The Arkham Asylum TV show is no longer moving forward at Max, we hear. More on the story below.

Word has reached the Film Stories news desk that Max’s Arkham Asylum TV show is no longer happening at DC Studios.
The project has been in the works for several years and many showrunners, including Boardwalk Empire creator Terence Winter, have tried to crack it, but it seems that we’ve reached the end of the road, at least for this adaptation.
The show was originally supposed to take place within Matt Reeves’ The Batman universe and focus on the Gotham Police Department, but the idea was abandoned in favour of a plot that focused on the Arkham Asylum, a hospital for the criminally insane. Reeves was attached as an executive producer for the show, too.

Batman actors Ben Affleck and Christian Bale are no match for Michael Keaton – this is what actor Danny DeVito believes in after he confessed who he thinks did the best portrayal of the Caped Crusader in movies. After all, he worked with the actor in 1992’s Batman Returns.

Per Variety, the Arkham Asylum TV series has been scrapped. The series, which was in development for Max, had been in the works for a number of years, with a handful of creatives coming and going.
When the series was announced four years ago, it initially didn’t focus on Arkham Asylum. Instead, it was supposed to revolve around the Gotham City Police Department. Terence Winter (Boardwalk Empire) was set to write and executive produce the spin-off of Matt Reeves’ The Batman, but Winter left the series due to creative differences. Joe Barton (The Lazarus Project) then boarded the series, only to leave as well when the focus shifted to Arkham Asylum. The studio then tapped Antonio Campos (The Staircase) to take over, but it seems that the series just wasn’t meant to be. However, an individual with knowledge of the situation did tell Variety that a new Arkham...

The gates to Arkham Asylum are closing — for now. A DC show for Max centering on the hospital populated by Batman villains is no longer moving forward, at least in its current iteration, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
The latest version of the show had The Staircase‘s Antonio Campos set as showrunner and The Batman filmmaker Matt Reeves as executive producer. While that take is no longer in the works, it’s possible a different version could emerge down the road.
The proposed series went through years of development and changed direction several times. Originally, the show was set in the world of the Reeves-directed The Batman movie and focused on the Gotham Police Department, taking place a year before the movie. Reeves teamed with Boardwalk Empire creator Terence Winter for a show announced in July 2020, but Winter departed several months later, with Joe Barton set as the new showrunner in January 2021.

The planned Arkham Asylum TV series is no longer moving forward at Max, Variety has learned.
As Variety exclusively reported in October 2022, Antonio Campos had come onboard to serve as writer and showrunner of the series, which was originally meant to be set within the world of Matt Reeves’ “The Batman.” But according to an individual with knowledge of the situation, Campos’ version will not proceed. It is still possible, though, that a new project set within the infamous Gotham City asylum could be developed in the future, the individual noted.
Thus ends (at least for now) the show’s complicated path to the screen. It was originally announced in July 2020 with a series commitment, but at that time it was meant to focus on the inner workings of the Gotham Pd as featured in “The Batman.” Terrence Winter was attached to write and executive produce, but he left the...

Hideo Kojima, one of the most acclaimed game creators of all time, completely changed the genre when he debuted the game Metal Gear in Japan in 1987, kicking off one of the most sought-after action-stealth franchises of all time. Further, his characters and stories present his eccentric and innovative approach to this genre, which is what sticks with the game aficionados.

However, the imaginative developer is also highly persuasive when it comes to persuading actors to work on his projects, in addition to his games. Specifically, he convinced a major actor of the movie The Bikeriders to work on his game Death Stranding, and now fans want him to do the same with Robert Pattinson.

When James Gunn finally gave us the first look at David Corenswet’s Superman last month, some were less than thrilled because of the muted colors, which had to do with its lightning. Although it makes sense why this was chosen for the reveal, as it didn’t give away much details, fans were still craving for a look at the new suit in proper lightning.
Fortunately, a month after the reveal, fans’ wishes have come true, and following the new peek at the suit in broad daylight, fans are assured he’d have perfectly complimented Robert Pattinson’s Batman.

It's been a while since we had any official word of Matt Reeves' plans for his sequel to The Batman, and the lack of updates following the announcement that James Gunn and Peter Safran would be heading up a new Dcu led to speculation that the movie may have been delayed yet again or possibly even shelved altogether.
Gunn has always assured fans that this was not the case, and one of the actors involved with the film has now shared a positive production update.
According to Andy Serkis (Alfred Pennyworth), cameras are set to start rolling early next year.

