Joe Scarborough, the namesake host of MSNBC’s Morning Joe, addressed the network’s decision to pull Monday’s show from the air and instead run an NBC News/NBC News Now newsfeed that covered the aftermath of the assassination attempt on the life of Donald Trump.
“We were told, in no uncertain terms on Sunday evening, that there was going to be one news feed across all NBC channels yesterday,” Scarborough said, adding that it meant that “we were going to stay in breaking news mode throughout all day yesterday. That did not happen. We don’t know why that didn’t happen. Our team was not given a good answer as to why that didn’t happen.”
MSNBC returned to its regular program lineup by the afternoon, with Nicolle Wallace hosting her show at 4 p.m. Et.

The hosts of MSNBC’s Morning Joe were quick to vent their frustrations about Monday morning’s preemption upon their return to air Tuesday.
Following Saturday’s attempted assassination on former president Donald Trump, a spokesperson for NBCUniversal News Group told CNN that, “given the gravity and complexity of this unfolding story, NBC News, NBC News Now and MSNBC have remained in rolling breaking news coverage since Saturday evening,” and thus would preempt Monday’s edition of Morning Joe.

Joe Scarborough took to his regular A.M. spot on MSNBC Tuesday to rail against something irregular that happened the day before: a decision by network bosses to take his show, “Morning Joe,” off the schedule one day prior in the aftermath of an attack on former President Donald Trump.
“We were told in no uncertain terms on Sunday night that there was going to be one news feed against all channels,” Scarborough said on air Tuesday. “I guess after there was such strong blowback about what happened yesterday morning that they changed their plans.” He added that he and his team “were very surprised, we were very disappointed.”
His co-anchors, Mika Brzezinski and Willie Geist, also weighed in during the program. Geist noted that he had been utilized on Sunday during a special “Today” broadcast with Savannah Guthrie that focused on the aftermath of a Saturday-evening assassination attempt on...

MSNBC pulled Morning Joe from the air on Monday, July 15, following the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump on July 13, noting that the network would be rolling breaking news coverage all day instead. Morning Joe hosts Joe Scarborough, Mika Brzezinski, and Willie Geist returned to the network on Tuesday morning (July 16) and aired their grievances with NBC News for pulling their show. They pointed out how the network did not stay in breaking news coverage all day Monday, which left them “very surprised” and “very disappointed.” “We were told in no uncertain terms on Sunday evening, that there was gonna be one news feed across all NBC News channels yesterday… that we were gonna stay, as a network, in breaking news mode,” Scarborough explained on Tuesday’s edition of Morning Joe. “That did not happen. MSNBC Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough says that he was “surprised” and “disappointed” after NBC leadership pulled his show Monday in favor of rolling breaking news coverage about the attempted assassination of Donald Trump.
‘We’ve talked about it off the air, we’ll talk about it on the air, because we talk about everything on the air,” he said.
Scarborough, joined by co-hosts Mika Brzezinski and Willie Geist, opened the show by expressing some clear frustrations with what happened.

Scott MacFarlane, the CBS News correspondent, wasn’t quite sure what was going on Saturday night. He was covering former President Donald Trump’s rally in western Pennsylvania when he heard noises that reminded him of firecrackers. They were gunshots.
Suddenly, MacFarlane realized he was in potential danger — and a nearby rival was trying to keep him safe.
“Rachel Scott pulled me down,” says MacFarlane, referring to the ABC News veteran. She “grabbed me by the arm, told me to get beneath the bleachers.” On Sunday morning, MacFarlane tells Variety, “I gave her a big hug.”
As TV news outlets try to pivot from one of the rarest of events — an assassination attempt on a former U.S. president — to coverage of the Republican National Convention, such goodwill may be in short supply. MSNBC pulled Morning Joe from the air on Monday, July 15 following the shooting at former President Donald Trump’s Pennsylvania rally on July 13. Viewers of the Joe Scarborough, Mika Brzezinski, and Willie Geist-hosted news program are angered by the network’s decision, announced prior to Monday morning, the day that the Republican National Convention is set to begin. MSNBC decided not to air the political roundtable program on July 15 in order to continue live coverage of breaking news events following the shooting on Saturday, July 13, according to CNN. Morning Joe will resume its live programming on Tuesday, July 16. A source told CNN that the decision was a preemptive measure just in case one of the many guests who engage in political discussion with the hosts said anything inappropriate regarding the shooting. “Given the gravity and complexity of this unfolding story, NBC News, NBC News Now and MSNBC have remained...

