could look like.

Netflix’s “Trigger Warning” is the kind of sturdy thriller that recalls movies from “First Blood” and “Commando” to the early John Cena vehicle “The Marine” and the 2004 remake of “Walking Tall”: a military veteran returns home, looking for peace, only to face violent antagonists who force him back into action.
The difference is that in “Trigger Warning,” the veteran is a woman (Jessica Alba), and the voice behind the camera is female also, as Indonesian director Mouly Surya makes her English-language debut. It’s not just Surya’s first American project after a series of acclaimed films in her home country but also her first action movie. As she told IndieWire, Surya was determined to deliver the traditional satisfactions of the genre while also exploring what it meant to have a woman in a role typically occupied by actors like Stallone, Schwarzenegger, and The Rock.

A Family Affair, a romcom starring Nicole Kidman, Joey King and Zac Efron, was the most-watched movie of the week on Netflix, beating debuts such as Jessica Alba’s Trigger Warning and Glen Powell’s Hit Man.
The film, which was directed by Richard Lagravenese, scored 26.8M views since its launch on June 28.
This put it above Trigger Warning’s debut of 25.7M views and Hit Man’s 10.8M views but it couldn’t match Jennifer Lopez’s Atlas, which opened with 28.2M views.
Trigger Warning grew, however, coming in second place with 26.3M views in its second week.
The big news in Netflix’s charts this week was Bridgerton, which saw its third season enter the streamer’s most popular TV list at number ten with 91.9M views to date.

[Warning: The above and below contains spoilers for Trigger Warning.] Trigger Warning follows Special Forces officer Parker as she moves back home to New Mexico after her grandfather’s death and uncovers a nefarious criminal underground. Anthony Michael Hall co-stars as Senator Ezekiel Swann, the patriarch of a dangerous family. “It was sort of a supergroup of great women in charge on this,” says Hall of working on the Netflix film, from producer Alba and director Mouly Surya (in her English-language debut film) to cinematographer Zoë White. “It was really great to work with a bunch of really strong, on-top-of-it, professional ladies that really know their stuff.” Hall compares Trigger Warning to an old western. His character, a corrupt, racist, sexist politician, is a twist on the classic western villain. In one scene, Ezekiel and Parker have a conversation that seems friendly on the service, but Ezekiel clearly holds unsavory beliefs. Says Hall about watching ...

Though they’ve worked together only once (the animated “Happy Feet”), Australian director George Miller and recent AFI Life Achievement Award winner Nicole Kidman share a distinction this week. Both of their most recent films lead on respective home viewing charts.
For Warner Bros. and Miller, the #1 status for the newly released “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” is positive news after its very disappointing theatrical results. But even more than a normal high-return PVOD release, it is available for a $24.99 digital purchase price rather than the standard initial $19.99 rental.
Kidman has provided an eclectic filmography that spans from Jane Campion and Lars von Trier to “Batman Forever” and “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.” Her latest, rom-com “A Family Affair” where she credibly plays at the age of 57 the love interest for Zac Efron, testifies to a star quality along with enduring talent. With 1 billion minutes watched, “Bridgerton” Season 3 was the most-watched streaming original of the week of June 21-27, which marked the final four episodes’ second full week of availability. The achievement was unsurprising, as the Shonda Rhimes-produced Netflix drama has been dominating Luminate’s charts (as well as Nielsen’s and Netflix’s own) since the first four episodes of Season 3 were released in May. Once again, both previous seasons continued to chart, with Season 2 in eighth place and Season 1 at the bottom.
Making a strong debut on the chart was “America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders,” a Netflix docuseries that was watched for 687 million minutes in its first full week of availability. It was followed by another docuseries, “Perfect Wife: The Mysterious Disappearance of Sherri Papini,” which his 509 million minutes watched in the same amount of time.

My guest on 20 Questions this week is Anthony Michael Hall.
In his latest film, Trigger Warning, which is streaming on Netflix, Hall stars as a gang-boss villain opposite Jessica Alba’s Special Forces commander character as she sets out to investigate her father’s untimely death.
Hall shot to fame in the 1980s as a part of the fabled “Brat Pack,” starring in such films as National Lampoon’s Vacation, Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club and Weird Science when he was only a teenager. When the term “Brat Pack” appeared in a 1985 New York magazine story by journalist David Blum, with Emilio Estevez, Rob Lowe and Judd Nelson on the issue’s cover, Hall fell under that label’s umbrella with a group that included Andrew McCarthy, Molly Ringwald, Demi Moore and Ally Sheedy.

