The great Martin Mull passed away recently, leaving behind a prodigious comedic legacy that included Fernwood 2 Night, Clue and that one scene in Jingle All the Way — not to mention his oddball discography and acclaimed fine art career. Most remembrances of Mull, though, singled out his work in Roseanne, where he played Roseanne Conner’s boss/frenemy Leon.
Less well-known is Mull’s role in another Roseanne-produced project, 1992’s The Jackie Thomas Show, a short-lived sitcom starring Tom Arnold as the unhinged star of a fictional sitcom.
Mull played a network executive who once worked at NBC, where he tried to cancel Cheers before it became a hit. “A bunch of slobs sitting around a bar, who knew?” he asked in the pilot episode.
Created by Arnold and Roseanne, the series featured guest stars that included Roseanne herself, as a crazed fan, and Chris Farley, as Arnold’s younger brother.

Throughout her journey as Penny in the sitcom, her character underwent a notable evolution, culminating in the series finale where Penny and Leonard’s relationship took a new turn with the revelation of Penny’s pregnancy.

Starring alongside the ensemble cast in the hit CBS sitcom, The Big Bang Theory, Kaley Cuoco’s Penny and Johnny Galecki’s Leonard’s relationship remained a central element of the series. The actors also developed an off-screen romance and dated almost for two years before breaking things up.

Recent documentaries about Albert Brooks and Steve Martin give the comics their rightful flowers for introducing a fresh comic persona to popular culture — the smarmy show-biz performer, polished, unctuous and self-satisfied to the point of absurdity. But Martin Mull, the accomplished musician, painter and comedian who passed away yesterday at the age of 80, deserves to be mentioned in their company.
Fernwood 2 Night, a spin-off of Norman Lear’s Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman, is one of those comedies more influential than beloved — no cable network has been running repeats for years. But catch a few episodes (thanks, Internet Archive!) and you’ll hear its echoes in It’s Garry Shandling’s Show and the mockumentaries of Christopher Guest. Mull starred as Barth Gimble, the obnoxiously hip co-host of a local talk show set in the fictional town of Fernwood, Ohio alongside Fred Willard’s clueless Jerry Hubbard.

Sandra Bernhard is apologizing to Morgan Fairchild for her behavior on the set of Roseanne. In a recent interview, Bernhard admitted she didn’t have a good relationship with her co-star due to her snotty attitude and has since offered an apology. I was a little dismissive of Morgan, and to this day, would like to say to Morgan, you are incredible to work with, you went there. Everybody was kind of not nice to her, admitted Bernhard. Three decades after sharing the screen with Morgan Fairchild on Roseanne, Sandra Bernhard is apologizing for her less-than-nice behavior toward her scene partner. “You know, it’s one of my biggest regrets that I wasn’t nicer to her,” Bernhard said on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen on Thursday, June 20, after a viewer asked the comedian about working with Fairchild. “I was a little dismissive of Morgan, and to this day, would like to say to Morgan, you are incredible to work with, you went there. … You’re fabulous, and you are on the right side politically. I owe you an apology. I adore you. And thank you for putting up with my snotty little attitude.” As Bernhard recurred as Nancy Bartlett, a business partner of Roseanne (Roseanne Barr) and Jackie (Laurie Metcalfe) on the ABC sitcom, Fairchild guest-starred as Nancy’s girlfriend Marla in three episodes in...

Morgan Fairchild is reacting to Sandra Bernhard’s apology after the latter revealed she had not been nice to her co-star on the Roseanne set back in the 1990s.
Bernhard recently admitted she didn’t have a good relationship with Fairchild on the ABC sitcom set. Fairchild appeared in a handful of episodes playing her bisexual girlfriend Marla and appeared in three episodes of the comedy.
“I’m very touched by Sandra Bernhard’s words. Very nice of her,” Fairchild posted on X, the microblogging platform formerly known as Twitter. “Yes, it was a difficult set for me, but that’s show biz.”