Does it feel like yonks since Matt Reeves unleashed The Batman, his moody and noir-ish take on Gotham’s dark knight? It’s been well over two years now – but while The Batman Part II is still a way off, there’s a sequel of a different sort on the way. Long-gestating streaming series The Penguin will see Colin Farrell revive the role of Oz Cobb, and – as its new trailer makes clear – the series is very much a The Batman sequel, following on from the devastating flood that occurred at the end of Reeves’ film. Centrally, though, it concerns Oz trying to make a power grab in the wake of Carmine Falcone’s death – which the fellow Falcones are not best pleased about. Watch the trailer here:

It’s been over two years since Matt Reeves’s DC film ‘The Batman,’ starring Robert Pattinson, hit theaters. The movie garnered praise from both critics and audiences, especially for its atmospheric tone and focus on the detective skills of the Caped Crusader.
Currently, Matt Reeves is working on a sequel titled ‘The Batman – Part II,’ scheduled for release in October 2026. Before that, fans can look forward to the next installment in this crime saga: a spin-off series centered on The Penguin, with Colin Farrell returning to portray the iconic Batman villain.
Today, the second trailer for the series has been released. ‘The Penguin’ picks up a week after the events of ‘The Batman Part 1,’ with Oswald Cobb seizing the opportunity created by Carmine Falcone’s death to rise in power. Oswald will face off against Sofia Falcone, and the series, described by Farrell as “gruesome” and “dark,” promises intense drama.

If you're still feeling down in the dumps over "The Batman Part II" being delayed a full year while Warner Bros. figures this DC s**t out, I come bearing good news. "The Penguin," a spin-off series centered on Colin Farrell's crime boss Oswald "Oz" Cobb, aka The Penguin, is coming later this year and it looks to serve as a quasi-sequel to Matt Reeves' Fincher-esque, noirish take on the Caped Crusader. This will also mark the second time the titular Batman villain's rise to power in Gotham City's criminal underworld has been covered on the small screen after "Gotham," a deliriously ridiculous show in which, at one point, one of the series' heroes uncovers a corpse in a refrigerator and immediately pops the cap off a nice cool beverage on the top shelf, reasoning, "If I don't drink it, forensics will."

Max has released a new look at its upcoming DC crime drama The Penguin that gives a much more expansive look at the show’s world and characters.
Below is the second teaser trailer for the upcoming Max limited series — a spinoff of Matt Reeves’ 2022 hit The Batman starring Colin Farrell as the infamous Gotham City gangster. The footage includes scenes clearly picking up right after the events at the end of The Batman.
In the movie, The Penguin was a lieutenant to crime boss Carmine Falcone, who met an untimely end. In the series, The Penguin is stepping up to lead crime in Gotham City in a series. The footage suggests the show could play like a DC take on The Sopranos. Lauren LeFranc (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) serves as showrunner.

James Gunn has revealed 'The Batman Part II' is still being written. The co-head of DC Studios has given a promising update on the highly anticipated follow-up to 2022 comic book blockbuster 'The Batman', which introduced fans to Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne and his Caped Crusader alter ego.Asked on his Threads account if the sequel script is still in development, Gunn simply replied: "Yes."Another fan tried to get some more information out of the studio boss, and wondered when the script - which is once again being penned by filmmaker Matt Reeves - will actually be ready.Gunn is clearly staying tight lipped about the exact status, but he teased: "When Matt thinks it's ready!"Pattinson will reprise his role as The Dark Knight in the upcoming sequel, with Jeffrey Wright set to return as Commissioner Jim Gordon. There has been a lot of speculation about the new film,...

After delivering the biggest 2022 horror film, Smile, filmmaker Parker Finn is prepared to bring a remake of one of the most controversial horror films from the 1980s, Possession. Reportedly, Finn will collaborate with The Batman fame Robert Pattinson for the upcoming remake of the 1981 classic.

Possession, starring Sam Neill and Isabelle Adjani, was a bizarre horror drama that featured a failing marriage between an international spy and his wife. But things take a wild turn as we discover that the story has everything strange – from doppelgangers to an awful Lovecraftian tentacled creature.
While Robert Pattinson is confirmed to produce the film, he is also likely to lead. His association with the film also assures the fans that the actor is trying hard to leave his past image.

