World-ending apocalypses are inherently terrifying, but sometimes what comes after is even scarier. The remnants of humanity are left to pick up the pieces of a world torn apart by devastating catastrophe, with resources far scarcer than ever-present threats.
This week’s streaming picks belong to post-apocalyptic horror movies that explore life after the world as we know it has ended, where conditions are harsh and survival odds are low.
While the frequent recurring theme of post-apocalyptic movies highlights how humankind is its own worst enemy, these five titles take drastically different approaches. Some favor retro style, while others infuse their wastelands with a heaping helping of inhuman monsters.
Here’s where you can stream them this week.

To use VFX or not use VFX: that is the question, and one that each TV show has to answer differently. “Sweet Tooth,” the Netflix series set in a world where a virus has wiped out much of humanity and, maybe or maybe not coincidentally, human-animal hybrids are now born, has a tactile, cobbled-together ethos in its design choices. The show’s look doesn’t just illustrate the haphazard nature of scavenging for survival but also is in itself a kind of argument for everything that makes its young human-deer hybrid Gus (Christian Convery) a hero. Building too much of that world in a digital environment would flatten it and make it feel too slick.
Still, in the show’s final season showdown, the story needed to create some big setpieces that were beyond what could be done practically. How “Sweet Tooth” combined new-school and old-school techniques is a fantastic...

Gus (Christian Convery) and Jepperd’s (Nonso Anozie) epic journey through a broken world overrun by sickness and crumbling salvation is at an end. With a new world order on the horizon, humankind could be on the brink of its last gasp as a new species ascends to dominion over land and sky. Netflix‘s Sweet Tooth is one of the streamer’s most eye-opening series as the story confronts the abuse of Mother Nature, the segregation of a marginalized hybrid community, and the promise of a new rise to power as humans cope with losing a Darwinian battle worldwide. Thankfully, gifted creators and actors from Sweet Tooth, including showrunner Jim Mickle, executive producers Susan Downey and Amanda Burrell, and actors Christian Convery, Nonso Anozie, and Rosalind Chao, are here to usher us through the apocalypse.

Sweet Tooth, the Netflix drama adapted from Jeff Lemire’s comic book, just released its third and final season, garnering a rare 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. The show, often overshadowed by Netflix hits like Stranger Things and The Witcher, has finally claimed its well-deserved spot among the best. The narrative of Sweet Tooth centers on Gus, a hybrid child with deer-like features navigating a post-apocalyptic world devastated by a virus. The story unfolds as he pursues survival, hope, and identity. As Jim Mickle, the showrunner, explains: The thing for me originally was the question if you could make an apocalyptic...

Three long years ago, Netflix released the first season of Sweet Tooth — an adaptation of Jeff Lemire's successful comic book series about a post-apocalyptic world and a virus that turns children into hybrids.
One of such hybrids is the fawn-like main character who, after the death of his father, decides to go on a journey across dangerous lands. If during these years you forgot what was in the colorful series showing the end of the world through the eyes of a naive boy, then there is a reason to watch the recap and remember everything.
The third and final season was warmly received not only by fans, but also by critics — on Rotten Tomatoes, the new chapter has 100% from critics and 80% from viewers. Isn't that a reason to return to the charming world of the post-apocalypse?

Sweet Tooth, the Netflix drama adapted from Jeff Lemire’s comic book, just released its highly anticipated third and final season. Despite being one of the most profound offerings from the streaming giant, it often feels overlooked compared to hits like Stranger Things, The Witcher, and The Sandman. However, its latest achievement might just reframe that narrative. The series has garnered a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, underscoring the excellence of showrunner Jim Mickle’s work. Love Is Blind is merely a TV show about TV relationships. Showtime’s Couples Therapy, however, is one big psychoanalysis session bursting with real vulnerability that’ll make you want to ditch your golden goblets forever.
Netflix’s social experiment sets up singles in adjoined rooms — called pods — in hopes that they might fall in love without the distraction of physical appearance, and ultimately forces couples to walk down the aisle where they’ll either say “I do,” or walk away from each other forever. But the series gets bogged down by pretend people and exchanges completely devoid of flirtation,...