Two television networks have amended their coverage plans for the Republican National Convention following Saturday’s assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump.
On Monday, CNN reported rival cable network MSNBC decided to substitute its daily political affairs program “Morning Joe” with continuing coverage of the assassination attempt from NBC News. The network cited a “person familiar with the matter” who apparently said the decision to pull Morning Joe on Monday was meant to prevent an “inappropriate comment” from being aired on the show in the immediate aftermath of the situation. The program’s hosts and guests are often critical of Trump, and the show’s daily segments often focus on the former president.

MSNBC recognized the start of the Republican National Convention by giving its flagship morning program the day off.
“Morning Joe” and its early-a.M. companion program, “Way Too Early,” were scrapped on Monday as the NBCUniversal-backed cable-news outlet focused instead on breaking-news coverage tied to this weekend’s assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. Most of NBCUniversal’s news outlets — NBC News, MSNBC and the live-streaming service NBC News Now — have offered a single “special report” feed, all of it showing the same coverage of the violent event and its aftermath.
CNN previously reported that executives at NBCU News Group, led by chairman Cesar Conde, were sensitive to the potential effects of a guest on “Morning Joe” saying something that could offend general sensibilities. But MSNBC has been in what producers call “rolling” coverage of the Trump shooting and the investigation into it. On Monday morning, the cable...

Conspicuously absent from the cable news lineup Monday morning was Morning Joe, with MSNBC pre-empting the show in favor of NBC News and NBC News Now special reports in the wake of the assassination attempt on Donald Trump.
The show, hosted by Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, is scheduled to return on Tuesday.
CNN’s Oliver Darcy, citing a person familiar with the matter, reported that the MSNBC decision was made out of concern a guest “might make an inappropriate comment” that would create a larger backlash against the show and network. But an MSNBC spokesperson denied that characterization, noting that the network has been in breaking news coverage ever since the Trump rally shooting.

Joe Biden’s interview with NBC Nightly News anchor Lester Holt is still on, but will now be taking place at the White House on Monday, according to a network source.
The interview was to take place in Texas, but Biden’s trip there was canceled in wake of an assassination attempt on Donald Trump, the president’s rival in the 2024 presidential race.
NBC News announced the interview last week, with plans to air it in primetime on Monday night, which is also the first day of the Republican National Convention. The network still plans that schedule, with excerpts on NBC Nightly News earlier in the evening.

As President Biden seeks to reaffirm his place atop the 2024 Democratic presidential ticket, he is expanding his media blitz, setting a primetime interview with NBC’s Lester Holt in Texas on Monday.
NBC says that it will run the interview “in its entirety” as a primetime special Monday night at 9 p.m. It will also stream on the NBC News Now streaming service at that time, with some clips premiering on Monday’s NBC Nightly News, which Holt anchors.
NBC will also release an unedited transcript after the interview.
The NBC interview comes after Biden spoke to ABC’s George Stephanopoulos last week in another primetime interview, and just a couple of days after he called in to MSNBC’s Morning Joe. He is also set to participate in a press conference Thursday.

Updated, with additional details and react from other co-host: George Clooney, fresh off co-hosting a star-filled fundraiser for Joe Biden last month, is calling on Democrats to pick a new nominee and for the president to be a “hero” in stepping aside.
Clooney cited concerns over Biden’s age, and said that the president’s appearance at the fundraiser, in which he did a sit down with Barack Obama and Jimmy Kimmel, was similar to how he was at the debate with Donald Trump.
Clooney wrote in The New York Times, “I love Joe Biden. As a senator. As a vice president and as president. I consider him a friend, and I believe in him. Believe in his character. Believe in his morals. In the last four years, he’s won many of the battles he’s faced.

