Yellowstone star Kevin Costner will return to the Western genre with his film series Horizon: An American Saga, the first part of which is set to arrive in theaters June 28. The first film in a planned four-arc installment premiered at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival to an 11-minute 40-second standing ovation, which brought the actor to tears.
Costner, who stars in and directs the Western installments, has been wanting to bring this project to the screen since 1988 when he started dreaming it up. He cowrote it with Jon Baird. The Dances With Wolves star revealed that production has begun for the third film and that he has plans to make a fourth. The second part of the series will follow the first with a theatrical release this summer.

It didn’t take long for costume designer Lisa Lovass to dive into her exhaustive prep for Kevin Costner’s “Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter 1,” the director’s ambitious Western chronicling the Civil War-era expansion and settlement of the American West. In fact, she started taking notes immediately after reading the first page of Costner’s massive script (co-written by Jon Baird), which was not her usual routine. But it was so densely packed with descriptions of the characters (140 speaking parts), as well as the locations, that Lovass needed to jot it all down to get a head start on her research, which turned into a book-length account of everything (including actual photographs from 1861 to 1865).
Lovass researched with surgical precision because she had three movies to plan. The first movie introduces three storylines: an attack on the Horizon tent town of San Pedro (eventually Arizona) by the Apache across...

It would be unreasonable to expect Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1, as the first of a planned four-film series about the expansion of the American West, to tie all of its narrative threads together. But Kevin Costner’s grand opus gets off to an inauspicious start, with its various storylines often muddled by the consistently haphazard editing, to the point that it becomes difficult to tell how many of the countless characters are related to one another.
If the audience is meant to be privy to where things are heading, there should at least be some clearly defined motivations or character development, perhaps even something resembling narrative momentum. But Horizon Chapter 1 is all table-setting, with the stories lacking in polish and dramatic momentum and the characters never developed beyond archetypes. There’s even little sense of either geographic or temporal scope to make this entry feel like part...

Kevin Costner is a legend in the Western genre. From his Best Picture winning feature directorial debut "Dances With Wolves" to his work on the wildly popular TV series "Yellowstone," Costner has cemented himself as an icon in this area. Now, after years of development, he has stepped behind the camera to bring "Horizon: An American Saga" to life. The planned four-film franchise is releasing its first two parts mere weeks apart this summer, with "Chapter 1" arriving next weekend. Unfortunately, it appears as though Costner's ambitious passion project isn't going to be commercially viable. At least not out of the gate.
"Horizon: An American Saga -- Chapter 1" is currently eyeing an opening weekend between $11 and $18 million, per Box Office Theory. That lines up with early tracking, which had the film taking in around $12 million on opening weekend, according to The Hollywood Reporter. In short, that's not a good start --...

Kevin Costner spent $38 million of his own money to finance his new Western film Horizon: An American Saga. Well, the early tracking numbers are in, and the news is not good: the first part of Horizon is currently projected to make $12 million in its opening weekend of release on June 28th (via The Hollywood Reporter).
Horizon has been Costner’s passion project for decades, having first begun working on it in 1988. Now, decades later, he’s finally set to unveil the first part of what he ultimately hopes to be a four-installment film franchise that he will write, direct, and star in himself. The total budget for the first two films sits around $100 million, with Costner himself having personally contributed $38 million to the overall budget (apparently by mortgaging his house). The remaining chunk was reportedly financed through foreign sales.

Academy Award-winning visionary filmmaker Kevin Costner directs New Line Cinema’s vast Horizon: An American Saga Chapters One and Two, a multi-faceted chronicle covering the Civil War expansion and settlement of the American West. A story of America too big for one film, this true cinematic event also stars Costner, who co-writes with Jon Baird (The Explorers Guild) and produces through his Territory Pictures.
In the great tradition of Warner Bros. Pictures’ iconic Westerns, Horizon: An American Saga explores the lure of the Old West and how it was won—and lost—through the blood, sweat and tears of many. Spanning the four years of the Civil War, from 1861 to 1865, Costner’s ambitious cinematic adventure will take audiences on an emotional journey across a country at war with itself, experienced through the lens of families, friends and foes all attempting to discover what it truly means to be the United States of America.

