Paul Walter Hauser is one of the busiest actors in Hollywood, and one of his many (and I mean many) upcoming projects is a Chris Farley biopic. Stepping into the shoes of the iconic comedian is no small task, but Hauser told Variety that he’s been “practicing to play Chris Farley my entire life.“
Hauser has played a handful of real-life people throughout his career, including Shawn Eckhardt in I, Tonya, Richard Jewell in Richard Jewell, and Larry Hall in Black Bird, but Farley is by far the most well-known, which makes Hauser’s task more difficult.
“Everybody’s going to judge the crap out of the movie and have very passionate, hard-line opinions. I’m not worried about playing Chris because I know I’m going to approach it with a lot of love and effort,” Hauser said. “At the end of the day, all you can do...

The exit ends a 35-year agenting career at CAA for Miller, who started in the mailroom in 1988 before becoming an assistant to agency co-founder Michael Ovitz and getting promoted to agent in 1989.
For decades, there had been a handful of TV lit-driven management companies. Over the last several years, their number more than doubled as a slew of top TV agents launched new management firms. Miller is one of the biggest names yet to make the switch.

The pair were driven by their determination to contribute to filmmaking and prove themselves as capable actors. Both stars were not in for the fame and were creatively bright individuals who wanted their voices heard in Hollywood.

Doug Liman and Tom Cruise haven’t shut down the idea of an Edge of Tomorrow sequel quite yet.
Ten years following the release of the 2014 sci-fi action film, the filmmaker told Empire magazine that he and the actor “keep talking about” doing a follow-up because “we love that world.”
“Tom and I just actually rewatched it about two months ago, because I hadn’t seen it in 10 years,” Liman added. “I was like, ‘Wow, that is a really good movie.’”
The original film, also starring Emily Blunt, follows a soldier (Cruise) who keeps reliving the same day over and over again while fighting aliens. Though Edge of Tomorrow had a sluggish start during its box office debut, it seemingly found longevity with viewers throughout the past decade.
“I haven’t necessarily always had the good fortune of having movies that have huge opening weekends,” the director admitted. “Bourne Identity...

Doug Liman, Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt are all said to be keen on a return to Edge Of Tomorrow. We’ve been down this road before though.
It’s a familiar pattern that we’ve seen before, but here we are again. One of the key creatives from 2014’s Edge Of Tomorrow will pop up and claim that they’re very interested in getting a sequel off the ground. A decade on from the original film’s release, Edge Of Tomorrow has only grown in esteem but despite everybody involved claiming that they are interested, no firm plans seem to exist.
It was back in 2020 that Emily Blunt – the original film’s co-star – announced that the script was written and “that [it] is really promising and really, really cool”. However, scheduling the availability of Blunt, director Doug Liman and the film’s star co-Tom Cruise seemed to be the problem,...

Tom Cruise is an extraordinarily busy man. When he’s not defying death on the set of a Mission: Impossible movie, lighting up the red carpet, or making deals to help reinvigorate the theater-going experience, you can find him watching movies with Doug Liman. I’m not kidding. According to Liman, he and Cruise watched their collaborative film Edge of Tomorrow together and are still discussing making a sequel.
Speaking with Empire magazine, Liman told the outlet, “No, we keep talking about it,” when asked if an Edge of Tomorrow sequel is in the cards. “We love that world,” Liman added, “Tom and I just actually rewatched it about two months ago, because I hadn’t seen it in 10 years,” Liman said. “I was like, ‘Wow, that is a really good movie.'”