Although John Goodman is best remembered for his role as working-class father Dan Conner on TV’s “Roseanne” and “The Conners,” he’s also enjoyed a very successful big screen career as well, working with such directors as the Coen brothers, Steven Spielberg and Robert Zemeckis. Let’s look back at 20 of his greatest films, ranked worst to best.
Surprisingly (and criminally), not one of these roles brought Goodman an Oscar nomination. He did compete at the Golden Globes as Best Supporting Actor for “Barton Fink” (1991), but the academy went for his co-star Michael Lerner instead. Goodman also contended at the Globes four times as Best TV Comedy Actor for “Roseanne”, winning in 1993.
At the Emmys, Goodman earned seven consecutive Best Comedy Actor bids for “Roseanne” (1989-1995) and won for his guest performance on “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip” (2007). He’s also contended for his TV-movie work: once as...

A poster for Roseanne Season 11 popped up online, and some wonder if it's real.
The story of The Conners, a working middle-class family from Lanford, Illinois, began in 1988 with the ABC premiere of Roseanne. What followed was an intimate look at a close-knit group of people who were, more often than not, just scraping by but handled things with hope and humor.
Roseanne was relaunched in 2018 for a tenth season but reworked after a year into The Conners after lead Roseanne Barr landed herself in hot water while posting on social media. Her character died offscreen, and the series continued.

In a major M&a move, Banijay UK has acquired independent scripted production company Caryn Mandabach Productions Limited (Cmp). Cmp, founded by prolific award-winning producer Caryn Mandabach, produces and owns the BAFTA-winning global hit drama series and brand, Peaky Blinders.
Under the agreement, Cmp’s slate of projects and back catalog transfers to Banijay UK. Moving forward, the group will manage all future series, spin-offs and brand ventures resulting from that IP including the recently announced Peaky Blinders movie, which has been greenlit by Netflix, as Deadline exclusively reported earlier this week. Mandabach remains attached to the film as a producer alongside Steven Knight, Cillian Murphy and Guy Heeley.
Mandabach, whose list of credits is extensive, will pivot to a first-look development and producer agreement with Banijay UK under her newly formed Conduit Productions umbrella.

The sixth season finale of The Conners aired last night, and if things had worked out differently, it could have also been the sitcom's series finale. The cast and crew reportedly filmed an alternate closing scene, just in case the show had been cancelled. The series was ultimately renewed for a seventh and final season of just six episodes.
Starring John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, and Lecy Goranson, the ABC series is a spin-off of Roseanne, and follows Dan Conner (Goodman) and his extended family as they struggle through life in the fictional town of Lanford, Illinois.

Carissa: I love this bit from David Cronenberg from an interview with The Hollywood Reporter out of Cannes:
THR: So if you’re not ready to put your filmmaking career to bed, what makes you get up each day with an inkling you may do another movie?
Cronenberg: What makes me wake up is the thought of breakfast, quite frankly. That’s enough to get me out of bed.
Tyler: Love him, love that.

ABC has officially announced that The Conners will return for a seventh and final season. This news comes as a bittersweet moment for fans who have followed the series since its inception as a Roseanne spinoff in 2018. We wanted to land this show in a place where it felt like we could say goodbye in the best way possible, said Sara Gilbert, who not only stars as Darlene but has also served as an executive producer. ABC is switching up its schedule in a big way come fall 2024, and it’s bad news for some of our favorite series.
The Rookie, which has been bounced around the schedule in recent years, won’t return for Season 7 until 2025.
An exact timeline for the show’s return has not been determined, but it will have an 18-episode order, which is pretty good when considering the delayed start.
ABC plans to air those 18 episodes uninterrupted. Will Trent, which has been renewed for Season 3, is also getting the same treatment.
The biggest shocker on the fall schedule is the decision to bump Grey’s Anatomy to the 10/9c slot after spinoff Station 19 ends its run.
The news comes following a budget cut for the long-running medical drama, which will reduce the number of series regulars per episode.

It’s over for The Conners at ABC. The network has officially canceled the beloved Roseanne spinoff, confirming its seventh season will be its last. The final season is expected to be short, with only six episodes, bringing the total episode count to 106 after the series concludes on May 22. This is a significant drop from previous seasons and confirms lingering speculations about the show’s uncertain future. End of an Era The Conners premiered in 2018 following the controversial firing of Roseanne Barr from the reboot of her eponymous sitcom Roseanne. Following its landmark 100th episode, ABC’s beloved family sitcom The Conners, a continuation of Roseanne, is set to conclude with its upcoming seventh season. This announcement comes as bittersweet news to fans who have followed the Conner family through decades of laughter, drama, and familial shifts. Farewell to a Family Marking the end of an era, The Conners began its journey in October 2018, stepping in as the narrative successor to Roseanne. The original series had been revived earlier in the year but faced cancellation following controversial remarks by its star, Roseanne Barr. Despite the setback, the spinoff thrived, focusing