If you thought the first trailer was intense, it’s not intense compared to the second one, which suavely showed off Costner’s gun-slinging and tough-talking character. And that stand-off with Jamie Campbell Bower is sure to give your goosebumps goosebumps.
Kevin Costner – Shares New Look At His Upcoming Two-part Western Movie
The first trailer showed us the chaos that envelopes a town when settlers move in, and the second one is taking us deep into the heart of the whole process that led to the massive unrest.
While you may claim to have seen Kevin Costner in a western movie for many years – re ‘Yellowstone’ – you haven’t seen him in this one.
Let’s just say he’s a tad more brutal within this new environment.
Apart from showing us the breathtaking landscapes, we’re also introduced to more characters and we get to see and understand more of Costner’s character.

Kevin Costner is one of the most recognizable names in the movie industry, without a doubt. He has starred in numerous movies, including The Untouchables, Jkf, The Bodyguard, and others, but it seems that was Kevin Costner really likes is the western genre. He starred in Wyatt Earp, directed and starred in Dances with Wolves, which earned him two Oscars, and starred in the western series Hatfields & McCoys and Yellowstone, and he is currently working on a four-part movie series, Horizon: An American Saga, which is going to be set in the Civil War era, and we have just received confirmation of the first film’s epic runtime. The movie is set to premiere on May 19, 2024 at the Cannes Film Festival, and ahead of the premiere, a new official trailer has been revealed!
In short, Kevin Costner is directing, starring, and co-writing the saga, with Jon Baird joining him as co-writer.

"A lot of times we measure ourselves against other generations," said Costner about his new film series.
"I think about what was at stake. How did people survive? There's a rawness and an unpredictability about it. I'm haunted by that."
Costner, in addition to directing, stars in "Horizon", alongside his son Hayes Costner, who plays the young Costner.

Warner Bros. Pictures has released the new trailer and character posters for New Line Cinema’s Horizon: An American Saga, directed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Kevin Costner. Horizon: An American Saga is a multi-faceted chronicle covering the Civil War expansion and settlement of the American West.
A story of Americana and patriotism too big for one film, this true cinematic event also stars Costner, who co-wrote the script with Jon Baird (The Explorers Guild) and produces through his Territory Pictures.
Warner Bros. Pictures will distribute two films in the saga this summer – the first on June 28, 2024, followed quickly by the second on August 16, 2024. The first film is rated R for violence, some nudity, and sexuality.
In the great tradition of Warner Bros. Pictures’ iconic Westerns, Horizon: An American Saga explores the lure of the Old West and how it was won — and lost — through the blood, sweat, and tears of many.

Kevin Costner‘s two-part western epic passion project is just over the horizon. The first part of Horizon: An American Saga premieres next month and Warner Bros. has just released the new official second trailer for the film. The Yellowstone actor has returned to the director’s seat for the first time in over twenty years for these films. Costner began work on this story in 1988 and he has more movies planned. The main character that he invented for this film in 1988 was so important to him that he even named his son, Hayes, after him. He hopes the movies can be a big franchise and that years from now, people can binge-watch hours of Horizon in theaters.
In addition to directing and starring in the two-film saga, Kevin Costner also produced the project and co-wrote the script alongside Jon Baird. “In the great tradition of Warner Bros. Pictures’ iconic Westerns,...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the Law & Order: Organized Crime Season 4 Finale “Stabler’s Lament.”] Organized Crime is ending its run on NBC—the drama moves to Peacock for its fifth season—with a case that’s personal to Stabler (Christopher Meloni): His brother, Joe Jr. (Michael Trotter), is embedded with the big bad, Julian Emery (Tom Payne). So when better to throw in another emotional Stabler family dinner? Stabler starts the episode in a very contemplative state, at Kathy’s grave. “I sometimes feel I don’t know where I am. It’s as if the world and everything in it has become unrecognizable. Kids, grandkids, my brothers, ma, unrecognizable,” he admits. “It’s like I’m in a world that’s changed, and I’m trying, but… I know how to do my job and all the things that come with that. It’s all the other stuff, the stuff that makes up life, I’...

