Emma Watson is one of the most widely known celebrities now, and a majority of this credit goes to the breathtaking work she did in the Harry Potter franchise for over a decade. If anything, that one particular film series gave her such immaculate success that even after 13+ years since she last embodied Hermoine Granger, fans can’t associate anyone better with the character than her.

But while this one role cemented her career and position in Hollywood, the currently-$85-million-worth Watson wasn’t okay with transforming into a multi-millionaire at such a young age. As she confessed herself, the life-changing money she received from the Harry Potter saga was so much that she couldn’t grasp even the idea of being so rich and the owner of such a fortune!

Jennifer Lawrence is pretty much one of the most tremendous leading actresses in all of Hollywood, leaving everyone baffled by not only her excellent onscreen performances but also her offscreen quirky antics. Throughout her 17-year-long career, she has effortlessly made her way to the top through the same and even holds three Academy Award nominations and one win.

Moreover, she is continuing to go strong and seems to be on the way to finally matching the same record that stands as her rival turned best friend Emma Watson’s biggest achievement as an actress: Having worked with two of the greatest production companies of all time, A24 and Apple Original Film. This is because her next project is being produced by the same companies!

The Eternal City’s glitterati celebrated Sofia Coppola on Wednesday at an American Academy in Rome gala in the 17th century Villa Aurelia on Janiculum Hill.
The Oscar-winning director of “Lost in Translation,” “Marie Antoinette,” “Bling Ring” and, most recently, “Priscilla” was honored with a McKim Medal that “marks the profound relationship between Italy and the United States and recognizes the works of individuals who have contributed to the intense artistic and humanistic dialogue between the two nations,” as a statement put it.
Coppola’s ties to Rome comprise directing a 2016 production of Giuseppe Verdi’s La Traviata at the Italian capital’s Teatro dell’Opera featuring costumes by Valentino and the fact that “Priscilla” — which got a seven-minute standing ovation at its 2023 Venice Film Festival premiere — is produced by Rome-based producer Lorenzo Mieli.

Fred Roos, the casting director turned producer who jump-started the career of Jack Nicholson and collaborated often with Francis Ford Coppola, sharing a best picture Oscar with the filmmaker for The Godfather Part II, has died. He was 89.
Roos died Saturday at his home in Beverly Hills, a publicist announced.
It’s part of Hollywood lore that before Harrison Ford became a famous actor, he was laboring as a carpenter to make ends meet. What some might not know is that it was at Roos’ house where Ford was woodworking when the casting director befriended him, eventually pushing him for roles in George Lucas’ American Graffiti (1973) and Star Wars (1977) and Coppola’s The Conversation (1974).
And it was Roos who convinced Lucas — who had been leaning toward Amy Irving — that Carrie Fisher should portray Princess Leia in Star Wars. (Roos did not have an official role on that film.)

Fred Roos, the Oscar-winning The Godfather Part II producer and longtime executive producer for Francis Ford Coppola and Sofia Coppola, died Saturday in Beverly Hills at 89, four days shy of his 90th birthday.
The news about Roos, who won his Godfather Part II Oscar and later was nominated for Coppola’s Apocalypse Now, comes as Francis Ford Coppola is here at the Cannes Film Festival, 45 years after winning the Palme d’Or for Apocalypse Now. Religion, Karl Marx said, is the opiate of the masses. Today, he would likely say that the opiate of the masses is fame — the desire for it, the things you have to do to get it, the fragmentary nature of it, and everything it’s supposed to bring you. The new fame, the lusty fickle kind bred by social media, is at the center of “Wild Diamond,” a startlingly bold and true French drama that premiered today at Cannes.
It tells the story of Liane (Malou Khebizi), a 19-year-old glam trainwreck who lives with her mother and kid sister in the town of Fréjus in Southern France. Liane’s entire existence is driven by her compulsion to connect with the up-from-nowhere apparatus of fame, the kind that transforms people on Instagram and TikTok — and, the subject of “Wild Diamond,” reality TV — into overnight spangly vessels of adoration.