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi danced around questions of whether she continues to support President Joe Biden as the 2024 Democratic nominee during a Wednesday interview with MSNBC’s Morning Joe.
Pelosi was asked if Biden continues to have her support as the head of the Democratic ticket, but she didn’t really say.
“It’s up to the president to decide if he is going to run,” the former House Speaker responded. “We’re all encouraging him to make that decision. Because time is running short.”

CNN is finally gearing up to compete more aggressively in the digital future, where rivals have already staked out ground.
The Warner Bros. Discovery-backed news outlet will launch a new subscription product on CNN.com before the end of the year, according to a new memo from CNN Chairman and CEO Mark Thompson, and debut two new free ad-supported digital offerings, one based on CNN’s original series and productions, and another based on its Spanish-language service. The moves come amid an overhaul of CNN’s newsroom that will result in the elimination of 100 positions.
“We plan to take the journalistic firepower, user-experience and commercial potential of CNN Digital to the next level with strategic commitment, significant fresh investment, an injection of specialist expertise and plenty of creativity and experimentation,’” said Thompson, who didn’t offer granular details about the new subscription concept. “We will develop new digital products with...

Democrats weren’t able to cohere around plan regarding the future of President Joe Biden’s campaign after a closed-door meeting of their House caucus on Tuesday, the first such gathering since the president’s disastrous performance on the debate stage against former President Donald Trump.
Representatives leaving the meeting were hesitant to give details about what was said in the no-cell phones, members-only discussion, but the message was still clear: Dems are divided, and there’s no consensus on the path forward.

Whoever is living in the White House after January 20, 2025 will likely be calling up their favorite ideologically-allied cable-news hosts on the Oval Office landline. Monday’s cable news lineup made clear that both Donald Trump and Joe Biden, both off their prime as campaigners, are eager to use the Phone-a-Friend advantage.
Monday’s cable news agenda began with Biden dialing up MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” and ended with Trump ringing Fox News’ Sean Hannity. Neither candidate appeared, while speaking to their respective home-turf cable networks, on camera; both were fed softballs. Back when Nixon debated Kennedy and was found unphotogenic by comparison, Kennedy exploited the difference and emphasized his relative youth; in the wake of the June 27 CNN debate that established Trump as a solid frontrunner, both candidates seem to be trying to escape the camera.
On Fox, Trump struggled to come up with anything in particular to say about Biden’s debate performance.

Add one of America’s most political filmmakers to the list of those calling for Joe Biden to step aside as the Democratic candidate for president.
Oscar-winner Michael Moore published a piece on his website asking the president not to “let your enablers hound you into doing what your body is begging you not to do.”
Then on his podcast, Moore called letting Biden go out on the debate stage last week “the cruelest form of elder abuse I’ve ever been forced to watch…Who would send an 81-year-old out onto any stage to debate a living monster at nine o’clock at night for a brawl that would not end until 10:42 p.m.?”
He then begged the president, “Let the doctors examine you. Then do the right thing.”
Moore’s suggestion for a replacement? Vice President Kamala Harris.

Pointing to large crowds at weekend rallies in battleground states across the U.S., President Joe Biden laughed off the notion that he is seriously ill and pushed back against naysayers across the political and entertainment industries calling for him to step down from the Democratic presidential ticket, assuring all that he’s “not going anywhere” on a defiant phone call to MSNBC on Monday.
The offensive from the Biden campaign comes after his disastrous performance at the first presidential debate on June 27 and uninterrupted and unedited interview on Friday with ABC News, which did little to assuage fears of not only the incumbent losing the presidency to presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump but also that a red wave would hand Republicans the Senate and House.