We’re big champions of physical media here at JoBlo, and despite ongoing claims that it will soon be going the way of the Dodo, we’ve yet to see its demise. Kevin Costner is also a big fan of physical media, and when asked by Deadline about the supposed “death of the DVD,” he was quick to jump to its defence.
“Death of the what? DVD is not dead, at all,” Kevin Costner said. “That’s what they’d have you believe. Maybe it’s not making the same amount of money, but just try to go ask for that from the studio. They won’t give that up. A lot of people that like my movies, they can’t get to a theater, and they’re waiting for that moment. You can’t make your film for the opening weekend. You have to make it for its life.

Kevin Costner is one of the most recognizable names in the movie industry, without a doubt. He has starred in numerous movies, including The Untouchables, Jkf, The Bodyguard, and others, but it seems that was Kevin Costner really likes is the western genre. He starred in Wyatt Earp, directed and starred in Dances with Wolves, which earned him two Oscars and starred in the western series Hatfields & McCoys and Yellowstone. It is obvious that he likes the Wild West in all shapes and sizes, and his next movie projects confirm that. Costner is currently working on a four-part movie series, Horizon: An American Saga, which is going to be set in the Civil War era, and we have just received confirmation of the first film’s epic runtime.

Hold onto your horses, folks! Kevin Costner’s Horizon: An American Saga is riding into CinemaCon 2024 to share the latest about the Yellowstone and Dances With Wolves star’s Western epic. On Monday, we learned the first part of Horizon: An American Saga, which will debut at the Cannes Film Festival on May 19. Still, attendees moseying into CinemaCon got a new look at the sprawling drama of how settlers won the West.
During the Warner Bros. panel, Costner addressed the CinemaCon crowd, saying the movie is a bit about the promise of America. The idea was that if you were mean enough, tough enough, you could take what you wanted, but in the process, you stepped on people who had been here for 1000 years. But the film does not pass judgment, and that story, to him, was drama.

Kevin Costner is hoping a few years from now, moviegoers will have the opportunity to binge four Horizon movies in theaters.
“Maybe a year and a half, two years from now, they will come (to theaters) for 12 hours,” he told the assembled crowd of theater owners Tuesday at CinemaCon, where he teased his two-part Horizon films.
So far, only two of his planned four films have been made, he acknowledged, but he has two more scripts ready to go, should the risky film project he helped finance be successful.

Did you have a stuffed animal when you were a kid? Heck, do you have one now (no judgment)? Well ... what if that stuffed animal was alive and also evil ... or something like that? That's the basic set-up of "Imaginary," one of the latest offerings from Blumhouse, the folks who know how to make horror hits. The horror flick directed by Jeff Wadlow hit theaters earlier this month, and if you've been waiting to watch the movie at home, here's some good news: it'll be available to watch via Premium Video on Demand and Premium Electronic Sell-Through this week! Tomorrow, in fact!
DeWanda Wise ("Jurassic World Dominion"), Tom Payne ("The Walking Dead"), Taegen Burns ("The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers"), Pyper Braun ("Desperation Road"), Betty Buckley ("Carrie"), Matthew Sato ("High School Musical: The Musical: The Series"), and Veronica Falcón ("Ozark") all star in the film, along with the movie's main attraction: Chauncey the Bear.

DeWanda Wise rose to prominence with her performance in the Netflix comedy-drama series She’s Gotta Have It. However, fans of the Jurassic World franchise might know the actress as Kayla Watts in 2022’s Jurassic World Dominion. Wise is currently starring in the Blumhouse horror film Imaginary, and gave an interview while promoting the film.