In 2022, rising out against the pandemic and towards a box office resurrection, The Batman from Matt Reeves starring Robert Pattinson also went down as one of the most fan-favorite outings of the character. Featuring a young version of the Caped Crusader, who had just begun his work in ridding the streets of Gotham, crime-free, the movie amassed acclaim for a number of creative decisions that had never made their way to the big screens before, making fans clamor and demand for more.

DC’s movie adaptations of comics currently have two live-action Batmen. One is in Gunn’s upcoming ‘The Brave and the Bold,’ while the other is part of a project spun off from the Dceu under the ‘Elseworlds’ label: Matt Reeves’s ‘The Batman,’ starring Robert Pattinson.
‘The Batman’ was intended to be the first in a trilogy of movies. Shortly after its release, ‘The Batman – Part II’ was announced. In December 2021, Robert Pattinson and Matt Reeves discussed ideas for future Batman films, including introducing Robin and featuring various villains like the Court of Owls. Then, in April 2022, Warner Bros. announced the development of the next Batman film, with Matt Reeves directing and Robert Pattinson starring.
The movie experienced delays a few months ago, and there has been no news since. However, a rumor recently circulated on social media suggesting that Parts 2 and 3 would be filmed back-to-back in 2025.

A few months ago, The Batman 2 was pushed back by a whole year, raising more questions about how the "Elseworlds" movie will fit into DC Studios' wider plans for the Dcu.
While James Gunn has said out-of-continuity projects will continue to be made, it's still strange to think that The Batman sequel will have to compete with The Brave and the Bold, a Batman and Robin-led project featuring a different Dark Knight.
Still, The Batman was a hit for Warner Bros. in 2022 (it earned over $770 million) and they're the ones who have the final say, not DC Studios.

There are ample reasons why Matt Reeves’ superhero flick with its noir edges and pensive tones instantly bewitched fans. From Robert Pattinson’s brooding Caped Crusader against the tragic backdrop of Gotham City and a rich, compelling storyline that highlights Batman’s detective side to the laudable production, The Batman was both a cinematic and commercial success.

But where Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne checked all the boxes and more, Barry Keoghan’s Joker seems to have fallen short. Or at least that’s what some moviegoers think.
How Barry Keoghan’s Joker in The Batman Differs From Past Versions
Unlike previous versions of the classic villain, Barry Keoghan’s Clown Prince of Crime in Matt Reeves’ The Batman has a congenital condition owing to which he cannot stop smiling. Not only that, but the Joker also has a more distinct facial scarring, which only accentuates Keoghan’s malformed look.

Batman has seen various incarnations over the years, whether it be live-action or animation. The character remains one of the most beloved among the pantheon of DC heroes, and multiple stories surrounding the character continue to be adapted. One of the unique iterations of the character was 2018’s Batman Ninja, putting a Japanese spin to the character.

The Dcu, a ‘broad but not blanket’ reset of the Dceu, headed by James Gunn, has a lot riding on it when it comes to the future of Warner Bros. in general. While the highly anticipated Superman movie is set to become the first major offering under the new regime, a number of other highly-anticipated movies are also in the pipeline.
This includes the upcoming Batman II movie, which is set to further the journey of Robert Pattinson’s Batman and is rumored to have a place for Barry Keoghan’s Joker. While there have been rumors of several other antagonists who might as well end up being a part of Batman II, a fan on Twitter recently came up with his own iteration of how the movie should look like.

Mattson Tomlin, showrunner and writer of the Terminator Zero anime series at Netflix, was not very comfortable writing some parts of season 1 consisting of eight episodes. Amid a few hurdles, the writer had to overcome the biggest problem, and that was eliminating guns from the show. Can you imagine Terminator without guns?
Terminator Zero
The live-action Terminator saga has been action-packed with continuous gun blazing and several explosions. But Netflix, Skydance, and animation studio Production I.G. were all in favor of Terminator Zero to have a Japanese angle. However, Japanese culture is very different from the United States. Japanese gun law has limited the accessibility of guns over the decades, and even the police would first engage in hand-to-hand combat before using guns.