A number of polls and pundits say Joe Biden should exit the race against Donald Trump after his debate debacle and ensuing fallout, but the President of the United States says he’s truly in it to win it.
“I have one job, and that’s to beat Donald Trump,” the 81-year-old incumbent told a conference call of major donors this morning in Biden’s latest attempt to shift the tide and shut down the talk of him stepping back for another candidate.
“I’m absolutely certain I’m the best person to be able to do that,” Biden said to his reelection National Finance Committee in a what one Hollywood participant described as a “forceful presentation that sounded like the Biden I used to know.”

Daytime TV’s most vocal cohosts have spoken about whether incumbent President Joe Biden should remain in the 2024 presidential race against Donald Trump in the wake of Biden’s first debate performance… and things got a bit intense as The View stars shared their differing takes on the matter. On Monday’s (June 8) episode, cohosts Whoopi Goldberg, Sara Haines, Sunny Hostin, Ana Navarro, and Alyssa Farah Griffin discussed Biden’s decision to remain in the race after the debate, along with his subsequent media appearances on ABC News on Friday and Morning Joe on Monday. Goldberg, for one, thought all the discussions of Biden’s age and related gaffes were beside the point entirely, saying, “I don’t care if he’s pooped his pants. I don’t care if he can’t put a sentence together. Show me he can’t do the job, and then I’ll say,...

Stephen King has added his name to the list of prominent figures who have called for President Joe Biden to exit the 2024 presidential race.
“Joe Biden has been a fine president, but it’s time for him—in the interests of the America he so clearly loves—to announce he will not run for re-election,” King wrote on X/Twitter this morning.
King has long been outspoken in his opposition to Donald Trump, writing on Sunday that “the French right wing is going down to defeat in spite of polls. May it happen to Trump and his head-in-the-sand cronies.”

But his concerns about Biden, following his dismal debate performance on June 27, reflect anxiety in the Democratic party and among longtime donors and supporters that the president will be able to defeat his predecessor in November.

After more than a week of interviews and campaign events attempting to counter calls to step down from his campaign, President Joe Biden is going on the offensive.

President Joe Biden started the week by insisting that he’s staying in the presidential race, calling into MSNBC’s Morning Joe and telling hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, “I am not going anywhere.”
Biden’s remarks came as some major prominent donors and more House Democrats have called for him to step aside following a dismal debate performance and a fresh round of concerns over his age. An interview with ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos on Friday failed to quell continued anxiety that Biden is on his way to a defeat against Donald Trump in November.
Morning Joe is generally friendly territory for the president, although Scarborough, in the immediate aftermath of the debate, said that Biden should consider exiting the race. He later tempered the remarks, saying that Democrats needed to take some time given the stakes of the race.

Joe Biden is barnstorming Pennsylvania today in an effort to get his reelection campaign back in the saddle, but here in Hollywood, the president just lost another high-profile major donor after his June 27 debate debacle.
Little more than a week after hosting a fundraiser for Vice President Kamala Harris for the incumbents, Rob Reiner has called for President Biden to “step aside.”
Terming the 81-year-old Potus as a man who has served the nation with “honor, decency and dignity,” the American President director joins the likes of Damon Lindelof, Netflix’s Reed Hastings and Abigail Disney in pleading with Biden over the last week to exit the race. Like the Watchmen showrunner and others, Reiner says it is more important to save American democracy from Donald Trump than for the sometimes uncertain and rambling Biden to stay in his latest bid for the White House.
It’s time to stop fucking around.

Update: Elton John joined President Joe Biden in New York later today at the opening of the Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center.
The Pride month celebration was part of a series of post-debate stops Biden has planned today and over the weekend.
John decried the “misinformation” and “senseless scapegoating” that threatens to “turn back the clock” on LGBTQ+ rights.
“No f–ing way,” John said. “…In this moment too we must take pride and fight on.”

Previously: President Joe Biden was more energetic and forceful at a rally Friday afternoon following his dismal performance at Thursday night’s debate with Donald Trump.
Biden acknowledged as much, as he told the crowd today, “I don’t walk as easily as I used to. I don’t speak as smoothly as I used to. I don’t debate as well as I used to. But I know what I do know.

