Trailers make “Fly Me to the Moon” look cute at best, when in fact it’s quite clever: a smarter-than-it-sounds, space-age sparring match of the Rock Hudson/Doris Day variety, in which the honest-to-a-fault NASA launch director responsible for sending Apollo 11 into orbit (a straight-faced Channing Tatum) goes head-to-head with a mendacious Madison Avenue spin doctor. Set during the first half of 1969, director Greg Berlanti’s high-concept screwball comedy values chemistry over history, bending the facts to suggest a fresh set of stakes for the operation, where romance fuels a rocket to the moon.
For decades, questions have dogged the Apollo 11 project. Who really won the space race? Did NASA fake the moon landing? Story credit goes to Keenan Flynn and Bill Kirstein, as screenwriter Rose Gilroy takes these doubts and extrapolates them into what the film itself might call an “alternative version” of events — one that puts authenticity itself on the line.

To say that Stephen King has had an impressive career would be an insulting understatement. One of the most prolific authors ever, he has published nearly 70 novels and dozens upon dozens of short stories, many of which have been adapted for the screen over the years. But it turns out that even in the golden age of King adaptations spurred by the insane success of "It" in 2017, the author's favorite book hasn't yet been turned into a movie.
In a 2014 interview with Rolling Stone, King name-checked "Lisey's Story" as the best book of his storied career. That's no small thing. As for why? Here's what he had to say about it at the time:
"Lisey's Story. That one felt like an important book to me because it was about marriage, and I'd never written about that. I wanted to talk about two things: One is the secret world that people build inside a marriage,...

What's the best Jack Nicholson movie? Ask a group of film fans, and you'll likely get a half-dozen different answers. The actor's most historically significant movie may be "Chinatown," the sun-baked California noir from 1974 that earned 11 Oscar nominations and a permanent spot in the American Library of Congress' National Film Registry. Or it might be "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest," the beloved adaptation of Ken Kesey's novel that swept the Oscars in 1975 and turned the already-popular Nicholson into Hollywood's hottest commodity.
The actor's most popular films according to Letterboxd users are Stanley Kubrick's horror masterpiece "The Shining" and Martin Scorsese's crime saga "The Departed." His highest-grossing role at the box office came in 1989, when Tim Burton cast him as the rictus-grin supervillain The Joker in "Batman." Other popular moneymakers featuring the veteran performer include James L. Brooks' "As Good As It Gets," Nancy Meyers' "Something's Gotta Give,...

Mia Goth channeled her Stanley Kubrick fandom to prepare for “MaXXXine.”
Goth told Ireland’s Entertainment.ie journalist Brian Lloyd in the below video that she shadowed a sex worker before starring in Ti West’s conclusion to his trilogy love letter to classic Hollywood.
“I was living in New York at that time and I was introduced to a stripper and I spent quite a lot of time with that stripper and I would get to know her and I would ask questions and that was really helpful,” Goth said. “She would then take me to these events. One in particular, it was a crazy party in New York. It felt very much like ‘Eyes Wide Shut.’ I don’t know how I got in but I was like kind of in the corner witnessing everything. Once I felt like I got enough information, I went away because it was quite intense.

Das 41. Filmfest München läuft weiter auf Hochtouren. Was bietet Bayerns Hauptstadt abseits des Festivaltrubels? Wir haben Leute aus der Münchner Branche gebeten, uns Lieblingsplätze zu verraten. Hier antwortet Michael Hilscher von den Bavaria Studios.
Michael Hilscher (Credit: Bavaria)

Michael Mann has followed in the footsteps of Martin Scorsese and joined Letterboxd, the social media site that allows cinephiles to log and rate the movies they’ve seen. The “Miami Vice” director quietly made an account and posted his first list, which is titled “14 Favorite Films in no particular order (except Potemkin).” After singling out Sergei Eisenstein’s landmark silent epic “Battleship Potemkin” as his favorite film of all time, he highlighted 13 other films ranging from classic film noir and New Hollywood masterpieces to recent hits like “The Hurt Locker” and “Poor Things.” Mann’s 14 favorite films can be found below.