Despite decent reviews, the last Terminator movie, Dark Fate, was the latest instalment in the franchise to underperform at the box office, and it will probably be a very long time before we see the war against the machines continue on the big screen.
While the saga may be taking a (possibly permanent) break in live-action, a new 8-episode Netflix anime series titled Terminator Zero is on the way, and is set to premiere on August 29.
If that date sounds familiar, we were told that the Judgment Day event occurred on August 29, 1997 in the movies.
The streamer (via EW) has debuted the first official promo images for the show, which will take the classic sci-fi franchise in a completely new direction by moving the story to Tokyo, Japan, and, for the first time, shifting away from Sarah and John Connor, who have (together or separately) featured in all previous Terminator movies.

The first two "Terminator" movies are amongst the greatest works of science-fiction in American cinema — which makes the fact the original "Terminator" almost did not happen baffling. These films gave us groundbreaking special effects and iconic lines of dialogue, along with some rather scary predictions of the future.
Of course, the "Terminator" franchise has also given us some very mediocre sequels. Now, after six movies and a live-action TV show, the property is finally entering animation, with "The Batman 2" writer Mattson Tomlin spearheading the anime "Terminator Zero" for Netflix. After the streamer, Skydance, and Production I.G decided they wanted the show to have a Japanese component, Tomlin decided to set the anime in Japan. That decision brought with it a big problem, however. As Tomlin told Entertainment Weekly, "I was aware that there aren't really guns in Japan, and I don't think I quite appreciated how real that was.

Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Films may currently be in production on the first of the studio’s rebooted and reimagined superhero franchise pictures, but that doesn’t mean executives can’t make announcements about the second one.
“Supergirl: World of Tomorrow” will hit theaters (and IMAX) on June 26, 2026, as per reports. Milly Alcock, the 24-year-old Australian actress, will play Supergirl, also known as Kara Zor-El, also known as Kara Danvers, the cousin of Kal-El, the Last Son of Krypton, also known as Kal-El, also known as Clark Kent, also known as Superman. Kara Zor-El, by the way, should not be confused with Kara Zor-l, also known as Karen Starr, also known as Power Girl, who is also Superman’s cousin, but, like, from a different universe. It’s complicated. Alcock is best known for the part of Young Rhaenyra Targaryen in “House of the Dragon.”

The Dark Knight trilogy is one of the finest superhero franchises out there, and while The Dark Knight Rises did close the book on Christian Bale’s Batman, screenwriter Jonathan Nolan would eagerly return for more.
Jonathan Nolan, who co-wrote both The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises, was asked by Showsha if he’d like to return to the Batman franchise. “Wouldn’t that be a dream?” Nolan said. “That period was 10 years of my life [from] when I got the call to work on Batman Begins, and it was epic. Working with Christian [Bale], Heath [Ledger], Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, and to honor an American icon. If I had the chance to go back and work on that again? Absolutely.“
Getting that bang back together would be a tall order, as Nolan admitted, “We’ve moved onto other things,” and “other people have picked up the mantel and moved on with those characters.

The Dark Knight trilogy is considered, by some, the best superhero franchise ever made. The trio of films directed by Christopher Nolan, released between 2005 and 2012, are revered for their grown-up, adult crime drama vibe and cinematic scope.
Now Nolan’s brother and franchise co-writer Jonathan Nolan says he’d be down to return to the Batman universe.
In an interview promoting his hit Amazon series Fallout, Nolan was asked if he’d ever want to revisit the Batman franchise.

Leonardo DiCaprio turned down perhaps almost as many films as he ended up starring in. There was one feature he was seriously mulling over doing that he decided to pass on for another project.
But if DiCaprio signed on, the movie might’ve been different than the disaster that took a toll on Colin Farrell.

The first trailer for Joker: Folie à Deux brings together unites Oscar winners Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga for one of the more intriguing entries of the 2024 theatrical calendar.
Warner Bros. unveiled the look at CinemaCon, where Joker 2 is among the top titles theater owners were curious for a glimpse at — and for good reason. It’s a sequel to a $1 billion hit that earned Phoenix an Oscar, but is also taking a left turn by entering the musical genre.
But director Todd Phillips noted that in some ways it’s not all that different from the first, which also had music as a key element.
“We never talked about it like that,” said Phillips when asked if it was a musical. “I like to say it’s a movie where music is an essential element. To me, that doesn’t veer to far from the first film.” In the first film,...

