I haven't completed it yet, but so far, at worst, the story is intriguing.
One thing to note is that it is much better than the demo would have you think. The shift idea is not as restrictive as in the demo; indeed, it's a fantastic feature and not so much a gimmick, allowing multiple way's in which to complete certain objectives.
Driving wise it's familiar, though more refined than previous Driver games.
There are some great nods to famous movies chases, which you can re-enact in some challenges.
The car selection is fantastic. Much more than I'd anticipated (I don't know if a full list was revealed before release.) Well detailed, faithful and with varying characteristics that mean each car feels and sounds different.
Depending on the length of the story mode, this has turned out to be a good purchase. (I am a stickler for single-player story modes. They should be the main focus) There is some filler as you'd expect, certain driving missions or 'Dares' like smashing objects in a certain amount of time, or checkpoint racing etc, but these are not critical to the story; nor are they that tame.
But, you have to have things like this in a Driver game, because of what it is, not being an open-world multi-functional game like GTA for example, you need things to keep occupied.
All-in-all I am suitably impressed. The most I have been from any of the Driver series.