While last month saw typically dramatic actor/writer/director Viggo Mortensen share his TCM picks in honor of the release of his western romance film “The Dead Don’t Hurt,” the beloved channel has recruited a filmmaker with a more comedic voice to spearhead its July slate. Having produced for film and television since the early ’90s, Judd Apatow made his directorial debut in 2005 with the critical and cultural smash hit, “The 40-Year-Old Virgin.” He’s helped build the careers of Seth Rogen, Ben Stiller, Will Ferrell, Adam McKay, Kristen Wiig, and many others, while also honoring the careers of those who’ve passed with HBO documentaries “The Zen Diaries of Garry Shandling” and “George Carlin’s American Dream.”
Apatow’s first picks for the month harken back to his youth, with George Lucas’ coming-of-age hang-out flick “American Grafitti” (1973) airing on July 4 at 3:45am Et and Richard Brooks’ adaptation of Judith Rossner...

Stephen King movies have been a thing for nearly as long as the man has been writing best-selling novels. From "Carrie" the first feature film based on one of King's works, to the recent ill-fated remake of "Children of the Corn," these adaptations have run the gamut. King doesn't always throw his weight behind the projects and he famously was not a fan of Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining." But when King is a fan of a movie based on his work, he's happy to say so. That was the case with 2023's "The Boogeyman," a movie King vocally got behind. It turns out, the author's praise actually helped the cast and crew during production.
Director Rob Savage spoke with Entertainment Weekly ahead of the release of "The Boogeyman" last year and explained initially how he came to the project. Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, of "A Quiet Place" fame,...

A film becomes timeless through the symbiotic relationship between the actors who bring the characters to life, and the director who executes the narratives. In Hollywood, there have been many such iconic collaborations between filmmakers and stars that have resulted in some of the greatest and most memorable works.

The late Stanley Kubrick, who is considered one of the most revered directors in Hollywood, was also a very tough filmmaker to work with. When Steven Spielberg's "A.I. Artificial Intelligence" opened theatrically on June 29, 2001, it was freighted with impossible expectations. First of all, many cinephiles didn't consider it a Spielberg film. This was Stanley Kubrick's long-promised homecoming to the science fiction genre, which he'd revolutionized cinematically in 1968 with "2001: A Space Odyssey," and, even though he'd initially approached Spielberg about directing the project in 1985, the Hollywood hitmaker was viewed as a creative conduit of sorts.
This was especially true in the wake of Kubrick's unexpected death two years prior. "A.I." would likely be the last film Kubrick worked on extensively to go before the cameras. So while people were excited to see Spielberg's rendition of Kubrick's vision, the doubters were out there. Even with non-escapist masterpieces "Empire of the Sun" and "Schindler's List" in his filmography, some still considered him a sentimentalist.

Coralie Fargeat’s The Substance focuses on a woman with a familiar problem. Elizabeth Sparkle (Demi Moore) is a former actress and contemporary fitness guru on the wrong side of 40 for the entertainment industry, who, as represented here by Harvey (Dennis Quaid), wants to replace her with the next hot young thing. Working in an ultra-blunt style, Fargeat boils Elizabeth’s world down to a few signifiers, among them: Elizabeth’s retro fitness show stands in for fleeting fame; Harvey, one of the broadest caricatures that cinema has offered, is the male chauvinist underbelly of Hollywood, befitting his namesake; and a billboard outside of Elizabeth’s sprawling apartment physicalizes her shifting place in the public.
One of Fargeat’s best symbols, worthy of Billy Wilder’s Sunset Boulevard, is the opening close-up of Sparkle’s Hollywood star as it’s installed and becomes just another bit of set dressing. A...

The history of 20th century cinema knows a great number of really rewatchable gems that can amaze even the most cynical, but how many of them really hold up in 2024?
Here are 7 classic gems that pass the test of time, according to Reddit.
Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991)
“There’s like two effects that are obviously CGI because it’s 33 years old, but good lord the rest of it could have been made today,” claims Redditor @TheRoaringTide.
Indeed, this flick set the bar really high for sci-fi actions and didn’t become outdated at all.
Jurassic Park (1993)
Directed by Steven Spielberg, our favorite dinosaur movie presented groundbreaking computer-generated imagery with life-sized animatronics that are still considered convincing. Even its expensive modern sequels can’t beat the greatness of the original.
Alien (1979)
This sci-fi’s creature design and the timeless greatness of its female lead, Sigourney Weaver, are truly unique.