It’s been a hot minute since everybody’s childhood crush, Emma Watson, who played Hermione Granger in the cult classic Harry Potter franchise, graced the silver screen. The actress was last seen in Greta Gerwig’s Little Women way back in 2019 as Meg March. The long hiatus has left Potterheads wondering if she has cast an “Evanesco” and given up the profession they watched her grow up in. Apart from the beloved Harry Potter franchise she’s most well-known for, we even saw her in fun projects like The Perks of Being a Wallflower and The Bling Ring, and she even played

The Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg-produced World War II series Masters of the Air has something that its predecessors did not: a bona fide movie star in the lead role. Thanks to his award-winning role as the King himself in 2022’s Elvis, Austin Butler has burst onto the scene as a major acting force. And he brings that gravitas with him to portray Gale “Buck” Cleven in the nine-episode Apple TV+ series about WWII bomber pilots.
Cleven is the perfect role for the brooding Butler – a quiet, confident figure that the rest of his crew looks up to. Sofia Coppola may come from film royalty, but she’s an artist all her own.
The daughter of Francis Ford Coppola, Sofia Coppola began her career as an infant — appearing as the newborn baby of Connie (Talia Shire) in the baptism scene of “The Godfather.” From there, she had a supporting role in his films “Peggy Sue Got Married” and the third “Godfather” film, filling in for the latter after original star Winona Ryder dropped out. Moving over to directing as an adult, she stunned critics with her 1999 debut feature “The Virgin Suicides,” an adaptation of Jeffrey Eugenides’ book about five mysterious sisters and their troubled home lives.
“The Virgin Suicides” was one of the most acclaimed indie films of the ‘90s, and established the visual style (a soft color palette and dreamy cinematography) as well as the thematic content that would define Coppola’s career, while teaming her up...

Sofia Coppola is an Oscar-winning director with a career that spans decades in Hollywood behind titles like Priscilla, The Bling Ring, Marie Antoinette, Lost in Translation and The Virgin Suicides, to name a few.
Despite so many memorable titles in her history demonstrating that she is a recognizable director, Coppola still sees a disparity between genders in Hollywood.
In a recent interview, Coppola reflected on the struggle to get paid close to what her male counterparts bank when directing a film.
“I just see all these men getting hundreds of millions of dollars and then I’m fighting for a tiny fraction of that,” Coppola told the BBC. “I think it’s just left over from the way the culture of that business is.”
She continued, “I’m always fighting to get it and I’m just happy to get to make my movies independently and find people that believe in them.

Sofia Coppola fans can finally get a little closer to the inside of the famed director’s mind — or, more literally, a peek at the self-proclaimed mess she creates while in the process of filmmaking.
One of the best art books released this year was “Sofia Coppola Archive: 1999-2023,” which offers a visual account of Coppola’s entire career, personal archives and ephemera. The book brims with photos of miscellaneous items that now boast nostalgic value — from a poster of the Sundance premiere of “Virgin Suicides” to a marked-up copy of the Vanity Fair article that inspired “The Bling Ring.” It also includes an extensive first look at her latest biopic on Priscilla Presley, “Priscilla.”

It’s an interesting month ahead on Hulu, as the streamer rolls out some of the series it’s been keeping in its back pocket for the holiday season.
On December 15, the first season of Such Brave Girls will arrive. The sitcom follows a dysfunctional family – and we mean dysfunctional! – that includes real-life sisters Kat Sadler and Lizzie Davidson. British comedian Sadler has previously written for The News Quiz, Hypothetical, and Mel Giedroyc: Unforgivable, but this is her first big TV project. “Everything we joke about in the show is from a place of lived experience,” she told Funny Women. “I wish I could say this is a heart-warming show about overcoming trauma, but that would be a lie. It’s about three toxic, damaged egomaniacs manipulating the world and each other for their own personal gain, vengeance and glory…just like in Little Women.” Sounds good!

For half a century now, Priscilla Presley has been asked the same question over and over again: “What was it really like living with Elvis?” This year, we’ve been able to see for ourselves in Sofia Coppola’s tender biopic Priscilla, the story of a young girl swept off her feet by the most famous man on the planet, the first and most enduring rock’n’roll icon, a legend whose luminous fame has not dimmed one iota since his untimely death in 1977, aged just 42.
It’s a fairytale of sorts, in the most romantic and also the darkest sense of the word. In the world outside the musical gates at Graceland, the Memphis estate that Elvis bought for his mother, Priscilla Beaulieu was thought to be living the dream. The reality, however, was different, something that piqued Coppola’s curiosity. Indeed, strong but lonely women are a recurrent theme for the director,...