A certain ABC family from Lanford will be back, at least for a little while, during the 2024-25 television season. The Conners has been renewed for a shortened seventh and final season. The 13 episodes of season six will finish airing on May 22nd.
A family comedy series, The Conners TV show stars John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, Lecy Goranson, Emma Kenney, Ames McNamara, and Jay R. Ferguson. Katey Sagal and Nat Faxon recur. Season six follows the clan as they continue to struggle, endure wins and losses, and above...

Last year, one of The Conners' executive producers said he felt the series may end with season six. An ABC executive later told him, "We didn't agree to that," and indicated the network had no plans to end the show. Could The Conners still come to an end this season, or is it sure to at least be renewed for a seventh season? Stay tuned. *Status Update Below.

The Conners fans can breathe a sigh of relief as the ABC comedy will return for a seventh and final season at the network. The Roseanne spinoff was rumored to be renewed for an abbreviated final run by Deadline, which originally reported that the upcoming season would allow for the wrap-up of ongoing storylines from the current sixth season. Fresh off of its 100th episode, The Conners renewal isn’t altogether shocking as the television family continues to delight. Disney/Justin Stephens Current original stars of Roseanne, John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, and Lecy Goranson are expected to return for the season, reprising their roles as Dan, Jackie, Darlene, and Becky. Uncertainty around the show’s future was hinted at last spring as it was teased Season 6 might be the series’ last. Thankfully, it will not be. The Conners debuted in 2018, spinning off from the initial Roseanne revival which...

The Conners will get one final run on ABC.
The network has picked up a seventh season of the comedy, which will be its last on the network. It’s also set to be the shortest of any of the show’s seasons, with an episode count likely in the single digits. The shortest previous season of The Conners was its first, which ran 11 episodes; this year’s strikes-shortened edition has 13. The series as a whole will have 106 episodes to its credit after the May 22 season finale.
The Conners premiered in fall 2018, a few months after ABC canceled its highly rated Roseanne revival following racist remarks by star Roseanne Barr. After the show’s producers, including Tom Werner and Sara Gilbert, negotiated Barr’s exit, ABC gave a series order to The Cooners, which follows the other members of the Conner family (Roseanne’s character dies offscreen before the show...

“The Conners” has been renewed for Season 7 at ABC, which will also be the show’s last. In addition, ABC has canceled “Not Dead Yet” after two seasons.
The final season of “The Conners” will reportedly be shorter than past seasons, with sources saying it will run for just six episodes. ABC declined to comment on the length of the season.
“The Conners” originally debuted on ABC in 2018. It began as a revival of “Roseanne,” but following Roseanne Barr’s tweets about former Obama administration aide Valerie Jarrett, the revival was canceled. It’s official: The Conners will be getting a proper goodbye. The Roseanne follow-up has been renewed for seventh and final season. As Deadline reported exclusively last week, the order is believed to be for six episodes, with the main cast, including John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert and Lecy Goranson, expected to return. The renewal took longer to finalize because dates for the cast, particularly Goodman, had to be worked out, I hear.
Along with the official renewal, ABC has released the first “farewell season” promo, which leans into The Conners‘ history that spans two shows. With The Conners recently airing its 100th episode, Roseanne becomes a rare comedy franchise to produce two series that have hit that milestone.
“You’ve been part of this family for years,” the promo says, mixing footage from The Conners with a couple of shots from Roseanne. “After 6 seasons, be there to say goodbye.

The ABC sitcom The Conners was renewed on May 2 for Season 7, which the network has announced will be the show's last.
That final season, which will wrap the series up with an abbreviated order of six episodes, will bring to a close a saga that began in 1988.
We first met the Conners that year on the first season of Roseanne, a long-running series on ABC that ran until 1997.
The series was created by the famous comedian Roseanne Barr, who also starred as a character named Roseanne.
More than 20 years later, Roseanne was revived, with the majority of the original cast, once again on ABC. The revival was a big ratings success that led to its immediate renewal for a second season.
Exit Roseanne
But the original version of the revival was short-lived, as ABC canceled the series in 2018 after Roseanne made a racist social media about Valerie Jarrett, a longtime...