Mixed genres movies sometimes turn into actual gems. But we are not talking about similar bunch of them thrown together, like when it is a crime drama with thriller elements. What makes it interesting when the genres that are not so easy to mix are blended together.
For example, horror comedy is one of our favorites, and it does get a lot of praise. But there’s one subgenre that is totally underrated, and that is erotic thriller. Not everyone understands the power of such movies, probably thinking of it as some sort of 50 Shades franchise equivalent.
Here are 5 stunningly good thrillers in which sex serves not as a means of thirsty entertainment, but as a powerful narrative tool.

Hideo Kojima and Konami have not gotten along very well ever since he departed from the company in 2015 to venture on his own. Metal Gear is one of the earliest examples of the stealth game genre, and Kojima was the mastermind behind it. Kojima has not collaborated with Konami since his falling out, but he is going to be a part of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater in one way.
Kojima is a visionary when it comes to directing and writing video games; he is the Stanley Kubrick of the gaming world. He started his journey by joining Konami in 1986 and worked on some great games like Metal Gears, Zone of Enders, Snatchers, and Policenauts.

Matthew Modine, renowned for his role as Pvt. Joker in Stanley Kubrick’s Full Metal Jacket, recently took issue with Amazon Prime Video for altering the film’s iconic poster. The 1987 war film, helmed by the legendary director Stanley Kubrick, originally featured a French petite theatrical movie poster with a helmet inscribed with the phrase Born To Kill. Modine’s backlash began when he observed that Prime Video had removed the phrase from the poster, replacing it with a plain helmet. He expressed his dismay on X (formerly Twitter), stating, Who decided to remove ‘Born To Kill?’ Not only did they alter...

The director of The Vourdalak, Adrien Beau recommends six horror favorites.
Family is the ultimate encapsulation of society. It offers us a taste of the whole world, but at a molecular level – and is very convenient if you want to destroy the world via your storytelling. The Greeks knew it with their tragedies, and we’re still using it to this day.
The tale of The Vourdalak is about how a monster can destroy their relatives from within, feeding one by one on those they love the most. In our case it’s a fatherly, patriarchal figure who has transformed into something inhuman… but the horrible threat can come from elsewhere in the family unit.
Here, I share my five favorite horror films about that very topic…
Horror Featuring… The Father And Mother
Stanley Kubrick‘s The Shining, of course, is my definitive pick when it comes to fear of one’s father.

Here, I share my five favorite horror films about that very topic…
Horror Featuring… The Father And Mother
Stanley Kubrick‘s The Shining, of course, is my definitive pick when it comes to fear of one’s father.

With a film career that spans over four decades, Tom Cruise is arguably the biggest movie star of this generation. Cruise is associated with so many iconic film moments — the dance in “Risky Business,” the “need for speed” chant in “Top Gun,” and “Show me the money!” in “Jerry Maguire,” among many others — that it seems like he’s been a movie star forever.
He has been a critical darling through parts of his career but has mainly focused on blockbusters (acclaimed or not). He has received two Oscar nominations for Best Actor in “Born on the Fourth of July” (1989) and “Jerry Maguire” (1996) plus another as Best Supporting Actor in “Magnolia” (1999). Those are the three performances that provided him with Golden Globe wins. His other four nominations with the Hollywood Foreign Press were for “Risky Business” (1983), “A Few Good Men” (1992), “The Last Samurai” (2003) and “Tropic Thunder” (2008). Many of these roles...

Stories about deranged men on their way to seize power and prove themselves are nothing new in cinema history. You can recall such classic gems as Stanley Kubrick’s A Clockwork Orange (1971) or Martin Scorcese’s Taxi Driver (1976) in this respect.
These days, in the era of TikTok, these plots refer to so-called sigma male grindset films and are regarded as the typical movie buff’s favorites. There is a horror that is, presumably, the most notorious and most viral sigma flick of all time, as well as its lead.
The film’s plot revolves around a handsome investment banker living a successful life in New York City. He has it all, but wants more and more, and that’s why by night he leads a double life as a merciless serial killer, staying uncaught and still insatiable.