Several years ago, Netflix shook things up by not only including top ten charts on its platform for viewers to see, but the streaming giant also made a whole website dedicated to sharing viewership metrics. It has provided an odd window into what people are watching on the world's largest streaming service at any given time. At the moment, a whole bunch of people are watching a new action flick called "Trigger Warning," which stars Jessica Alba as an ass-kicking Special Forces soldier/bar owner.
As of this writing, director Mouly Surya's film is sitting firmly in the number one spot on the Netflix movie charts ahead of the DreamWorks animated flick "Home" and Universal's "Fifty Shades of Grey." The latter film's star, Dakota Johnson, has been having quite the run on Netflix, as Marvel's "Madame Web" recently dominated the charts as well -- but that's another story altogether.

Jessica Alba reigned over Netflix last week with her latest film Trigger Warning, which debuted with 25.7M views, making it the streamer’s most-watched title of the week and No. 1 for English-language films.
In second place among English-language films was the animated fare Ultraman: Rising with 7.9M views. Meanwhile, Richard Linklater’s Hit Man remains Top 10 material, this week coming in sixth place with 4.4M views.
On the TV front, Bridgerton is still dominating. In the first full week since Season 3, Part 2 hit Netflix, the third installment collectively gathered another 16.5M views. It’s not entirely surprising to see the viewership for the second half of Season 3 dip versus the first half, though it does indicate the show might have lost some of its audience in the month-long wait for the final four episodes.
However, audiences are still gravitating toward the entire Bridgerton-verse still. Season 1 of the Regency-era series came in at No.

It's been a while since we've seen Jessica Alba leading a film - in 2018, she pivoted to focus on her billion-dollar sustainable brand The Honest Company, which she stepped down from as chief creative officer in April. But in her latest movie, "Trigger Warning," Alba not only returns to the screen; she also makes a rare appearance as a Latina lead of an action flick.
In the movie, which was released on Netflix on June 21, Alba plays Parker, a US special forces commando stationed overseas who takes a trip back to her hometown after learning her father has died (which she later discovers was caused by a murder). The "Dark Angel" and "Sin City" actress, who also worked as the film's executive producer, says she made sure every detail behind her Mexican-American character was as authentic as possible.
It's no secret that Latines are major moviegoers and yet remain underrepresented on-screen.

The Jessica Alba film “Trigger Warning” was the most-watched title on Netflix for the week of June 17-23, hitting 25.7 million views in its first three days of availability.
It was the only title that was able to rival “Bridgerton” Season 3, which was No. 1 on the TV chart with 16.5 million views in the first full week of availability of the final four episodes. That brings the season to a total of 85.2 million views since its release, making it almost certain to make Netflix’s list of its most-popular English-language TV shows by next week. “Baby Reindeer” is currently at the bottom of the list with 86.9 million views, and will continue to accrue views until July 11, 91 days after its release. “Bridgerton,” however, will keep accruing until much later.
All previous seasons of “Bridgerton” continued to chart: Season 1 took third place with 3.5 million minutes watched and Season 2 landed at No. 5 with 3 million views,...

Zack Snyder can now take a long breath as his Rebel Moon movies aren’t the most recent disappointment to arrive on Netflix. Keeping up with its weekly release schedule, the streaming giant welcomed another highly anticipated movie to its collection, yet it was very quick to prove itself a total fiasco.
Still, critical acclaim seemingly has no real meaning for Netflix viewers who are currently enjoying a brand new action thriller, Trigger Warning, that is holding a number one position on Netflix’s global top 10, according to the most recent data from FlixPatrol.

John Krasinski’s “If” (Paramount) needs strong post-theatrical results to make it a success. Initial results from PVOD ($19.99 rental), which reached #1 right away at both iTunes and Fandango, suggest it is headed in the right direction.
In the short term, it might be able to sustain that pace; its main competition will be this week’s release of the underperforming “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.” More critical is whether it can sustain multiple weeks at higher levels. With a $110 million before-marketing cost, $180 million in worldwide gross needs supplementing.
Richard Linklater’s “Hit Man” is sustaining its run. Netflix’s $20 million worldwide acquisition, after an above-average 10 days as #1 on its top 10 movie viewing chart, is still at #2. “Trigger Warning,” a far less-acclaimed Netflix original, is currently #1. The action/thriller title, which stars Jessica Alba and is the American debut for Indonesian director Mouly Surya, was filmed nearly three years ago.

To celebrate the release of Trigger Warning, which is now streaming on Netflix, we sat down with star Anthony Michael Hall to find out more.
Chatting to Anthony, we discuss the lore of the script and why it was a different role for him, working with Jessica Alba and her full-guns blazing role, what attracts him to his roles and his continued love of acting, and why playing the bad guy is sometimes the better role to play.
We also have some time reminiscing about his legendary roles in Weird Science, The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles and National Lampoon’s Vacation, as well as his later work on The Dark Knight with Christopher Nolan – including a very funny story about working with the late Heath Ledger – and why he’d dive at an appearance in the long-mooted Community movie.

