Gaumont has added French-language action feature The Orphans starring Dali Benssalah, Alban Lenoir, Anouk Grinberg and Sonia Faidi, to its Cannes slate.
The film is the first feature from Olivier Schneider who has worked as stunt coordinator on films including No Time To Die, Spectre, Taken and Fast and Furious X. What does a transporter even do? In the "Transporter" action-thriller film series, Jason Statham plays Frank Martin, the titular transporter who acts as a driver-for-hire, who moves packages for selective clients without any questions asked. Martin is not your average transporter, as his impressive military background grants him an edge during combat, which is an inevitability when such high risk is involved. Martin strives to maintain a clearly defined double life with little to no overlap and expects his clients to adhere to his incorrigible personal code, which includes never altering the deal or opening client packages, and absolutely no names.
At first glance, the watch order for the "Transporter" series seems pretty straightforward, with four movies etching out Martin's arc and the shenanigans that ensue because of his unique occupation. However, for the sake of continuity, the release date order needs to be shifted around a bit, while one...

For its 75th edition, Switzerland’s Locarno Film Festival, long known as a global indie cinema temple, is looking to the future while repositioning itself as a forward-thinking hub for a wider range of movies, including studio and streamer titles, with broad audience appeal.
“We believe that entertainment can be both serious and fun: I don’t see an opposing scenario where entertainment is only cheap, and seriousness is only extremely highbrow,” says the fest’s artistic director Giona A. Nazzaro.
Now on his second edition at the fest’s helm, the Italian critic is putting his stamp on Locarno with a lineup that, along with straightforward auteur movies of various kinds, increasingly includes comedies and genre films. The fest’s eclectic nature is illustrated by t he choice of the opener, Sony ’s frothy action thriller “Bullet Train,” directed by David Leitch, which Aaron Taylor-Johnson will be tubthumping on Aug.

Italian critic Giona A. Nazzaro, artistic director of the Locarno Film Festival, has assembled what he defines as a “broad, diversified and inclusive program” for the 75th edition of the Swiss event, which will open with “Atomic Blonde” helmer David Leitch’s Brad Pitt-starrer “Bullet Train” screening on its 8,000-seat outdoor Piazza Grande.
The frothy U.S. action film is precisely the type of smart entertainment Nazzaro is becoming known for programming in this temple of European indie cinema, alongside smaller budget titles with more gravitas.

I not going to hide the fact I’m a huge Transporter fan, from the very first movie to the more recent, if little seen here in the UK, TV show, I’ve enjoyed [to various extents] each and every entry in the franchise. So, unlike some out there, I was not afraid to see the film series rebooted with a new star and a new story. And that’s what we get with The Transporter Refueled. My only worry was that no-one connected to the original films, apart from Luc Besson, had any part of this film… But then that was also the case with the series, and I really enjoyed that!

The newest model in the Transporter series is much the same as the previous versions, only with less wit and less cohesive action sequences. Not that the first three films were exactly paradigms of wit and cohesive action. Back in 2002, however, The Transporter felt relatively fresh, welding together Corey Yuen's action choreography with Luc Besson's European cool -- plus Shu Qi! Plus a befuddled François Berléand! -- to create a genuinely entertaining, international genre picture. As with many sequels, a downward trend became evident in subsequent installments, and the series appeared dead after it spawned a television spinoff. It's hard to find good getaway drivers, though, and the franchise has been reborn. With Jason Statham's exit, Ed Skrein (the erstwhile Daario Naharis from Game...

How do you rank perfection? Duncan has a go, as he lists the top 25 Jason Statham films...
For regular Den Of Geek readers, it will come as little surprise to see this list come round. We've chosen our favourite Statham films before, but such is the productivity of the great man, it was decided that a mere top ten was no longer large enough to contain his ever growing body of work. Last time I mentioned updating this piece to the man himself back in 2012 due to his insane workload, he cracked up and responded, “My productivity is overwhelming! 'Have a fucking day off!'”
Since this list has now expanded to encompass 25 of his movies, it seemed only right to include multiple sequels, with his big trio of action franchises all spawning some thoroughly entertaining fare worthy of mention, though I’ve tried to exclude the personal bias that...