The late Stanley Kubrick was one of the greatest legendary directors of all time, having gifted to the cinema the likes of critically acclaimed pieces like 1968’s sci-fi/adventure 2001: A Space Odyssey and 1980’s horror-mystery The Shining. Being so experienced in his respective field, the filmmaker was also an incredibly paranoid human being when it came to his works.

This was especially displayed while he was partly working with Hollywood veteran mastermind Steven Spielberg, on his last film which was completed by Spielberg after his death. This was the sci-fi/fantasy A.I. Artificial Intelligence from 2001, and Kubrick appeared to be quite anxious after entrusting Spielberg with the task of directing the film.

When X2, the thrilling follow-up to X-Men (2000), burst into theaters in 2003, could anyone have predicted the everlasting impact it would leave on the superhero genre? Triumphantly applauded for its head-turning action sequences, compelling storyline, and strong script, Bryan Singer’s movie soared beyond mere entertainment to become a cultural touchstone.
Aside from its cinematic prowess, X2—starring Hugh Jackman & Alan Cumming—struck a deep chord with its empathetic nods to outcasts, teens, gays, and minorities. The latter’s praise for the film as one of the “gayest” projects he has worked on mirrors its nuanced approach, which co-writer David Hayter tackled with heartfelt intentionality, as he gladly shared in a recent TMZ interview.
A still from X2 | 20th Century Fox
Furthermore, X2’s underlying allegories of societal exclusion and the search for dignity & respect in adversity were deliberate strokes of writing genius, a meaningful allegory that even Ian McKellen could see from a mile away.

X2 or X2: X-Men United is one of the best mutant films of the Fox franchise. The sequel to the first X-Men film, it is based on the X-Men comics by Stan Lee. Praised for perfectly capturing the plights of mutant kind, drawing parallels to the injustice and prejudices present in real life, the film is poised by some as the perfect encapsulation of what the LGBTQ+ community goes through on a day-to-day basis.

However, when an X2 star made the same claims in a recent interview, fans did not react well and went on to berate him and others for drawing such conclusions. Even Stan Lee’s own words prove the actor is somewhat misinformed to make such a claim.

With the exception of "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" (and maybe "The Game"), David Fincher's oeuvre (including his television series "House of Cards" and the dearly missed "Mindhunter") collectively expresses a resoundingly dim view of humankind. He's not cruel about it, nor is he despondent; often, he seems darkly amused by the unfettered manifestation of our worst instincts, and the heights people can reach when they eschew inconvenient virtues like compassion and ethics.
Even when he gets a tad heavy-handed with his messaging, I'm glad a deep thinker and master cinematic craftsman like Fincher is out there exploring our tendency to become our worst selves. He's certainly been swamped with potential inspiration over the last decade, and, given his technical expertise, one subject I'd love to see him tackle is the use of AI as not just as a creative cog, but a full-blown engine. There's an obvious...

Hollywood has been renowned for figures like Stanley Kubrick whose extreme, almost cruel, attitude invaded movie sets, affecting crews and actors to the point of torture. Unconfirmed stories about the infamous director’s alleged abuse have littered the society papers and historical records from his time and disgruntled stars have lived to tell the tale via op-eds and interviews through the decades.
Stanley Kubrick [Photo: Phillip A. Harrington, Sadler’s Wells Theatre in London, 1949]However, the most popular piece of pop-culture myth about Stanley Kubrick revolves around his supposed obsessive-compulsive need for endless takes of a single scene until he obtained the desired result. As rumor would have it, these takes often racketed up to a number as high as 127.
While the psychological after-effects of such incidents would go on to shape the lives of the director and his actors, one thing was for sure: Stanley Kubrick was no perfectionist but he was certifiably a genius with a method behind his madness.

If the Star Wars franchise is considered one of the greatest film series of all time in Hollywood, the credit goes to its creative mastermind George Lucas. The visionary director pioneered a sci-fi revolution with the epic space saga that spanned multiple decades to become a cult classic that will continue to remain evergreen for years to come.

George Lucas directed the original Star Wars movie, which launched the epic space opera saga in 1977. The film earned Lucas critical and commercial, spawning a franchise that has become a pop culture sensation. The filmmaker later returned to direct the entirety of the prequel trilogy of the franchise.