In the hour leading up to President Joe Biden’s disastrous debate performance on Thursday, I peeked inside the flashy studio where MSNBC’s biggest stars were previewing how Donald Trump could derail the proceedings, and I saw megawatt smiles. The hosts were in the middle of a commercial break and clearly savoring one of the biggest political nights of the year; Rachel Maddow made a joke and everyone cracked up.
I was at 30 Rock for an appearance on NBC’s streaming news service. Afterward, out in the hallway, where producers and technicians scooped up free debate night snacks and sodas, I told one of the MSNBC hosts that I’d be watching Fox News after the debate to see how Fox would spin things for Trump. But I was wrong; Fox’s football-spiking was boring to watch. The far more compelling network to watch on Thursday night and Friday morning was Maddow’s network,...

The White House is slamming the New York Post for pushing out a video on social media, and later a cover story, claiming that President Joe Biden wandered off as he and other world leaders watched a skydiving demonstration at the G7 summit in Italy.
The Post video came with the message, “President Biden appeared to wander off at the G7 summit in Italy, with officials needing to pull him back to focus.”
But White House spokesman Andrew Bates noted that the video that the Post shared was cropped, missing the context of what Biden was doing: Speaking and congratulating another skydiver as some of the other world leaders were observing a separate diver.
Bates shared the video with the wider angle and wrote, “The Murdoch outlets are so desperate to distract from @Potus‘s record that they just lie. Here, they use an artificially narrow frame to hide from...

Former President Donald Trump was criticized for lauding Hannibal Lecter, the fictional serial killer from the 1991 film The Silence of the Lambs while claiming that migrants are being released from “insane asylums” into the U.S. at a weekend rally.
During a speech he made at his New Jersey campaign rally on May 11, Trump claimed that “the mental institution population is down because they’re taking people from insane asylums [in foreign countries] and from mental institutions” and sending them to the U.S.
“You know what the difference is, right,” he asked the crowd. “An insane asylum is a mental institution on steroids.”
“Silence of the Lamb – has anyone ever seen The Silence of the Lambs – the late, great Hannibal Lecter,” Trump added. “He’s a wonderful man. Remember the last scene?”

Mika Brzezinski got a huge surprise on Thursday’s (May 2) episode of MSNBC’s Morning Joe when her husband and co-host, Joe Scarborough, abruptly stopped the show to present her with a sweet birthday gift. In the clip, which the official Morning Joe X account posted online, Brzezinski introduces a segment featuring Dan Kilcoyne, the President and CEO of Mini Melts Ice Cream. But before she can start interviewing the creator of her favorite snack, Scarborough begins ringing the bell on his desk. Brzezinski can be heard gasping off-screen before the camera turns back to Scarborough, who says, “Mini Melts. Come on over, Dan.” Scarborough directs Kilcoyne over to the side of the stage in front of a display hidden behind a sheet. He then asks Brzezinski, who is sitting open-mouthed, to come and join them. Morning Joe celebrates our own Mika Brzezinski’s birthday with her favorite dessert: Mini melts!

Some startling rumors emerged shortly after New York Police Department officers — clad in what looked like every piece of riot gear available to the department — stormed Columbia University to forcibly remove and arrest student protesters occupying a campus building.
These weren’t students; these were professional agitators. These skilled infiltrators had used industrial chains to barricade the doors of Hamilton Hall. Even worse, one of the protesters was the wife of a known terror suspect.
The claims were at best misleading and at worst outright false — but that didn’t stop law enforcement,...

Poppy Harlow and CNN are parting ways after the news outlet put the veteran correspondent through a whirlwind era as one of the co-anchors of an ill-conceived morning program that was ultimately scrapped.
CNN executives “have been wonderful and have given me the space to make this decision,” Harlow said in a memo to colleagues Friday. “I am very grateful to them.”
The decision to leave was Harlow’s, according to people familiar with the matter. CNN executives had come up with a handful of ideas for a new role following the network’s decision to cancel the A.M. program she had been anchoring, most recently with Phil Mattingly. Mattingly has since been named a national correspondent. Harlow felt she wanted to take a break and survey other options that might be available to her, according to one of the people familiar with the situation.
She could probably use some time off.

