IOC announced earlier that Russia was banned from the Olympics but athletes could compete under a neutral flag. KHL said a few weeks back that they'd pull their players from participating if this was the case.

The hockey tournament is going to be pretty terrible now with no NHL or KHL. I wonder how Canada and the US are going to fill their teams.

I could see the top 3 being Finland/Sweden/Czech

All their best non-NHL players are in Russia too. Especially goalies.

Switzerland is probably one of the better countries now as most of their non-NHL talent stays home.

Canadians will fill their teams with Canadians.

Americans will fill their teams with Americans.

Next question.

?? Where (as in, what leagues and programs) will these players come from, is the question at hand. The nhl and khl won’t send players. The chl doesn’t want its best players going to a second tournament after losing them for the u20s. So the pickings are... Canadian has-beens and never-weres playing in European leagues other than the Khl? Elite talents like Ryan Lasch and Derek Roy. That’s the point of the op’s rhetorical question - “how low down the talent ladder are we forced to go now that even the league that employs Linden Fucking Vey as its best Canadian is going to refuse players’ leave for Olympic participation.”