John Ford’s classic Western “The Searchers” is back on the big screen — and this time, in 70mm.
IndieWire can exclusively unveil the full lineup for Museum of the Moving Image and Mubi’s ninth annual “See It Big: 70mm” film festival, with “The Searchers” headlining. The annual summer 70mm series is New York City’s only festival of 70mm films. The festival takes place from July 18 through August 18.
Ford’s “The Searchers” in 70mm will make its East Coast premiere after the print debuted at the American Cinematheque earlier this year. From July 18-21, the 1956 masterpiece will be presented seven times in a new restoration and newly struck 70mm print. The film was scanned from the original 35mm VistaVision camera negative for this print and has been approved by The Film Foundation, which was founded by Martin Scorsese. (He’s credited “The Searchers” for being a direct influence on his Oscar-winning film “Taxi Driver.

The inaugural United States moon launch in 1969 is, of course, still highly contested by conspiracy theorists, and then there was that rumor for years that the moon launch was actually faked, and the great Stanley Kubrick was hired to direct it and make it look real and authentic. That idea forms the genesis for “Fly Me To The Moon,” a new comedy about the backup plan to fake the moon landing in case the actual space mission went awry.

One of the central conceits in one of Stanley Kubrick’s most popular works will be restored on Prime Video after mysteriously disappearing. There has been an uproar in the past few days when the helmet in the poster for Full Metal Jacket appeared without the phrase “born to kill” on it, fueled by a social post by the actor who wore the helmet in the movie, Matthew Modine.
As of midday Wednesday, the altered art was still up on the movie’s Prime Video landing page. Following inquiries by Deadline to both Amazon and Full Metal Jacket distributor Warner Bros., the updated poster was replaced by a still from the movie.

In honor of her receiving this year’s AFI Life Achievement Award, Nicole Kidman is being celebrated with a career retrospective at Nashville’s non-profit film center, The Belcourt, starting next week. Having undergone extensive renovations and preservations in 2016, The Belcourt is now one of Nashville’s most beloved homes for the arts, attracting audiences from all over Tennessee and the Southeast region, as well as visitors from across the country and globe. The theater programs over 300 films a year across 4,500 screenings, some of which feature Q&As with filmmakers and scholars.
Born in Hawaii, but raised in Australia, Kidman made her feature acting debut at the age of 16 and has been working steadily ever since. If you were looking to rent or buy Stanley Kubrick’s Full Metal Jacket on Amazon Prime, you might find yourself wondering if Private Joker was truly “Born To Kill” after all, as his helmet sarcastically says. That’s because the streamer has pulled a move that will make you angrier than R. Lee Ermey: they have removed that slogan from the promotional art.
This alteration caught the attention of Matthew Modine himself, who played J.T. “Joker” Davis in Full Metal Jacket. Taking to social media, the actor wrote: “Who decided to remove “Born To Kill?” Not only did they alter a piece of iconic art by Philip Castle, but they completely misunderstood the point of it being there. Pvt. Joker wears the helmet with “Born To Kill” and the peace button as a statement about “the duality of man.””

Stanley Kubrick‘s 1980 masterpiece, The Shining, is a psychological horror classic that has left an indelible mark on the genre. Based on Stephen King‘s 1977 novel of the same name, the film follows the Torrance family – Jack (Jack Nicholson), Wendy (Shelley Duvall), and their son Danny (Danny Lloyd) – as they take up residence at the isolated Overlook Hotel during the off-season. The father, a struggling writer, becomes unhinged by the hotel’s dark past and supernatural forces, descending into madness and putting his family in grave danger. As the family’s grip on reality begins to slip, the Overlook Hotel’s...

Rules are made to be broken. Probably this belief is the main reason why so many creative things happen in the world. Especially we love how the movie industry changes thanks to it: the genres get mixed, the stories get more and more complicated, and the outcome is often very unpredictable.
One of the gifts of creative thinking is definitely the existence of dark comedies, and we think whoever is responsible for their creation is a genius. So here is the list of the 5 best dark comedies that may or may not feel guilty about laughing at.
1. Dr. Strangelove (1964)
One of Stanley Kubrick’s most popular movies is considered to be this one, and it also works as sort of a staple for the dark comedy genre. It’s interesting though that the inspiration to create this movie came to Kubrick out of fear of nuclear destruction… So he decided...

