The Other Black Girl will not return.
Hulu has canceled the comedy series based on the book of the same name by Zakiya Dalila Harris after a single season, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
First put in development in April 2020 before Tara Duncan signed on to serve as president of Disney’s Bipoc-focused studio Onyx Collective, the 10-episode satirical comedy about the publishing world dropped its full season in September to impressive reviews. The series currently has an 86 percent rating among critics on Rotten Tomatoes, though audiences seem to have rejected The Other Black Girl with that score sitting at a lackluster 50 percent among viewers.
Danielle Henderson (Sorry for Your Loss) originally was set to serve as showrunner but was ultimately replaced by Jordan Reddout and Gus Hickey. Exec producers on the series included Onyx’s Duncan, Rashida Jones, Temple Hill’s Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey, Adam Fishbach and author Harris.

Among true crime enthusiasts, there is always some debate about which type of series is best.
Some prefer programs that revisit solved cases and show how they were solved in new or more in-depth ways, like the Hulu miniseries Under the Bridge.
Others like to watch shows that examine injustices relating to wrongful convictions or unsolved crimes. One such show is SundanceTV's True Crime Story: It Couldn't Happen Here.
Many true crime enthusiasts are interested in the genre because they want to try solving cases themselves. The unsolved is often more appealing than the solved.
True Crime Story: It Couldn't Happen Here scratches that particular itch for armchair detectives in several ways.
The Premise
The series focuses on the many crimes committed in small-town America and the difficulties associated with solving them.
The purpose is to highlight small-town cases that have slipped through the judicial cracks.

Just in time for Monday’s Emmy awards, the USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative and Dr. Stacy L. Smith, along with the the Adobe Foundation, have unveiled The Inclusion List for episodic programming, which recognizes the most inclusive series in broadcast, cable and streaming.
Following a similar effort for films, the list analyzes on-screen and behind-the-camera personnel from more than 500 programs to determine the 100 most inclusive broadcast and cable series from the 2021-22 broadcast season, as well as streaming series from 2021 to 2023. The project also recognizes 20 producers responsible for the most inclusive content.
“The goal of the Inclusion List is to recognize the stories and storytellers who are taking inclusion seriously and whose content reflects their values,” said Dr. Smith, founder of the Annenberg Inclusion Initiative. “With today’s release of the Inclusion List for broadcast/cable and streaming series, we are excited to acknowledge the creative voices championing inclusion across the spectrum of episodic content.

CBS has handed a straight-to-series order to Watson, from writer Craig Sweeny (Elementary), Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment and CBS Studios, for the 2024-25 broadcast season. Morris Chestnut is set to play the title role and executive produce the medical drama inspired by the characters from Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes mysteries.
Last January, CBS ordered two drama pilots, Elsbeth starring Carrie Preston and Matlock starring Kathy Bates, as well as writers rooms for two medical drama projects, Watson and The Pact.
In anticipation of a series pickup, CBS and CBS Studios recently attached Chestnut as the lead and Larry Teng as director and executive producer of the first episode, paving the way to a formal greenlight.

If 2022 was the year Amazon Freevee broke out as a streaming success story, then this year belongs to Hulu's Onyx Collective.
The Disney-owned content brand launched in May 2021 with the goal of uplifting voices traditionally marginalized by Hollywood, and under the leadership of Tara Duncan (who previously served as the president of Freeform after a stint at Netflix), it has flourished. In Onyx's inaugural year, its first-ever acquisition, Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson's Summer of Soul, won an Oscar for Best Documentary Feature; the following year brought the release of first scripted series, legal drama Reasonable Doubt, and docuseries The Hair Tales, produced by industry heavyweights Tracee Ellis Ross and Oprah Winfrey.

Get ready, "Power Book II: Ghost" fans: season four is going to be a wild ride. Starz announced that the hit spinoff got the green light for yet another season on Jan. 30, just weeks before its season three premiere. "The high-octane drama of 'Power Book II: Ghost' continues to resonate with our viewers and we're thrilled to get season four production underway ahead of our season three debut," said Kathryn Busby, president of original programming for Starz, in a statement.

This is Day 82 of the SAG-AFTRA strike.
There’s solidarity in the air in LA with a slew of writers continuing to join the actors’ picket lines after securing their own deal with the AMPTP.
As talks between SAG-AFTRA and the studio alliance restart, the picket lines, now focused on the actors requests, are still busy and, as seen this morning, full of “cautious optimism.”
Two and a Half Men star Jon Cryer, whose upcoming NBC comedy Extended Family has shot the first six episodes, told Deadline, “The writers got real progress. I have constantly voiced my frustration with the AMPTP for not starting the negotiations a lot sooner. But it’s better than nothing.”
He added that he’s preparing himself for a deal “however long it takes.”
His biggest worry about the future of the entertainment industry, as it pertains to actors, is the “hollowing out of the industry.

Amazon Studios has picked up the rights to “Daring to Live,” produced by DeVon Franklin’s (“Breakthrough”) Franklin Entertainment.
Previously set up at Paramount Players, the project is now in development at Amazon Studios.
The film is inspired by Sheri Hunter’s 2020 memoir “Daring to Live: How the Power of Sisterhood and Taking Risks Can Jump-Start Your Joy.” It follows Hunter’s journey of “embracing life anew” after the sudden loss of her husband, thanks to the support of her group of friends — Angenette Frink, Mia Lewis and Brenda Jegede, collectively known as the “Dare Divas” — who encourage her to step outside her comfort zone.
As the film’s official description explains, the quartet go on to “tackle a series of death-defying adventures around the world that remind them all what it means to truly live. Through these dares, the women form an unbreakable bond and each learns to live life to the fullest.