After 10 years of waiting, “Edge of Tomorrow 2” may finally be closer to a greenlight.
Director Doug Liman confirmed to Empire magazine that Tom Cruise is still determined to get an “Edge of Tomorrow” sequel made. The film starred Cruise as an army general who, paired with Emily Blunt’s captain, battles an alien invasion. The duo continuously travel 24 hours back in time until they can defeat the extraterrestrials. The Liman-directed 2014 feature was written by Christopher McQuarrie, who went on to direct Cruise in the “Mission: Impossible” franchise.
An “Edge of Tomorrow” sequel was formally announced in 2016 with Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse cowriting. The project resurfaced in 2019 with “The Invention of Lying” co-writer Matthew Robinson handling the script, titled “Live Die Repeat and Repeat,” and Liman directing; however, it, too, was never made.
Liman assured fans that despite the stops and starts, “Edge of Tomorrow 2” will hopefully still happen.

Earlier this summer marked the 10 year anniversary of Edge Of Tomorrow – the Tom Cruise time-loop alien-invasion blockbuster that, fittingly, keeps finding new life. Doug Liman’s film – in which Cruise’s Major William Cage finds himself reliving an alien attack until he can finally beat the extraterrestrial foe – underwhelmed at the box office on initial release in 2014; in the decade since, it’s become hailed as one of Cruise’s greatest films, and has become a major audience favourite. But for all its popularity, a long-mooted sequel has never got off the ground. As far back as 2016, Liman talked about a follow-up that would, he said, “revolutionise how people make sequels”. Fear not though, fans – the filmmaker says the time hasn’t yet passed to make the film a reality.
Speaking to Empire ahead of the release of his latest film The Instigators, Liman confirmed that the Edge Of Tomorrow sequel isn’t dead yet.

The last time director Doug Liman teamed up with Matt Damon, they changed cinema together. The resulting film was 2002’s The Bourne Identity, a spy thriller that beat Bond at his own game and began Damon’s most famous recurring role, amnesiac spy Jason Bourne. So when Damon approached Liman with the script for heist thriller-comedy The Instigators – penned by co-star Casey Affleck, along with writer Chuck Maclean – it wasn’t just to respark their Bourne magic; it was to give the script the same fine-tooth-comb treatment that Damon and the director had afforded to Bourne two decades previously.
As Liman tells Empire, Affleck and Maclean’s initial screenplay boasted a stellar role for Affleck in Cobby, a walking disaster who ends up way over his head in a plot to rob the mayor of Boston on election night. But Damon’s role of reluctant co-conspirator Rory wasn’t singing so loudly.

2003. It’s an era of action movies where we’re living in a post-Matrix, post-Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon world. Those films’ major success and notoriety prompted Hollywood to try bringing Kung Fu wire work to more of their action films. Meanwhile, two of the biggest names in the genre – Jackie Chan and Jet Li – were attempting to expand their brand into the American market — with films that many of their fans considered to be watered-down versions of their previous works. Around the same time, Doug Liman debuted a newer visceral style of action in his film, The Bourne Identity, which would make its own mark on action films to come. However, somewhat hidden in all that activity was a budding star in Thailand who had taken his amazing physical skills and called back to some of the classic, acrobatic action that defined Hong Kong’s most beloved period of martial arts movies.

Massachusetts’s favorite sons, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, have a new wicked pissah of a movie in store for fans. The Oscar-winning writing duo behind “Good Will Hunting” and a lifetime of friendship will co-star and co-produce the crime thriller Rip for Netflix. Joe Carnahan, known for high testosterone pictures like “Smokin’ Aces” and “The Grey,” will direct the film based on his own original screenplay.
Plot details beyond the title and “crime thriller” description are not yet known.

And just like that, 2024 is already half over. Crazy, isn’t it? It feels like Christmas was just a minute ago, but here we are in the middle of summertime. Before we know it, the fall festivals will open up, the awards race will begin, and people will start debating the year’s best movies.
But here’s the thing – whenever people start talking about the best movies of the year, they always neglect all of the films that came out in the first half of the year. Studios know this, which is why high-profile, prestigious movies always bow in the fourth quarter of the year. So, to give these movies a bit of a spotlight, we here at JoBlo have decided to list the 10 best movies of 2024…so far (in no particular order).

