Where does Vergil fit in DMC4SE?

This may look like I'm overthinking things. I know the Trish & Lady campaign is not cannon and more of a "what if" scenario, but Vergil's cutscenes are supposed to be cannon from a time he visited Fortuna.

However, the opening scene states that happened a few decades ago, which would make it impossible for Vergil to be 19/20 in DMC3 or for Dante to be 29/30 in DMC4 (As would be Vergil).

Is this just a writing error or was the timeline changed?

After DmC, I would take any DMC with Vergil full of plot holes. Best not to dig into these things.