I’ve been on a bit of a Larry Fessenden kick lately either intentionally or by circumstance. I really wanted to talk about the movie Late Phases which has a cameo from the man and his name in the produced by section. This led to one of our favorites in Danielle Harris wishing that more people knew about a movie she did called Stake Land. While this had a six degrees of separation angle attached to it with Late Phases star Nick Damichi also starring and writing Stake Land, it also brought back Fessenden in his comfortable producer role, oh and another cameo. We’ve gone down another rabbit hole and heard from the man himself that The Last Winter (watch it Here) is a movie of his that he wishes had been seen by more people. This movie see’s Larry in not only his producing and cameo roles...

The Sweet Tooth team never wanted to create “a bleak world” for its pint-sized hero, human-deer hybrid Gus (Christian Convery). There are unavoidably dark moments in the fantasy drama, which returns for Season 2 on April 27, but its ultimately hopeful tone offers an important message for kids and adults alike. “There are so many things that I grew up watching with my folks that still stick with me,” series creator Jim Mickle recalls. “I’d love to think that Sweet Tooth could be that for people.”
Sweet Tooth introduces us to a world where a deadly pandemic has eliminated 98% of humanity and many evil people have seized power. Hybrid children like Gus are viewed by adults as either terrifying threats or possible saviors. In Season 2, Gus finds true connection with Wendy (Naledi Murray), a human-pig hybrid, and her hybrid siblings as they face off against the First Men,...

Fallout is finally here and by the grace of god and Jonathan Nolan, it’s great. Based on an RPG video game series of the same name Prime Video is set in a world that was destroyed by a nuclear war 219 years and now the survivors have divided themselves into different factions. In this dangerous and unforgiving world, we follow the story of a privileged and naive young woman who has lived all her life in a civilized society in an underground vault, but some unexpected circumstances force her to leave the security of the vault behind and venture out into the real world. Fallout stars Ella Purnell, Aaron Moten, and Walton Goggins in the lead role with Moisés Arias, Kyle MacLachlan, Xelia Mendes-Jones, Zach Cherry, Xelia Mendes-Jones, Johnny Pemberton, Sarita Choudhury, and Leslie Uggams starring in supporting roles. So, if you loved the brutal, funny, and deadly world of Fallout,...

Who are we to disagree Danielle Harris? When looking for a Best Horror Movie You Never Saw, nothing in our completely mad up rules that say a movie can’t be well received at the time of release. It can win awards including one from the audiences that saw it at TIFF and the kind of go away. There are a ton of movies that are great and original films in a genre that is nearly as obsessed with sequels and movie universes as DC and Marvel are today. Stake Land (watch it Here) is an original piece of media that is one part Walking Dead, one part The Road, and all together one of the Best Horror Movies you Never Saw.

Rose Glass is back with a vengeance in her sweat-slick ode to American underbelly tales, Love Lies Bleeding. The Saint Maud filmmaker returns with a brawny psychological thriller that isn't afraid to get weird or take risks, which is both a warning and encouragement. Kristen Stewart and Katy O'Brian unsurprisingly flex their talents while wrestling with every twist and turn in Glass' queer criminal caper, gorgeously shot like high art meets a weightlifting competition. It's gritty like grip chalk and obscure in measured doses, comparable to something illicit like Jim Mickle's Cold in July splashed with Glass' exciting penchant for surrealist pops in an otherwise grounded narrative.
Kristen Stewart stars as reclusive Crater Gym manager Lou, who takes an immediate shine to the beefy and beautiful bodybuilder Jackie (Katy O'Brian). One thing leads to another, and Jackie ends up romantically entangled with Lou, shacked together while Jackie trains for a competition in Las Vegas.

Spoilers follow.
Time travel as a plot device is inherently tricky to pull off in a serious, dramatic setting, as it introduces logical paradoxes that remain unexplained even by scientific theory. There's the Grandfather paradox, which introduces too many inconsistencies within a timeline, and the question of negated intent once the goals facilitated by time travel are accomplished. However, if the story is gripping and twisty enough, and ends on a satisfactory note, such inconsistencies can be easily sidelined. But when it comes to a film like "In the Shadow of the Moon," the case becomes inherently complicated, especially when you dissect the time travel mechanics it employs.
"In the Shadow of the Moon" ends on a rather triumphant note, where the time travel accomplishes its goal, and the protagonists, Lockie (Boyd Holbrook) and Rya (Cleopatra Coleman), are given the opportunity to start over. While this works from a character standpoint,...