NBC has given a series order to “Happy’s Place,” the Reba McEntire-led pilot the network ordered in January, and greenlit “Lopez vs. Lopez” for Season 3. The multi-cam comedy will debut during the 2024-2024 broadcast season.
“Happy’s Place” follows Bobbie (Reba McEntire), who inherits her father’s restaurant and is less than thrilled to discover that she has a new business partner in the half-sister (Belissa Escobedo) she never knew she had. The cast also includes Melissa Peterman, Pablo Castelblanco, Tokala Black Elk and Rex Linn. Universal Television is the studio.

Double Oscar winner George Clooney has become one of the most successful people in his profession but despite family connections (his aunt was the late singer Rosemary Clooney), he struggled for years to make it as an actor.
After dropping out of college, Clooney would try his hand at acting. He struggled for a few years until finding a part on “E/R” in 1984. This wasn’t the “ER” that would make him a star 10 years later, but instead was a short-lived sitcom with the same name. In the decade between those shows, Clooney became known mostly for his track record of starring in an incredibly large number of pilots that weren’t picked up to be made into series. He would score a few successes with recurring roles on “The Facts of Life,” “Sisters” and “Roseanne,” but he would also suffer brutal humiliations like starring in “Return to Horror High...

Some of this TV season’s blood has already been spilled — looking at you, “NCIS: Hawai’i” — but as we head toward upfronts week, there are still a number of broadcast shows “on the bubble.”
But as the networks settle in on a diet of mostly stable franchises and fewer series pilots, there’s also less primetime schedule frenzy this year. The days before upfronts week which would normally mean a rapid fire few days of broadcast series renewals and cancellations announcements. But normal left the building a long time ago.
The broadcast network portion of upfronts has been so significantly pared down from years past that it hardly resembles what it used to be. These days, most of the broadcast networks announce renewals and cancellations well ahead of their actual presentations.
Take CBS, which has already announced its new fall and spring schedules as well as all of its renewals and cancellations.

Did The Conners get saved from cancellation or was the series axed in a shocking twist? As of recently, the show’s fate was up in the air as it neared the end of Season 6. It was also set for a schedule change so there was a lot going on and many unanswered questions. So, what has ultimately happened? Keep reading for more details.
Did The Conners Get Saved Or Axed In Shocking Twist?
With just three episodes left in Season 6, it was not looking promising for The Conners to be renewed. Though fans were hoping the show would be coming back, there were allegedly no contracts for the cast. At this point, it was late in the game and the stars should have signed on if there was to be another season. Since no one really knew their fate, an extra bit was filmed in case the season finale...

One of TV’s most iconic families gets a chance to say goodbye.
Deadline reports that The Conners is nearing an official pickup at ABC for Season 7.
The caveat is that it would be the Roseanne follow-up’s final season of around six episodes.
A deal is still being ironed out but is expected to be finalized relatively soon. John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, and Lecy Goranson are among the cast members expected to return.
Many final seasons of long-running shows lose cast members due to the ever-increasing costs of making TV.
A consistent performer for ABC since it premiered, the show has much softer ratings than Roseanne – all following Roseanne’s controversial cancellation in 2018.

Today's intel is a bit of a mixed bag for fans of The Conners.
After months of cancelation rumors, the long-running Roseanne spinoff has been renewed for a seventh season.
That's the good news.
The bad news is that the show will be coming to an end for good.
And it will do so with a dramatically reduced episode count.
According to a report from Deadline, producers were able to work out a deal with ABC wherein the show will be extended so that it can offer viewers a proper conclusion.
Unfortunately, that conclusion will unfold over just six episodes.
Again, it could've been worse, as there were fears that The Conners would be unceremoniously kicked to the curb at the end of its current season.
The situation was so dire that a tag scene was shot for the upcoming season finale that would end the story in a satisfactory way,...

Exclusive: Good news for The Conners fans. The Roseanne follow-up, which just marked its 100th episode, will be getting a seventh season. I hear it will be around six episodes, and the main cast, including John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert and Lecy Goranson, is expected to return.
Six seasons in, The Conners, from Tom Werner’s Werner Entertainment, remains a sturdy ratings performer. It will now join Abbott Elementary as the second ABC comedy series renewed for next season; Not Dead Yet remains in limbo, its renewal odds are pretty low.