TNT has picked up the U.S. rights to "Transporter: The Series," an international action drama based on the Luc Besson-produced film franchise about meticulous, skilled driver-for-hire Frank Martin, played by Jason Statham. British actor Chris Vance, who played "freelance psychopath" Mason Gilroy on "Burn Notice" and Dr. Jack Gallagher on "Mental," the short-lived 2009 Fox series set in L.A. but shot in Bogotá, stars as the small screen incarnation of Frank. François Berléand, reprising his role from the films as Inspector Tarconi, is also in the cast, alongside Andrea Osvárt, Delphine Chanéac and Charly Hübner. "Transporter: The Series" is a French-Canadian production, and was originally slated to air in the U.S. on Cinemax, though they ended up passing on the project -- a trailer that was released at the time but has since been taken down didn't look particularly promising. The first season has since aired in Canada,...

‘Tell No One’ thriller to get Hollywood remake (photo: ‘Tell No One’ 2006, with François Cluzet and Marie-Josée Croze) Gavin O’Connor, among whose credits are Tumbleweeds, Warrior, and the upcoming Natalie Portman action drama Jane Got a Gun, "is in negotiations" to direct Universal and Warner Bros.’ thriller Tell No One, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Whether the film will be a direct remake of Guillaume Canet’s Ne le dis à personne (2006), starring François Cluzet and Marie-Josée Croze, or be based on the original source — Harlan Coben’s novel Tell No One — is unclear. Canet and Philippe Lefebvre were credited for the screenplay of the French movie. Frequent Steven Spielberg collaborator Frank Marshall (The Color Purple, War Horse, Jurassic World) is producing the new Tell No One. Academy Award winner Chris Terrio (Argo) will be writing the adaptation. Curiously, Argo director Ben Affleck had been previously attached to this...

Chicago – There is a moment in Guillaume Canet’s “Tell No One” when protagonist Alexandre Beck (François Cluzet) is forced to run. The police are hot on his trail and have cornered him at his office, where he serves as a pediatrician. But before the cops burst through the door, Alex sails out his window, breaks his fall with a car roof and runs as fast as his feet can cary him.
This pulse-pounding moment occurs about midway through Canet’s 2006 mystery, and quickly unspools into one of the greatest sustained chase sequences in film history, proving that stunt work and in-camera effects will always trump any brand of digital trickery. Yet that is only one of countless highlights in this splendidly entertaining masterpiece of suspense. It was the sixth film distributed by Music Box Films, and ended up becoming one of their biggest hits, which is hardly surprising considering...

With all the unexpected movies we've seen being adapted for the small screen as of late, Luc Besson's The Transporter is one that actually seems quite well-suited for television. The original trilogy was comprised of no-nonsense action flicks made on a fairly limited budget and the premise is one that lends itself well to an episodic format. Cinemax has been in production on the first season of Transporter: The Series since last year, but they ran into a number of problems after the original showrunners left and the lead actor injured himself during an action sequence. That lead actor is not Jason Statham unfortunately, but rather Chris Vance, who is best known for roles on Prison Break and Mental. He seems to be back in action as the first trailer for the show has arrived online, and although it definitely looks like a step down from the films,...

A new trailer has been unveiled for the Transporter TV series. The Cinemax action drama will see Prison Break actor Chris Vance assume the role of extreme driver Frank Martin, played by Jason Statham in the original Transporter movies. French actor François Berléand - who played Martin's ally Inspector Tarconi in the Transporter films - will reprise his role in the series. The show, to air in the Us in late 2012, has suffered a troubled production. Original executive producers (more)...

Cinemax's TV adaptation of The Transporter has lost showrunners Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie. The pair left the project over creative differences after just three weeks of filming, according to Deadline. The Tudors producer Steve Shill will now take over showrunner duties, overseeing shooting on the action-drama's fourth and fifth episodes. Based on the Jason Statham film series, The Transporter will star Prison Break's Chris Vance as expert driver Frank Martin. François Berléand, who played Martin's cop ally (more)...

