I don't think that there are any purpose to doing them but it's best that you do if you are aiming to master the courses though. The sponsor ones reward you with more gear but the training ones and the Masters sponsor challenges only reward you with more XP.

Training challenges also reward you with XP Points, but very minimal. They are usually good just to get a feel of the course. But once you've mastered most of the courses, you can skip them like I do

One other thing to note is that with the 'high profile' courses, you sometimes need to play the training if you're going to simulate the first round otherwise you get cut. That's if you've set your AI difficulty to high