Last week, Max finally released the trailer for their much-anticipated The Batman spin-off series, The Penguin, teeing up its fall release date. Overall, it looks highly reminiscent of Matt Reeves’ film, with the cinematography very much in the Grieg Fraser mode. But what else do we know about The Penguin? More than you may think.
The Penguin is set after The Batman.
The plot of The Penguin is set to follow the title character, once again portrayed by Colin Farrell, as he rises through the ranks of the Gotham City criminal underworld. After the events of The Batman and the flooding of Gotham, including the death of Carmine Falcone, Cobblepot desperately wants to fill the power vacuum. Colin Farrell has also indicated that the film will serve as an origin story for the Penguin, something we have seen twice on screen before in Tim Burton’s Batman Returns, played by Danny DeVito.

As the co-ceo of DC Studios, James Gunn has laid a roadmap of how his new Dcu will be and what characters are to be included in it. While he has announced a plethora of projects that will be a part of his new Dcu, he and Peter Safran are the only ones who know how multiple films and characters tie in and the ramifications it will have in the larger Dcu.

While James Gunn has begun filming for his first chapter of the new Dcu, Superman, he has also been working extra hard as the DC Studios chief to dispel rumors about his films or any other upcoming films in the franchise. The filmmaker is known to be active on Threads and frequently provides answers to fans about a rumor in case it is fake.
Gunn recently debunked a rumor about the casting of a former Marvel star to play Harvey Dent in Matt Reeves’ upcoming film The Batman: Part II. Narcos star Boyd Holbrook was rumored to have joined the cast of the Robert Pattinson starrer as Two-Face. However, Gunn quickly squashed the rumor, saying that the news report was fake.

Back in 2022 former freelance artist for DC Comics, Christopher Wozniak sued Warner Brothers for apparently plagiarising his work. Not long after ‘The Batman’ premiered, Wozniak expressed shock at Warner Bros., Matt Reeves, and Peter Craig, alleging they copied his story ‘The Ultimate Riddle,’ renamed ‘The Blind Man’s Hat.’ Wozniak promptly hired a lawyer, leading to a copyright infringement lawsuit dubbed “Batmangate.”
The original lawsuit, filed in October 2022, led to Warner Bros. countersuing Wozniak, arguing his story infringed on their copyright by including Batman characters without permission. Despite Wozniak’s defense, the judge ruled in DC’s favor, stating Reeves and Craig didn’t plagiarize Wozniak. Instead, Wozniak was found guilty of copyright infringement for using DC characters without authorization.
In a 45-page decision, U.S. District Judge Paul Engelmayer concluded that Warner Bros. and ‘The Batman’ writer/director Matt Reeves did not copy Christopher Wozniak’s story ‘The Ultimate...

With this schedule in place, director Matt Reeves and his crew have plenty of room to fine-tune the script and scout for the perfect cast. But wait until autumn to hold your breath for any official casting reveals.

Debunking fun and exciting rumors is a dirty job sometimes, but someone has to do it. It stands to reason that a movie like "The Batman: Part II" would attract plenty of attention and interest, given the accolades that rolled in immediately following star Robert Pattinson's highly-anticipated introduction as the grungiest and most emo version of Bruce Wayne/Batman we've seen on the big screen yet. Director Matt Reeves didn't just helm another successful reboot for the most popular DC superhero while putting his own unique spin on it, but he did so by assembling a cast full of our greatest actors around. With stars like Zoë Kravitz, Colin Farrell, Jeffrey Wright, John Turturro, Andy Serkis, and even Paul Dano surrounding Pattinson, it's no surprise that fans would look forward to what other talent might be coming on board for the sequel.

DC’s live-action Batman projects currently include Gunn’s upcoming ‘The Brave and the Bold’ and Matt Reeves’ ‘The Batman’ under the ‘Elseworlds’ label, starring Robert Pattinson.
Originally planned as the first of a trilogy, ‘The Batman’ quickly led to the announcement of ‘The Batman – Part II.’ In December 2021, Robert Pattinson and Matt Reeves discussed ideas for future Batman films, such as introducing Robin and featuring villains like the Court of Owls. In April 2022, Warner Bros. confirmed the development of the next Batman film, with Matt Reeves directing and Robert Pattinson reprising his role.
Recently, news broke that the movie would be delayed by a full year. Instead of its original release date in October 2025, the movie is now slated to hit theaters on October 2, 2026. While several reasons have been speculated for the delay, including the SAG-AFTRA strike and theories about Gunn’s preferences, none have been officially confirmed.