A decade after the release of the sci-fi hit “Edge of Tomorrow,” director Doug Liman has provided a hopeful update on the much-anticipated sequel. In a recent interview with Total Film, Liman revealed that Warner Bros. Pictures is “constantly bringing up” the possibility of a follow-up to the Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt starrer.
“There’s no better compliment than Warner Bros. constantly bringing up, ‘Will you go and make another one of these?'” Liman stated, highlighting the studio’s persistent interest in the project. This update comes as a surprise to many fans, especially considering the prolonged development process and previous pessimistic statements from the cast.

For fans of the 2014 sci-fi action film "Edge of Tomorrow," the wait for a sequel has been long and full of disappointment. For a while there in 2022 it seemed like Warner Bros. might make a TV show that would serve as a sequel/spinoff, but two years later there still haven't been any updates. And though there've been plenty of rumors of a sequel movie in development, we've still gone ten years now without any official announcement.
Admittedly, it makes sense that "Edge of Tomorrow" would take a while to get a sequel greenlit. It wasn't a huge hit when it first came out; thanks to its $175 million budget, its $370 million worldwide box office earnings were considered a disappointment. It also doesn't help that the two main leads, Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt, have been so busy over the past decade. Even if the studio knew exactly which direction they wanted to take the sequel,...

Apple Original Films has acquired the rights to The Wives, a new murder mystery film that will reportedly star Jennifer Lawrence, as reported by Variety. Lawrence will also be producing as will A24 along with Apple Studios.

Tom Cruise signed a deal with Warner Bros. to co-produce and star in their films a few months ago, renewing their relationship after 2014’s Edge of Tomorrow. It was also rumored that Cruise and director Doug Liman were working on a space film project together. Now, Liman has shared that WB has been approaching him constantly for a sequel to his film. It appears that fans too want a second film from Cruise and Liman.

If such a film ever happens, it would be the perfect way to balance his current filmography. Cruise’s iconic IP, the Mission: Impossible films, are dropping in popularity with the last film making a financial loss for Paramount.

Jennifer Lawrence is leaning in to her Bravo super fandom.
The consummate “Real Housewives” franchise binger and frequent “Wwhl” guest will lead a film in development for Apple Original Films and A24 called “The Wives” that will feature a “Housewives” inspired murder, an individual with knowledge of the project told IndieWire.
Much like Netflix’s “Knives Out” ensemble whodunit, “The Wives” will focus on elite housewives who may or may not have a murderer among them, according to Variety, which first reported the news. Specific plot details are being kept under wraps.
The feature will be written by Michael Breslin and Patrick Foley, who both wrote the Pulitzer Prize finalist play “Circle Jerk.”
“The Wives” will be produced by Jeremy O. Harris (“Zola,” “Slave Play”) and Josh Godfrey under their bb2 banner. Lawrence and Justine Ciarrocchi are also producing for their banner Excellent Cadaver.

It’s a whodunit with a whole lot of drama. Jennifer Lawrence will get to feud, day-drink and access oodles of disposable income, at least until a body turns up, in “The Wives,” a murder mystery that is in the vein of “The Real Housewives.”
Apple Original Films acquired the project in what it is describing as a “highly competitive situation.” Lawrence will produce the film alongside Justine Ciarrocchi for her company, Excellent Cadaver. Tony and Independent Spirit Award nominee Jeremy O. Harris and Josh Godfrey will also produce the picture under their bb2 banner. It is currently in development, so no word on the final plot or when it might shoot.

Does Paul Walter Hauser ever sleep? He’s currently starring in Pixar’s biggest hit in years, Inside Out 2, and he’s attached to numerous films, including Fantastic Four, The Naked Gun, a Chris Farley biopic, Press Your Luck, and Doug Liman’s upcoming action comedy for AppleTV+ The Instigators. I’m sure there’s more, but let’s focus on the newest addition to his Hollywood dance card, Balls Up, an action comedy from Peter Farrelly co-starring Mark Wahlberg. Wahlberg and Hauser lead the film, with Farrelly directing. Amazon MGM is the studio.
Balls Up presents a curious plot. The story revolves around two American executives who get the boot for sabotaging a client sponsorship and decide to use their free tickets to a professional soccer match. After a few drinks too many, the duo finds themselves on the run while being hunted by every person across the country.