This week’s new horror releases bring The Last Voyage of the Demeter, based on “The Captain’s Log” chapter from Bram Stoker’s Dracula. It features the iconic vampire at his most monstrous as he lurks about the schooner and preys upon the passengers and crew. Thanks to Dracula, much of cinema’s portrayal of the vampire leans romantic; their predatory tactics are often seductive, masking their monstrous nature until far too late. This week’s streaming picks are dedicated to monstrous vampires, the vicious bloodsuckers unafraid to show off their inner creature. These vampires are vicious in their kills and showcase great creature designs.

Infectious disease has been a concern of humankind ever since we first began cooperating in large settlements, so it makes sense that this horrific fact of life has also become the basis for many of our scary stories. And while Covid and the Black Plague are scary enough on their own, some stories rely on much stranger (and often absurd) diseases in order to terrify audiences – especially when horror movies are concerned.
And with so many viral scares out there, we’ve decided to come up with a list recommending six of the strangest infection horror flicks for your viewing pleasure. After all, it might do horror fans some good to remember that things could still have been much worse after living through a very real pandemic.
Naturally, the films on this list aren’t the only strange viral horror flicks out there, so don’t forget to comment below...

“Our job is to fight for the show,” reveals executive producer Susan Downey on the goal for any good producer on series like their period drama “Perry Mason” and fantasy “Sweet Tooth.” For our recent webchat alongside her Team Downey partner Amanda Burrell, she adds, “We’re trying to be critical and trying to make sure we’re keeping the true north and supporting the vision of our showrunners and our filmmakers, and if you’re taking risks along the way and you’re doing things that you know make you a little bit nervous, then that’s certainly what we strive for. But you really hope that they work. So, it is nice to finally get Season 2 of both shows out into the world and see that people have been responding favorably.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.

Netflix has officially confirmed the upcoming third season of Sweet Tooth will be the show’s final season. Season two launched on April 27, 2023 and season three could arrive as soon as 2024, given that it’s already finished filming and won’t be impacted by the writers’ strike.
“Season 3 is an Arctic story with exciting new adventures and what we hope will be a satisfying conclusion to this epic tale. Gus is going to see a side of the world and humanity that he didn’t see in Season 1 or 2,” revealed series creator, writer, director, and showrunner Jim Mickle.
The renewal announcement included details on new season three regulars. Rosalind Chao, who plays Zhang, and Amy Seimetz, who plays Birdie, have been upped to series regulars. Cara Gee (The Expanse) is joining the series as Siana, and newcomer Ayazhan Dalabayeva will play Nuka in the final season.

Fantasy drama Sweet Tooth is returning for a third and final season, Netflix confirmed on Wednesday, May 3. Based on the DC Comics title, the Warner Bros. Television produced series is set in a fictional world where a virus has killed a majority of the world’s human population, leading to the emergence of hybrid babies that are born part human, part animal. Season 3 has already completed filming in New Zealand. “In a lot of ways, it’s exactly the story that I imagined we would tell and in a lot of ways it takes on its own life,” showrunner and creator Jim Mickle said in a statement. “At the beginning, I think you set out to tell these landmark pieces of Gus’ story and the big pieces of the comic book, but the beauty of long-form storytelling and Gus’ journey over 24 episodes is the characters themselves tell you what they want to be.

Season 2 of the series Sweet Tooth, which is an adaptation of the DC Vertigo comic book that ran from 2009 to 2013 for a total of 40 issues, was just released through the Netflix streaming service at the end of April (you can read our review Here). Now The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that Netflix has ordered a third season of the show – in fact, production on the season has already taken in place in New Zealand and it’s now wrapped! Netflix has also confirmed that Sweet Tooth season 3 will be the final season of the show.
Created by Jeff Lemire, Sweet Tooth was a coming-of-age fable of Gus, a boy/deer hybrid who leaves home to find the world ravaged by a cataclysmic event. He joins a ragtag family of hybrids and humans searching to find answers behind the event… ultimately discovering a vast conspiracy that forces him to question his very existence.