Teddy Bears can be scary too. At least that’s what the fine folks behind Imaginary are counting on. Opening last weekend, the latest from Blumhouse takes spooky toys in a new direction. Directed by Jeff Wadlow, who has had a couple of collaborations with Blumhouse, the thriller brings horror to the family. Starring DeWanda Wise, Taegen Burns, Pyper Braun, and Tom Payne who portray a family that faces an unexpected terror when a young girl discovers a cute little teddy bear.
Having spoken to Jeff Wadlow before, I’ve always found him to be terrific to talk with. Having sat down with him, along with Jason Blum, a couple weeks ago, Jeff and I continued our conversation the day before the film’s opening. During the extended chat, the director discussed the idea of a scary bear, and how that became the creepy toy in Imaginary. The filmmaker discussed his previous efforts,...

Blumhouse returned to the big screen with brand new horror movie Imaginary over the weekend, and the marketing campaign from Blumhouse and Lionsgate suggested that the studios were hoping to have another M3GAN on their hands. But while M3GAN opened to $30 million in early 2023, Imaginary only scared up 1/3 of that number in its debut weekend.
Director Jeff Wadlow’s Imaginary pulled in $10 million at the domestic box office over the weekend, but the good news for Blumhouse is that the film’s production budget was just $10-12 million. The Blumhouse model all but ensures that these smaller horror movies are going to be profitable no matter what – even if audiences and critics agree they’re not so good.
Speaking of which, you can read Meagan’s review for Bloody Disgusting here.

Stars: DeWanda Wise, Taegen Burns, Pyper Braun, Betty Buckley, Tom Payne, Veronica Falcon | Written by Jeff Wadlow, Greg Erb, Jason Oremland | Directed by Jeff Wadlow
Produced by BlumHouse and directed by Jeff Wadlow (Fantasy Island), Imaginary is a solidly entertaining Friday night horror flick that does a decent job with its premise. It may not deliver any really big scares (at least not if you’re not frightened of bears or spiders), but it’s consistently creepy and tense and Wadlow pulls off a couple of neat twists.
DeWanda Wise plays Jessica, a children’s book author and illustrator who has recently married musician Max (Tom Payne) and become stepmother to his two daughters, stroppy teenager Taylor (Taegen Burns) and six year-old Alice (Pyper Braun). When the family move into Jessica’s old family home, Alice finds an old teddy bear in the basement and quickly turns him into her imaginary friend,...

In the crammed video aisle of supernatural horror films, the introduction of a villainous teddy bear in Imaginary might initially raise more eyebrows than pulse rates. Directed with a keen eye for the absurd by Jeff Wadlow (director of Nofs fave Cry_Wolf) and penned by the trio of Wadlow, Greg Erb, and Jason Oremland, this latest offering from Blumhouse Productions – the powerhouse behind a slew of commodified villains – might seem like it’s scraping the bottom of the horror trope barrel. The film stars DeWanda Wise, Tom Payne, and the delightful Betty Buckley, in a narrative that threads the familiar needle of haunted playthings and the unseen horrors they sneak under our beds.

Director John Krasinski’s 2024 movie If is all set to hit the theatres in May 2024 and coincidentally, it was made alongside a film with a similar “imaginary friends” theme movie directed by Jeff Wadlow called Imaginary. In a recent interview, Wadlow opened up about running into Krasinski several times as their films were edited in the same building.

Talk about loyalty.
Betty Buckley has been staying at the Chateau Marmont for about 50 years. She first checked in when she was filming her big screen debut as gym teacher Miss Collins in “Carrie” and then when she landed the role of Abby Bradford, Dick Van Patten’s new wife and stepmother to his kids in ABC’s 1970s family comedy-drama “Eight Is Enough.”
After half a century calling the Chateau her Los Angeles home — she lives full-time at a ranch outside of Fort Worth, Texas — Buckley has a lot of stories.
“Oh, there are some wild ones,” the 76-year-old actor and singer says while nibbling on a fruit and cheese plate in the hotel’s lobby restaurant on a recent weekday afternoon. She’s in town promoting her new horror movie, “Imaginary.”

In the latest from Blumhouse, evil has found a new home in a cute little teddy bear. Imaginary tells the story of Jessica who returns to her childhood home with her family. Things don’t go so well when they discover a sweet old teddy bear, locked away in a secret door. What’s up with this scary bear? I won’t spoil it here. The Jeff Wadlow-directed feature stars DeWanda Wise, Taegen Burns, Pyper Braun, Tom Payne, and Betty Buckley. And now you can discover the secrets of this frightful childhood toy.