NBC News has terminated former Republican National Committee chair Ronna McDaniel as a political analyst just days after hiring her after an unprecedented revolt among its anchors and staffers at its news division, who questioned why a person who supported former President Donald Trump‘s false statements about the 2020 election was hired in the first place.
“There is no doubt that the last several days have been difficult for the News Group,” NBCUniversal News Group President Cesar Conde told staff in an email. “After listening to the legitimate concerns of many of you, I have decided that Ronna McDaniel will not be an NBC News contributor.”
“I want to personally apologize to our team members who felt we let them down,” Conde wrote. “While this was a collective recommendation by some members of our leadership team, I approved it and take full responsibility for it.”

Ronna McDaniel is out at NBC News.
The former Republican National Committee chair was hired as a paid on-air contributor for the network, a move that received backlash from the network’s own anchors.
Rachel Maddow, Chuck Todd, Joy Reid, Nicolle Wallace, and Lawrence O’Donnell were among the MSNBC hosts who voiced their opposition to McDaniel‘s hire.
Morning Joe co-host Mika Brzeznski said, “To be clear, we believe NBC News should seek out conservative Republican voices to provide balance in their election coverage. But it should be conservative Republicans, not a person who used her position of power to be an anti-democracy election denier, and we hope NBC will reconsider its decision. It goes without saying that she will not be a guest on Morning Joe in her capacity as a paid contributor.”
Now, it has been announced that McDaniel has been dropped by NBC News.

Ronna McDaniel is out at NBC News. The former Republican National Committee head has been let go just four days after it was announced that she’d been hired as a paid contributor — a position that reportedly would have earned her $300,000 a year.
NBCUniversal News Group chairman Cesar Conde announced the news to his staff via email on Tuesday, according to CNN alum Brian Stelter: “There is no doubt that the last several days have been difficult for the News Group. After listening to the legitimate concerns of many of you, I have decided that Ronna McDaniel will not be an NBC News contributor.

NBC News has officially decided to part ways with its newest on-air contributor, Ronna McDaniel, the former Republican National Committee chair, just days after she was hired.
“After listening to the legitimate concerns of many of you, I have decided that Ronna McDaniel will not be an NBC News contributor,” NBC News Group chairman Cesar Conde wrote in a memo to staff Tuesday afternoon. “No organization, particularly a newsroom, can succeed unless it is cohesive and aligned. Over the last few days, it has become clear that this appointment undermines that goal.”
Separately, McDaniel has been dropped by CAA, the agency that repped her in the deal with the network, sources confirm to The Hollywood Reporter.
The former Republican National Committee chair was hired by NBC News on March 22 as an on-air contributor, and she made her NBC debut on Sunday’s edition of Meet the Press, where she was grilled by Kristen Welker.

The NBC News career of Ronna McDaniel, the former head of the Republican National Committee, has been ended before it had ever truly begun.
NBC News said Tuesday that it would cut ties with McDaniel after a phalanx of popular anchors rebelled against a decision to make her a political contributor who would offer commentary through the 2024 presidential election. NBC News executives had hoped to gain new insight to the thinking of the modern Republican party, but NBC News journalists could not stomach the prospect of putting McDaniel on air after she had helped former President Donald Trump in his efforts to undermine the integrity of the 2020 election, which was won by current officeholder Joe Biden.

Rachel Maddow, the biggest star on MSNBC, has weighed in on the controversial decision by NBC News to hire Ronna McDaniel as an on-air contributor.
Toward the tail end of an extended monologue about the history of American fascists from the 1930s and 1940s, Maddow ripped into the hiring as “inexplicable.”
“I mean, you wouldn’t hire a wiseguy, you wouldn’t hire a made man like a mobster to work at a Da’s office, right?” Maddow continued. “You wouldn’t hire a pickpocket to work as a Tsa screener. And so I find the decision to put her on the payroll, it’s inexplicable, and I hope they will reverse their decision.
“I want to associate myself with all my colleagues both at MSNBC and at NBC News,” Maddow added, “who have voiced loud and principled objections to our company putting on the payroll, someone who hasn’t just attacked us as journalists,...