A powerful statement of intent from first time feature director Sofia Alaoui, and deserving winner of the New Visions award at Sundance, Animalia opens with a series of gorgeously framed symmetrical shots, exterior and then interior, which recall the work of Stanley Kubrick. They’re beautiful partly because of the house they depict, an elegant lakeside Moroccan mansion, but as we’ll soon see, they provide only a taster of what Alaoui can do. They depict a life not only wealthy but perfectly ordered, every detail where it is intended to be. Only Itto (Oumaima Barid) is out of place, attracting scowls from her mother in law when she is caught in the kitchen, chatting to the servants, getting raw meat on the sleeves of her orange silk robe.

When you get the opportunity to interview Rob Reiner and Albert Brooks together it is indeed a special occasion. And that is just what I got to do earlier this week when they joined me at our Deadline Studio for this episode of my Deadline video series, Behind The Lens. Reiner has directed and appears with Brooks in the ultimate documentary (Reiner’s first) on Brooks entitled Albert Brooks: Defending My Life which is available on HBO and Max, and for fans of both it is a gem not to be missed. Our half hour conversation is not only hilarious in parts, but also eye-opening and full of some very surprising revelations. Check out a 2 minute preview where Brooks explains to me just how he and legendary director Stanley Kubrick became friends when Kubrick geeked out on Brooks’ film, Modern Romance. On June 13, 1980, Warner Bros. bowed Stanley Kubrick’s psychological horror film The Shining in theaters nationwide. The film, starring Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall, went on to gross $47 million and endure perpetually as one of the titles routinely mentioned as among the scariest movies of all time. The Hollywood Reporter’s original review is below:
After viewing Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining, I find myself wishing that Kubrick, like Graham Greene, would let us know when he’s being serious and when he’s merely providing us with “an entertainment.” The main problem that I had with this Warner release, based on Stephen King’s popular novel, is that I couldn’t decide whether Kubrick was trying to impress the hell out of us with all of his juggling of time, or simply trying to scare the hell out of us as Jack Nicholson runs berserk with an ax. Transitioning from a period of monochromatic to color television and then taking leaps with technology, the latter half of the ‘90s saw the rise of several acclaimed franchises. Additionally, the constant push to compete and the near-limitless creative options brought over by new cameras and gears helped filmmakers usher in an era of pioneering.
Among the top visionaries of this period, Steven Spielberg stands as a hallowed persona for his immense contribution to the arts as well as to modern cinema.

Spanning across genres, the director’s works knew no bounds as he published one masterpiece after another, including the likes of Jurassic Park, Schindler’s List, Jaws, and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. Moreover, each of his projects took a step forward in expanding the boundaries of cinematic possibilities, making several franchises of today stand by adapting to those techniques.

Fairy tales are the source of many of our favorite fantasy films and tropes. The classics like Snow White, Hansel & Gretel, and Sleeping Beauty have led to some fantastic feature films and many of them crossed into the horror genre, mixing the fantasy with a hefty dose of blood. The original stories that the fairy tales we grew up with came from were not the spic and span Disney fare we would read. They were dark, gritty stories that, more often than not, revolved around a horrible death or two.
They were morality tales guaranteed to make a child’s or an adult’s blood run a bit colder and scare them into listening. One of the most terrifying and cautionary of these tales was Little Red Riding Hood. Not only did the story include a young woman in danger, but it also involved a werewolf who eats her grandmother,...

We bet that the name of Stanley Kubrick is mostly associated with his science fiction epic 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968), the brutal A Clockwork Orange (1971) or, finally, the Stephen King-adapted horror masterpiece The Shining (1980) in your mind.
However, there is a lesser known movie that was written and directed by the master that is also worth a watch. Unlike the mentioned titles, it appears to be a noir crime film, and, back in 1956, it was a genre sensation that paved the way for modern heist flicks.
The plot of this movie revolves around Johnny, a veteran criminal who is attempting to perform one last heist before marrying and settling down. That’s why he invites a group of people of completely different occupations to help him on an elaborate robbery.