After the Southern Gothic thriller elements of 2017’s The Beguiled and the broad rom-com antics of 2020’s On the Rocks, which saw Sofia Coppola departing slightly from the aesthetic territory that she’d staked so forcefully in her earlier work, Priscilla finds the filmmaker firmly back in her wheelhouse. Based on Priscilla Presley’s 1985 biography Elvis and Me, Coppola’s latest is another impossibly photogenic tale of fame, solitude, material wealth, and female desire in a world that often contrives to deny its existence. In conjunction with the film’s release, we ranked all of Coppola’s features to date. David Robb

After October began and ended with two monstrous box office hits, November starts a bit quieter with a few lower-key releases that may have trouble making a significant mark. Read on for Gold Derby’s box office preview.
A24 will be releasing Sofia Coppola‘s “Priscilla,” starring Cailee Spaeney as Priscilla Presley and Jacob Elordi as Elvis Presley, nationwide on Friday after a platform release into four theaters in New York and L.A. this past weekend, where it averaged a solid $33k per location. Adapted by Coppola from Priscilla Presley‘s 1985 memoir “Elvis and Me,” the movie shows a darker side to the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll in the toxic and abusive treatment of his younger wife.
Obviously, two things going for “Priscilla” is Coppola’s own popularity as a filmmaker going back to 1999’s “The Virgin Suicides” and more recent films like “The Bling Ring” in 2013, although...

Watson first worked with Miller in the 2012 high school drama Perks of Being a Wallflower. The two portrayed a pair of charismatic teenagers mentoring another unpopular student played by Logan Lerman. At the time, the three actors bonded on set, which the film’s director Steve Chbosky predicted would happen.

Cailee Spaeny and Jacob Elordi are stepping into some iconic shoes as Priscilla and Elvis Presley in Sofia Coppola's adaptation of Priscilla's 1985 memoir, "Elvis and Me." The film, "Priscilla," which Coppola wrote and directed, will be distributed by A24 in North America. "Priscilla" premiered at the Venice Film Festival on Sept. 4, and Priscilla, who serves as an executive producer on the movie, was in attendance as well.
Coppola is known for "The Virgin Suicides" and "Marie Antoinette," and previously worked with A24 on "On the Rocks" and "The Bling Ring." Writer-director Sofia Coppola adapts Priscilla Presley’s autobiography “Elvis and Me” for her A24 film “Priscilla,” starring Cailee Spaeny as the American icon alongside Jacob Elordi as Elvis.
“Priscilla” follows the eponymous heroine from meeting Elvis as a teenager to eventually leaving him and Graceland behind. The film marks Coppola’s third feature with A24 following “On the Rocks” and “The Bling Ring.” Coppola reunites with collaborators like cinematographer Philippe Le Sourd, costume designer Stacey Battat, editor Sarah Flack, and production designer Tamara Deverell for the period piece. The film charts 14 years in Priscilla’s life, starting at age 14 when she met 24-year-old Elvis.
The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival, where Spaeny won the Volpi Cup for Best Actress, and is set to screen as the Centerpiece feature at the New York Film Festival.
Director Coppola has opened up about how she could relate to Priscilla’s coming-of-age in the public eye.

In “The Ringleader: The Case of Bling Ring,” director Erin Lee Carr revisits the infamous group of Calabasas, Calif. teenagers responsible for burglarizing the homes of celebrities including Orlando Bloom and Paris Hilton. But instead of merely rehashing the splashy story, Carr focuses on Rachel Lee, the alleged ringleader of the Bling Ring, who has never spoken to the media about her role in the 2008/2009 crime.
It took the director 12 months to convince Lee to sit in front of a camera and tell her side of the story. Initially, Lee wanted to do a podcast to maintain her anonymity, but Carr said no. The response was understandable given the director’s track record for making docus, not podcasts, about juicy true crimes. Carr’s credits include “Undercurrent: The Disappearance of Kim Wall,” “I Love You Now Die,” and “Mommy Dead and Dearest.”