A long line of MSNBC’s most popular anchors spent Monday calling out the network’s corporate sibling, NBC News, for its hire of former Republican National Committee chair Ronna McDaniel in a stunning display of internal rifts laid bare on the TV screen.
The hire of McDaniel as a contributor is “inexplicable,” Rachel Maddow said on MSNBC Monday night as part of a half-hour commercial-free monologue that painted the former politico as one in a line of fascists and would-be usurpers who have tried to take over America’s political process. McDaniel, who during her time as RNC head helped former President Donald Trump in his efforts to nullify the 2020 presidential election, said Maddow, “is part of an ongoing project to get rid of our system of government.”

Update: Rachel Maddow devoted the top of her MSNBC show to outlining the reasons for her objections to NBC News’ hire of former Republican National Committee chair Ronna McDaniel, calling the decision “inexplicable” and challenging some of the network spin in response to the backlash.
“I will tell you, the fact that Ms. McDaniel is on the payroll at NBC News, to me that is inexplicable,” she said. “You wouldn’t hire a wiseguy, you wouldn’t hire a made man like a mobster to work in a D.A.’s office, right? Ronna McDaniel may want to reconsider attending the NBC News division’s next happy hour gathering, seeing as more and more NBC News and MSNBC vets are publicly criticizing their bosses’ hiring of the former Republican National Committee chair as an on-air contributor.

Ronna McDaniel was supposed to be the new star contributor at NBC News. Now her position there is looking increasingly untenable.
NBC News hired the former Republican National Committee chief last week, betting that her recent access to the Trump campaign and Republican politicians would make her a valuable analyst as the 2024 election cycle intensified. But in recent days, her ability to do just that seems unclear. On Monday, Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski suggested on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” that NBC News reconsider its hire. A day earlier, Chuck Todd took to “Meet The Press” to chastise NBC News bosses for making moderator Kristen Welker conduct a news interview she had previously booked with McDaniel now that she was a paid operative of NBC and potentially less able to respond truthfully to hard questions.
It seems very likely that her position at NBC will remain in the news for the immediate future.

The fallout continues at NBC News over the hiring of former Republican National Committee chair Ronna McDaniel.
On Monday morning, MSNBC Morning Joe hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski weighed in on her hiring as a political analyst, saying that they had been “inundated with calls” about the controversial move.
“We learned about the hiring when we read about it in the press on Friday,” Scarborough said to viewers.
“We weren’t asked our opinion of the hiring but if we were, we would have strongly objected to it for several reasons,” he continued, discussing her role in the aftermath of the 2020 Election to pressure election officials.
“To be clear, we believe NBC News should seek out conservative Republican voices to provide balance in their election coverage,” Brzeznski continued. “But it should be conservative Republicans, not a person who used her position of power to be an anti-democracy election denier,...

Former President Donald Trump was criticized by his own former vice president, Mike Pence, for saluting prisoners who participated in the January 6 Capitol riot and calling them “hostages” during the introduction of his Dayton, Ohio campaign rally.
“Ladies and gentlemen, please rise for the horribly and unfairly treated January 6th hostages,” the moderator of the rally on March 16 stated over the loudspeaker.
Trump raised his right hand and saluted as the “January 6 Choir” sang the “Star Spangled Banner.” The choir is composed of Proud Boys, Oath Keepers and others imprisoned for helping to advance the failed insurrection.
The rally started with the Pledge of Allegiance recited by January 6 defendants serving time in the Washington, D.C., jail.
“You see the spirit from the hostages, and that’s what they are: hostages,” Trump claimed at the rally. “They’ve been treated terribly and very unfairly. And you know that and everybody knows that.