From the start of their careers, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon worked together as a stellar double act – from the heart-tugging Good Will Hunting, through several Kevin Smith adventures (most notably Dogma), and more recently in The Last Duel and Air. Now, they’re set to star together once more in a brawny crime thriller from a filmmaker who’s well-known for his… well, brawny crime thrillers. Make way for Rip, from director Joe Carnahan, with Affleck and Damon set to lead the cast.
As reported by Deadline, Affleck, Damon and Carnahan are currently shopping Rip around to find a distributor, and the film will go in front of cameras later in 2024. More details about the film’s plot are being kept tightly under wraps, but it comes from Affleck and Damon’s production company, Artists Equity, which previously brought us Air, and will soon deliver the Damon-starring The Instigators,...

Baby Reindeer (Netflix)
What makes this show addictive is also what makes it disturbing, devastating and occasionally funny: its brutal honesty. Richard Gadd’s account of stalking and abuse spares no one, least of all his semi-autobiographical stand-in. But it also finds empathy for imperfect victims and troubled perpetrators alike — the latter played by Jessica Gunning with ferocious commitment. — Angie Han
Extraordinary (Hulu)
In a TV landscape teeming with superpowered folks, this series stands out — and not just because its protagonist, Jen (Máiréad Tyers), is the rare adult in her universe without a special ability. Really a quarterlife coming-of-age comedy in genre packaging, the second season digs even deeper into its characters’ psyches to explore themes as relatable as sexuality and loss. — A.H.
Fantasmas (HBO)
A show that could only have come from Julio Torres, the surreal mind behind Los Espookys, Fantasmas follows a writer trying to avoid being evicted.

What a busy year this is proving to be for Doug Liman. Barely midway through 2024, the director is preparing to launch his second film of the year – hot on the heels of his well-received Jake Gyllenhaal-starring Road House remake (which Liman was vocally unhappy about receiving a streaming-only release on Prime Video), he’s back with another streaming action-comedy led by a Hollywood A-lister. This time, his leading man is Matt Damon, and the film is Apple TV+’s The Instigators – a Boston-set crime comedy, in which two reluctant criminals (Damon and Casey Affleck) attempt a heist to take down a corrupt politician. Check out the trailer here:
Damon doing his full Boston accent? An ensemble boasting Hong Chau, Michael Stuhlbarg, Paul Walter Hauser, Ving Rhames, Alfred Molina and Ron Perlman? Some dependably muscular action sequences from Liman? All point to a promising summer streaming flick. And given that...

Sequels are a given in Hollywood. If a movie is a massive hit—and sometimes even when it’s not—studios are eager to pounce on any opportunity to extend the brand into another film and sometimes even a whole series of them. Franchises and IP (intellectual property) are for better or worse the name of the game in Tinseltown, no matter how often critics and audiences seem to cry out for more original material at the multiplex.
The other thing about sequels is that Hollywood is a strange place that can either move at lightning speed or slow down to a pace of a glacier. While some follow-up films get placed on the fast track and can rocket into theaters in as little as two years, others get bogged down in that infamous existential swamp known as development hell.
So despite some of the announced sequels listed below being...