The Movie Network, a Canadian premium cable network, announced yesterday that production has begun on its new original series Transporter. Obviously, this TV series is based on the film franchise The Transporter starring Jason Statham.
The TV series will be extremely different from the film franchises.
Statham won't be in the leading role as Frank Martin, a freelance transporter who signs on for hit jobs from fishy clients. The leading man for this series, which is in production in Toronto, is Chris Vance (Prison Break).
As for the stories, Frank will still have his golden rules: never change the deal, no names and never open the package. Speaking about changes, Frank will have a handler, Carla (Andrea Osvart). She's a former CIA operative. She organizes his mission. Carla also acts as Frank's eyes and ears on the outside.

The new Transporter television series will remain "connected" to the original movie trilogy, according to executive producer Bernard Bouix. Prison Break star Chris Vance will play the role of expert driver Frank Martin in the series, the role originated by Jason Statham in the films. Chicago – It’s difficult to find a thematic trilogy with a conclusion as triumphant and potent as “Au Revoir Les Enfants.” The 1987 fact-based drama emerged as one of the great masterpieces in the career of Louis Malle, a giant of the French New Wave perhaps best known for his intimate two-character piece, 1981’s “My Dinner With Andre.” His films possess a purity and authenticity unmatched by many of his peers.
After a few critical and financial disappointments in America, Malle decided to get back in touch with his roots as a documentarian in the mid-80s (he won the Palme d’Or at age 24 for co-directing Jacques Cousteau’s “Le monde du silence”). Soon afterward, he returned to France and finally tackled the project he had promised to make once he was ready to do it justice. The plot of “Enfants” was directly inspired by an indelible memory from the director’s childhood.

Au Revoir Les Enfants / Goodbye, Children (1987) Direction and screenplay: Louis Malle Cast: Gaspard Manesse, Raphael Fejtö, Francine Racette, Stanislas Carré De Malberg, François Berléand, Philippe Morier-Genoud, Irène Jacob Oscar Movies, European Film Award Movies Highly Recommended Raphael Fejtö, Gaspard Manesse, Au revoir les enfants Synopsis: At a Catholic boys' school in occupied France, a snotty rich kid, Julien (Gaspard Manesse), slowly befriends an unusual newcomer, Bonnet (Raphael Fejtö), who happens to be a Jewish boy in hiding. The Pros: Unlike Roman Polanski's The Pianist and Steven Spielberg's Schindler's List, the two best-known movies about the persecution of Jews during the Nazi era, Louis Malle's Au revoir les enfants actually feels true to life. In Malle's autobiographical story, there are no movie heroes, no bullshit about the "triumph of the human spirit," and no one cries "I could have done more" or some such. Au revoir les enfants...

Understudy Andrei Simoniovich Filipov (Aleksei Guskov) is now just a simplistic cleaner of the grand Bolshoi Theatre in Russia, despite his past as a world-renowned composer. Discredited and shamed after the fall of Russia's communist regime - in combination with a general atmosphere of anti-Semitism - Filipov and his orchestra now find themselves marginalised in a society that once revered them; that is until Filipov accidentally stumbles upon a fax requesting the attendance of the apotheosized Bolshoi at the Châtelet Theatre in Paris.
For 30 years, Filipov has lived in intoxicated regret, trying and failing to forget the abruptly-interrupted Tchaikovsky violin concerto that tarnished his career all those years ago. Thanks to a moment of sheer stupidity and the undeniable friendship of his once lead-cellist, Aleksandr 'Sasha' Grosman (Dmitri Nazarov), Filipov decides to finally complete his performance of Tchaikovsky with his former Orchestra, now a bunch of shambolic boozers, by impersonating...