Practical Magic is a film revolving around the magically gifted sisters, Sally and Gillian Owens, played by Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman. The fantasy romance drama was based on the namesake book by Alice Hoffman and saw the sisters use magic to destroy the evil spirit of Gillain’s abusive boyfriend, Jimmy Angelov, played by Goran Visnjic.

The Simpsons is truly one of the most brilliantly-written animated series ever created. Having been on the air since 1989, it has covered so many different but equally amazing storylines that no other show can boast of.
Everyone knows that The Simpsons is also a show that somehow predicted many things that would happen in reality long before they actually did, but today we are going to talk about something else that the show did and still does perfectly.
The Simpsons is a show that has some sort of pop culture reference, if not in every episode, then definitely in a bunch of them every season. And here we have 5 of them that have aged like fine wine.
1. The Shining
Every season of The Simpsons has a special episode called Treehouse of Horror, and in season 6 it went all the way using Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining as a script for the episode.

Christopher Nolan is one of the definitive filmmakers of this generation. The Oscar-winning director recently made the biopic Oppenheimer, which won big at the Academy Awards this year. The director is known for his blockbuster films, which are as cerebral as they are thrilling and have garnered a loyal worldwide fanbase.
Nolan has also been a vocal supporter of other films. While he has professed his love for Stanley Kubrick, he has also appreciated films that are not considered high art such as the Fast and the Furious franchise. However, one film that reportedly blew his mind was Emma Stone’s 2016 musical La La Land, for which she won her first Academy Award.

Most discussions of Stanley Kubrick's 1971 sci-fi satire "A Clockwork Orange" eventually allude to the film's copious violence. The film's protagonist, Alex DeLarge (Malcolm McDowell) is an amoral 15-year-old delinquent who sees the world as the kindling to ignite the furnace of his drug-laced, sex-crazed, bloodthirsty appetites. He spends his days skipping school, and his nights leading his street gang, the Droogs, into various brutal misadventures. The Droogs pummel other gangs, beat up homeless people for no reason, and even invade people's homes to commit sexual assault.
For Alex, there is nothing else in the world besides his capacity to destroy it. When he listens to his favorite piece of music — Beethoven's Ninth Symphony — his mind disappears into a pit of depravity. He imagines himself as a gleeful vampire. Later in the film, when he reads the New Testament, he can most closely relate to the Roman soldiers whipping Christ.

In the wake of a slow return to production post WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, industry contraction, and an extended M&a deal for a major studio that has kept the whole town on pins and needles, Hollywood really needs a break. Creatives and executives alike were hoping for a boost in the form of a strong summer box office, but after almost every blockbuster released in the last month failed to meet expectations, a panic that’s been in place for a while now refuses to relent. As the traditional process of producing and distributing film and television hurdles towards oblivion, the best thing one can do is take a step back and gain some perspective. Ironically enough, I believe the best place to do this is actually… at a movie theater. Just not the kind you’re probably thinking of.

Back in 1990, soon after his divorce from Mimi Rogers, fans found the perfect ship as the next best power couple in Hollywood: Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman. A pair like one made in heaven, these two lovebirds were seen together almost everywhere and fans couldn’t help but swoon looking at them being so in love with each other.
But then something went wrong, and this ship crashed.

While that came as a devastating blow to his fans, friends, and family, it seems that Cruise was even more heartbroken by how the course of events had turned out for him and his now ex-wife back in the day.
In fact, if anything, the heart-rending way he responded to questions about their split during interviews perfectly sums up the love and utter respect he had for Kidman in his heart.

The strongest viewership of Netflix’s Bridgerton proved people still rave about period titles and, in particular, intricate stories, set in the 18-19th centuries. Besides, before the success of this series, we saw such gems of the 2010s, as Mia Wasikowska’s Jane Eyre (2011), Nicole Kidman’s The Beguiled (2017) and Saoirse Ronan’s Little Women (2019).
However, there is a female-led period movie that stands out among all of them. Back in 2018, it amazed the audience by its perfect mix of black comedy elements, deep drama, impeccable acting performances and quite an authentic atmosphere and tone.
Set in the early 18th century during the long war of England against France, the movie starts by introducing us to Queen Anne, who is in poor health and isn’t interested in governing at all. The one who is really into it is Sarah Churchill, her advisor and lover.