Jessica Alba didn't want her character to use a gun in 'Trigger Warning'.The 43-year-old actress plays Special Forces commando Parker in the Netflix action film and explained that she and director Mouly Surya made the decision to have her character use a knife in combat scenes instead. In an interview with Collider, Jessica said: "That was a choice. 100 per cent. Both of us did. We feel like this genre is dominated these days by a lot of gun killing and gun fights and all of that. "It kind of goes with the genre in a lot of ways, and 'John Wick' wins that narrative, and so we were like, 'What is right for us? What would feel satisfying and cool to watch also?'"Also, if Parker does need to take out an opponent, these are passionate kills, these are not nameless and faceless. These are people...

For a good part of the last decade, actor Jessica Alba has tried to mold herself as an action star, to varying results. Her latest attempt, in Indonesian director Mouly Surya’s Hollywood debut, Trigger Warning, streaming on Netflix, seems to be a step in the right direction. Clearly inspired by action classics like Rambo and Machete, Trigger Warning is a one-woman army show, with Jessica Alba carrying the movie from the very first scene to the last. However, well-crafted action set pieces against the scenic backdrop of western America cannot hide the glaringly bland plotline, poorly written side characters, and very generic treatment of the movie as a whole. Jessica Alba’s return to mainstream action would have benefited from a more violent treatment of the narrative, which is teased throughout the movie, only to turn out disappointingly tame in the end. Another aspect that will feel a bit...

Ok, we’re going to keep it 100 with you: No credible movie awards contenders are being released on streaming or VOD this week. It happens sometimes. We’re between awards seasons, and Netflix’s movie of the week is lowbrow even by Netflix action movie standards. So our top pick for an awards contender to watch this week is HBO’s “Slave Play. Not a Movie. A Play.” Not because it’s a likely contender for the Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Special Emmy — it’s too abstract for that — but because it’s about a former Tony contender.

After five long years, Jessica Alba makes her triumphant feature film return with Netflix’s Trigger Warning. This is her first role since the ill-advised Killers Anonymous and her first onscreen role since the Bad Boys television spin-off, L.A.’s Finest (which was under the Spectrum Original banner, believe it or not). Yes, a lot has happened during the time Alba entertained the masses.
Yet, why does her triumphant return have to be Trigger Warning instead of Honey 2? Besides being in development hell for four years, this film is straight ripped from the genre that gives stars comebacks nowadays. It used to be horror, and now, the revenge thriller has been all the rage as of late.
The question is, will Alba’s film be the good (Reacher), the bad (think any Liam Neeson film from the past decade or two), or the ugly (Peppermint)?

Netflix’s new action thriller film Trigger Warning brings Jessica Alba back into the limelight as she plays the tough protagonist fighting her way through the corrupt secrets of her quaint hometown. The plot follows Parker, an experienced US Army Special Forces officer, who returns to her small hometown of Creation following the sudden death of her beloved father. But her return uncovers a grand-scale conspiracy that threatens US internal security and also poses an active danger to the protagonist. First things first: Trigger Warning is a title that makes zero sense. That phrase could imply multiple meanings: a warning for potentially distressing viewing, or perhaps, more literally, an allusion to a gun trigger. Neither really relate in any meaningful way to this particular film. Instead, this is a kind of Road House meets Rambo wannabe, an action-thriller-Western that sadly never escapes the deep, forever-abiding sense that what you’re watching is largely mediocre and always derivative.
We open with a car chase through a desert in Syria, as terrorists chase down an American relief truck. Immediately you know that this is perhaps not the kind of film to trade in geopolitical sensitivities.

Mouly Surya’s Trigger Warning is centered around an American county named Creation, which is essentially run by the Swann family. Ezekiel Swann is the state senator. His son, Jesse Swann, is the county sheriff. And his other son, Elvis Swann, is a smuggler who is dealing with domestic terrorists to fund Ezekiel’s re-election campaign. While returning from a military operation in Syria, our protagonist, Parker, learns that her father, Harry, has mysteriously died in the mines near his bar (which is named Maria’s). Harry’s deteriorating mental state and the explosives at his disposal are blamed for his demise. Jesse even speculates that Harry killed himself because he couldn’t deal with the sadness of not having his daughter around. But as Parker starts to dig into the matter, she finds out that her father’s death, the mines, the Swanns, and the domestic terrorists are all linked to one another.

We're now just over a year from Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four arriving in theaters and excitement is rapidly building to see Marvel's First Family back on the big screen.
The last time they assembled was in 2015's disastrous reboot; what was meant to be an Ultimate Universe-inspired body-horror take on the heroes ended up falling apart due to studio interference, derailing up-and-coming filmmaker Josh Trank's career in the process.
Before that, we got Fantastic Four in 2005 and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer two years later in 2007. The movies were very much a product of their time but still have their fair share of fans.
Jessica Alba played Sue Storm, a.k.a. the Invisible Woman, in those and looked back fondly at the role in a recent interview with ComicBook.com.
"It's nothing but fond memories," she told the site. "I loved it so much playing that character.