One night while mimicking the The Big Sleep verbatim, Bazil is caught in the crossfire of a shootout. At this moment, we dissolve into the opening credits of what seems to be a film within a film. So, it was announced as of April 2009, that Guillaume Canet's incredible French thriller Ne le dis à personne (Tell No One) will receive the ultimate Hollywood retouch. An English language remake. Not much was heard after that announcement, but now according to Variety magazine Miramax and Focus Features will be handling this one. Coming from the hands and mind of its French actor turned director Guillaume Canet, it was well received, reviewed, and loved by audiences across France. It is a complex thriller and mystery based on the novel by Harlan Coben, which follows a pediatrician who's spent several years grieving the death of his wife when he suddenly discovers she might still be alive after receiving a text message from her. Films on the cutting edge. That's how I would describe the 50 movies on this list. While some moviegoers may find it an 'alien' experience to refer to sub-titles in understanding what's happening on the big screen, a good number of audiences are totally enjoying the different and often surprising take by many foreign filmmakers, nothwithstanding the language barrier.
Content-wise, the 50 movies feature stories about war and peace, love and romance, family affairs, coming-of-age tales, cultural and religious diversity, social issues (including prostitution and abortion) and personal - celebrating life or facing death with dignity. The Girl Cut in Two (La Fille coupée en deux) is a French comedy directed by Claude Chabrol, starring actors Ludivine Sagnier, François Berléand and Benoît Magimel. The film revolves around two men who vie for the love of single, local TV weather girl 'Gabrielle Deneige'. Chabrol is noted as a core member of the 'French New Wave' group of filmmakers who first came to prominence in the late 1950's and early 1960's. Like French directors Jean-Luc Godard, François Truffaut, Éric Rohmer and Jacques Rivette, Chabrol also worked as a critic for film magazine Cahiers du Cinema before pursuing a career in movies. Often characterized as the most 'mainstream' of the New Wave directors, Chabrol at the age of 78, with The Girl Cut In Two, remains a prolific film-making auteur at the height of his 50-year career...

No, I still haven't seen Guillaume Canet's French thriller "Ne le dis à personne" (Tell No One), but I've heard great things about it, and I'll definitely try to watch it some time this summer. The film was a success in France and even delivered a solid box office run in the U.S., and according to Variety, Miramax and Focus Features are planning to develop an English language remake.
Apparently, the studios are eyeing a production start date of spring 2010. No director or cast is currently attached. It’s billed as a “Hitchcockian thriller,” but frankly I see nothing either Hitchcockian nor thrilling this same-old Gallic tale of an older man, the younger woman who adores him for no apparent reason (even as he insults her and treats her like a child), and the other, younger man who wants her and might possibly maybe do something violent to get her. If there’s satire in filmmaker Claude Chabrol’s tedious romantic roundrobin -- did I mention that the old man, a writer (François Berléand), is married, and so has at least one other woman on his mind? did I mention that the younger man (Benoît Magimel) has a dodgy history his with people he supposedly might be expected to love? -- I can’t see it. Is it supposed to be satirical that the girl (Ludivine Sagnier) has nothing to recommend her but dewey youth, uncomplicated beauty,...

Transporter 3by Eric Sloss, Writer Some movies you clearly have to leave your brain at the door before seeing them. There are things that are shown in these movies that are not humanly possible or probable for that matter. The Bond franchise is a good example of this type of filmmaking. The franchise more than makes up for it with a clever storylines, a strong male lead, beautiful women, exotic locales and memorable villains. The Transporter series can be looked upon in the same way. Fans have flocked to these movies mainly because of the ridiculous stunts and the charming Jason Statham. “Transporter 3” will clearly test the patience of even the most ardent of supporters. Jason Statham is back as Frank Martin. Martin transports cargo, whether it be human or otherwise, for a fee. He has certain rules that he follows. He doesn’t look to what he is transporting,...

Release is on November 26th with Olivier Megaton ("Exit," "The Red Siren") helming from the writing by Europa Corp boss Luc Besson as well as Robert Mark Kamen. The second film wasn't up to scratch quality-wise as far as the favorite first release, this however, may just redeem itself. The third film follows marting who has been pressured into transporting the kidnapped daughter of the Ukraine's Epa from Marseilles, Stuttgart and Budapest until Odessa on the Black Sea.