Has Sofia Coppola done it again? The acclaimed writer/director is currently putting together what kids these days would call a "heater," riding high on streak of well-received movies between 2017's remake of "The Beguiled," "On the Rocks" in 2020, and now "Priscilla." The biopic of Priscilla Presley, Elvis' wife and a thoroughly compelling firebrand in her own right, stars Cailee Spaeny as the title character opposite Jacob Elordi as the famous singer. Marking a stark departure from director Baz Luhrmann's approach in last year's "Elvis," Coppola set out to tell the story from the perspective of someone who hasn't really received much of a spotlight in history, rather than confining a figure as important as Priscilla to a bit role or a supporting player on the margins.

To borrow a lyric from her famous husband’s hit song, Priscilla Presley was all shook up at the Venice Film Festival premiere of “Priscilla.” The subject of Sofia Coppola’s drama wiped away tears from her face on Monday night in Italy as the audience on the Lido exploded in a 7-minute standing ovation for the A24 indie film. Coppola and Presley attended the premiere alongside Cailee Spaeny and Jacob Elordi, who star as Priscilla and Elvis. The actors were granted a SAG-AFTRA waiver to promote the film amid the strike.
Presley was visibly moved by the film. As she dried her eyes, she hugged Spaeny. Coming off the heels of Baz Luhrmann’s “Elvis,” which opened in theaters in 2022, Coppola cast Elordi as the King of Rock and Roll in a portrait that isn’t always so flattering. The celebrated director looks back at her career, sharing the inspirations and experiences that shaped films from Lost in Translation to her forthcoming biopic, Priscilla. Words by Sofia Coppola, introduction by Kathryn Bromwich
There is a particular aesthetic that runs through Sofia Coppola’s work, whether she is turning her gauzy, feminised lens on the southern gothic of The Beguiled or urban alienation in Lost in Translation, the rococo excesses of Marie Antoinette or disaffected suburban youths in The Bling Ring. Coppola is adept at creating heady atmospheres and worlds that feel fully realised, her characters veering between emptiness, desire and repression; the frames in her films have a painterly quality, straddling the line between beauty and claustrophobia. Her singular style has influenced much of contemporary popular culture, from Lana Del Rey’s wistful music videos to Emma Cline’s novels about lonely and potentially dangerous young women.

Emma Watson spent a decade of her life portraying Hermione in the Harry Potter franchise. But because she was so used to the character, she wondered if her Hermione might accidentally show up in her non-Harry Potter flicks.

Although Watson had been acting since she was 11-years-old, she spent a good portion of her formative years being Hermione. This was different from other child stars like Dakota Fanning who grew up playing multiple characters. Still, Watson considered being a part of the hit franchise a learning experience that primed her for future challenges in her career.
“I’ve worked with animals, special effects, I’ve done some serious stunts and I’ve worked with some of the best actors and actresses in the world,” she once told Mirror. “I couldn’t have had better training.

Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla has been set as the centerpiece film at the New York Film Festival, making its North American premiere at the annual fall event on Oct. 6.
The A24 film about Elvis’ wife joins opening night movie May December, from Netflix, in this year’s lineup.
Priscilla stars Cailee Spaeny as Priscilla Ann Wagner and Jacob Elordi as Elvis, following Priscilla from her early years as an Army brat stationed in West Germany to her arrival at Graceland. The film was written and directed by Coppola with Priscilla Presley co-writing the film.
“I am honored to be back at the New York Film Festival with my new film and to be telling Priscilla Presley’s story, the unseen side of a great American myth,” Coppola said in a statement.
The festival notes that Priscilla Presley’s story has “rarely been told from her perspective” and says the subject is “exquisitely tailored to [Coppola’s] interests,...

Film at Lincoln Center has teed up Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla as the Centerpiece selection for the 61st New York Film Festival.
The A24 film starring Cailee Spaeny as Elvis Presley’s wife, Pricilla Beaulieu, will make its North American premiere at Alice Tully Hall on Oct. 6.
The fest runs from Sept. 29 to Oct. 15, opening with Todd Haynes’ May December starring Natalie Portman and Julianne Moore.
Never has there been a more obsessed-over icon than Elvis Presley, yet no one knew him more tenderly than Priscilla, whose story as Elvis’s romantic partner and only wife has rarely been told from her perspective. Coppola, who often depicts women living complicated lives behind closed doors, follows Priscilla’s love affair with Elvis, played by Jacob Elordi, from her early years as a teenage army brat in West Germany to her surreal arrival at Graceland.
