Don't spend too much time early on doing all the side areas... Advance the main plot, too. I finished all the sides areas before moving to the main story missions and now I've got a ton of hours long war table missions that have popped up and very few ways to kill time outside of doing story missions. I'm going to end up picking up a few missions and then playing a new character while I wait for them to finish, especially considering some of these missions are part of companions stories.

this is likely why that other guy made a thread on war table missions being 48 hours long lol. I've been doing story missions and side stuff. So far i have just completed the Hinterlands, Storm coast, Crestwood and some of the forbidden oasis. Storywise i am at Skyhold just having completed meeting the warden stroud in Crestwood.

That's about where I'm at. I've got a ton on missions at the war table. Gonna have to start spreading stuff out.

The best way to do the war table I've found is to do the faster missions while you're playing, and do the long ones right before you quit playing for the day. By the time you come back the next day, they're done. Some may take longer than that even, and you'll still be waiting, but there aren't THAT many of that length. It still greatly boosts the speed/efficiency with which you'll get stuff done.

Amen. I did this my first time. I did the Hinterlands, Storm Coast, Fallow Mire, and Forbidden Oasis before even going to Val Royeaux my first time lol. I was goin',"where the fuck is the rest of my party?" as I was stuck with Varric, Solas, and Cass for I don't even know how many hours at the beginning(30+ for sure). I think it's best to go to Val Royeaux asap because that at least opens up the rest of the squad. I wouldn't do any more mq past the mage/templar part though. I'd say don't do In Your Heart Shall Burn until you've done all you want in the Hinterlands(besides the dragon of course), Storm Coast, and Fallow Mire. The reason is a whole slew of new areas opens up at after IYHSB, and then you'll just be overwhelmed with unexplored areas. Plus, those earlier areas are for lower level parties. They will be worthless from an xp/loot perspective if you come back later on, and also combat is just boring when you're over leveled for an area. Save Emerald Graves, Hissing Waste, and Emprise du Lion for last as they are the highest level areas.

That's how I've been going about it this run, and it's been way WAY better. Staying within the area scaling much better.

War Map missions is why many people recommend playing offline for a while and adjusting your system clock. Game goes off your system's personal clock and, as long as you're offline, you can knock out all your War Map quests in 5 minutes and a few restarts of the game.

Yeah, I started doing this near the end... I would adjust the clock on my PC to finish them faster... Felt a bit like cheating, but oh well. If they didn't take hours to complete for some minor influence or an item I don't need, I wouldn't feel the need to do it.

I made this mistake as well. The only side quest I have left is that wedding ring one in the Oasis. I decided to have my guys tackle all the short missions first while I goof around on the internet, now I just wait for the long stuff to finish. I may start another character like someone else mentioned.

Well I cant avoid doing sidquests in games like Dragon Age Origins or even Kingdoms of Amalur when the sidequests pop up like every second when you're doing one.

I cant help it lol. Its Bioware's fault for making the games fun which you arent fond of or whatever

Or you can go into your consoles' settings and move the day up by 1, and immediately have every activated mission completed. I don't have enough time in my life to just wait or play this game in an almost micro-transaction state if I'm stuck with two 12+ missions that I want to do with the same specialist and have to access them over the potential span of 2-3 days.

So fuck that, I can live with my PS4 thinking that it's March, 13th for an hour or so.

I wish they had made a companion app for iphone/android that allows you to manage the war table without booting up the game. This would allow me to assign new operations as soon as each one is completed.