Dane Diliegro‘s breakthrough role as the feral Predator in 2022’s Prey marked him as one to watch in the genre space. Now, the 6’8″ actor can be seen going feral on screen once more in Imaginary, as the more monstrous version of Chauncey the Bear.
Imaginary, out now in theaters, is directed by Jeff Wadlow (Cry Wolf, Kick-Ass 2, Truth or Dare, Fantasy Island, The Curse of Bridge Hollow) and stars DeWanda Wise, Tom Payne, Taegen Burns, Pyper Braun, Veronica Falcon, and Betty Buckley.
The horror film introduces a cute, imaginary teddy bear named Chauncey, brought to life via the award-winning animatronic and practical effects house Spectral Motion. They have been known to get us through tough times in our childhoods, but what happens to imaginary friends when we get older and leave them behind for the “real world”? Do they simply vanish, or does some part of them remain, waiting for us to return for a playdate that will never happen? And what if they get impatient while they wait, with their own imagination becoming dark and twisted as the days turn into years and they wait for us to return so that we can be friends forever? These intriguing (and unsettling) questions are explored in the new horror movie Imaginary, a supernatural slice of gateway horror that takes some unexpectedly eerie turns and introduces viewers to Chauncey the Bear, a new horror villain who doesn’t play nice.

The Curse of Bridge Hollow and Fantasy Island director Jeff Wadlow’s Imaginary adheres to the time-honored tradition of transforming make-believe childhood pals into sinister manifestations that torment their abandoners. Here, a cuddly teddy bear named Chauncey harbors dangerous resentment for being forgotten, igniting a wave of terror for an unsuspecting family. If only that terror extended to the audience experience.
A cold open teases the monstrous imaginary friend via nightmare sequence before introducing the central family unit. Jessica (DeWanda Wise), along with her husband (Tom Payne) and stepchildren Taylor (Taegen Burns) and Alice (Pyper Braun), relocate from their hectic New Orleans apartment to Jessica’s childhood home in the suburbs. Typical growing pains and adjusting to a new town are compounded by dark family histories. Then Alice finds a cute teddy bear named Chauncey in the basement, which will force Jessica to confront painful memories when Alice starts behaving strangely.

It used to be that if a horror movie wasn’t very good, it was probably too simplistic in its fear mechanics: stalker on the loose, ghost in the attic, don’t go in the basement. Today, though, it’s often the case that megaplex horror schlock isn’t too simple — it’s too busy, too fraught with convolutions. Instead of jump scares, we get world-building hoops to jump through.
“Imaginary,” a watchable mess of a child’s-play fright flick, exemplifies the trend of overwrought too-muchness. The movie pivots around a little girl, Alice (Pyper Braun), who in the basement of her new home discovers an old Teddy bear, named Chauncey, who becomes her imaginary friend. But, of course, Chauncey isn’t just the sum of his stuffing; he’s a sinister presence with a life of his own. In the ancient days, “Imaginary” would have been an elemental spook...

But, of course, Chauncey isn’t just the sum of his stuffing; he’s a sinister presence with a life of his own. In the ancient days, “Imaginary” would have been an elemental spook...

With a similar elevator pitch and budget as M3GAN, Jeff Wadlow’s Imaginary is clearly striving to become 2024’s PG-13 horror darling about an evil children’s doll wreaking havoc on a family already in a state of metamorphosis. Regrettably, the filmmakers here have completely abandoned the archness of tone and shades of camp that made M3GAN such an entertaining, if ultimately inconsequential, experience. In place of that film’s knowing playfulness is an overwrought family drama that’s as undercooked as it is painfully familiar.
The blended family at the center of Imaginary consists of comic book artist Jessica (DeWanda Wise), her new husband, Max (Tom Payne), and his two kids from a previous marriage, Taylor (Taegen Burns) and Alice (Pyper Braun). While moody, edgy teenager Taylor constantly gives Jessica the cold shoulder, Alice—much to her big sister’s chagrin—has started to warm up to her stepmom.