Word around the Hollywood water cooler is that Oppenheimer and The Fall Guy actress Emily Blunt is eyeing a role in Steven Spielberg’s next summer box office smasher. Amblin Entertainment and Universal are the studios, and the film is based on Spielberg’s story and a script by Jurassic Park’s David Koepp. Kristie Macosko Krieger is producing, with Emily Blunt possibly starring alongside another lead.
There are no plot details, but Universal plans to release the film on May 15, 2026, making it a box office barn burner to light up the summer. Word has it that Spielberg is a big Emily Blunt fan, and his admiration for her work dates back to when she starred in the Amblin-produced adaptation of The Girl on the Train. Exclusive: After earning an Oscar nomination for her work in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, Emily Blunt may have found her next job with a director who inspired not only Nolan but a generation of filmmakers. While a deal has not closed, sources tell Deadline that Blunt is in early talks to star in Steven Spielberg’s next film at Universal and Amblin, marking the first time the A-lister has worked with the iconic director.
The project is described as a two-hander, so Blunt would be playing one of the two leads in the project. Based on a story by Spielberg, the film has longtime Spielberg collaborator David Koepp penning the script, with Kristie Macosko Krieger producing.
Plot details have been kept under lock and key. Universal has dated the film for May 15, 2026, landing it in the summer tentpole zone Spielberg practically created with films like Jaws and Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Matt Damon is a desperate father and Casey Affleck, an ex-con pursued by the police and vengeful crime bosses, in the trailer for Doug Liman’s heist movie The Instigators, which dropped on Thursday.
“I got a once-in-a-lifetime score,” Rory, played by Damon, says early on in the trailer (below) as he teams with Cobby (Affleck) to rob a corrupt mayor (Ron Perlman) of his ill-gotten gains. But when their heist goes wrong, the duo are forced on a chaotic getaway.
In over their heads, Rory enlists his reluctant therapist, played by Hong Chau, to join their riotous escape through the city, where the inept thieves must put aside their differences and work together to evade capture — or worse.
The Instigators hinges on the on-screen chemistry between Affleck and Damon. In turn, Damon collaborated with Liman on The Bourne Identity franchise. The pic also reteams Damon, Affleck and producer Kevin Walsh...

Matt Damon does a heist in director Doug Liman’s latest thriller, The Instigators, which also co-stars Casey Affleck. Here’s the trailer:
The dust has begun to settle on director Doug Liman’s public altercation with Amazon MGM over the straight-to-streaming release of Road House. Months later, Liman has another thriller heading to a streaming service: this time it’s The Instigators, due on Apple TV+ soon.
This one’s co-written by Casey Affleck, who also stars alongside Matt Damon as a pair of criminals whose attempted heist goes horribly wrong. In the aftermath, a therapist (Hong Chau) gets swept up in their frantic escape from the cops.
The Instigators marks Damon’s reunion with Liman over two decades after they made the hit, franchise-starting thriller, The Bourne Identity. Their latest film together seems to have the same lightly comic touch as the recent Road House remake, which, a few caveats aside,...

Doug Liman is a director known for many things, but one of them, most notably here, is his unique and thrilling action flicks. Liman is a master at taking the most straightforward concept, putting random celebrities in it, and making it gold. In “The Instigators,” this seems no different.

Those who may be clamoring for a new Ocean’s film can somewhat get their wishes fulfilled this year with two movies featuring the Steven Soderbergh caper alums. While George Clooney and Brad Pitt reunite for some criminal hijinks in AppleTV+’s Wolfs, similarly, their fellow Ocean’s Eleven/Twelve/Thirteen co-stars also reunite for a crime comedy, which happens to be about a heist. Apple has just released the trailer for The Instigators, which finds Matt Damon and Casey Affleck attempting to rob a bigwig in Boston.
The official synopsis reads,
“Rory (Matt Damon) and Cobby (Casey Affleck) are reluctant partners: a desperate father and an ex-con thrown together to pull off a robbery of the ill-gained earnings of a corrupt politician. But when the heist goes wrong, the two find themselves engulfed in a whirlwind of chaos, pursued not only by police, but also backwards bureaucrats and vengeful crime bosses.

Matt Damon and Casey Affleck co-star in this crime comedy as Rory and Cobby: a desperate father and an ex-con thrown together to rob a corrupt politician's ill-gained earnings.
