hi again.

This is the first update to the FAQ I made a while ago. So I guess it's something like PSO FAQ 1.1 or version 2 or whatever. Hope everyone enjoys the new additions.

Getting Started

Here is a really nice beginning FAQ created by one of our community members, [link=http://users.ign.com/about/jrodri07]jrodri07[/link]. It's a great read to get yourself familiarized with the PSO online environment. Plenty of great pics and information.

Phantasy Star Online: Episode 1 & 2
For Microsoft XBOX

- PSO Character Name & Section ID Guide -

Created by kyodaimaru on 4/16/03

-------------------------------------------------
5 steps to getting any name you want with any section ID you want in XBOX PSO.

****WARNING: AS FAR AS I KNOW THIS ONLY WORKS FOR THE XBOX VERSION BECAUSE THIS IS A GLITCH HAVING TO DO WITH XBOX LIVE ITSELF****

This is really simple, no section ID calculator required:

1. Create a character for online play and name it one of the following to get the specific section ID that you want:

Pinkal: 0 v5.0 (there is a space between the "0" and "v")
Redria: 1 v5.0
Oran: 2 v5.0
Yellowboze: 3 v5.0
Whitill: 4 v5.0
Viridia: 5 v5.0
Greenill: 6 v5.0
Skyly: 7 v5.0
Bluefull: 8 v5.0
Purplenum: 9 v5.0

2. After you hit "ok" you will go through the voice mask screen and then the HL agreement screen. You'll start to connect to XBL but then an error message will pop up on screen that reads:

"(No.309)
This character name cannot be used on Xbox Live. Press A to use the Character Select screen to rename your character."

When you hit A it saves your character information and takes you to the "Game Mode Select" screen.

3. Choose either "Online Game" or "Offline Game" and select your new character and then select "change name" from the prompt list.

4. The next screen will be the "rename" screen and allow you to change your character's name so that you can play on XBL. Now here comes the good part. . .you can name your character whatever you like and it won't change your section ID!

5. Get online and play with your new character.

**I've checked this for every section ID and it works every time without fail.

The Classes

This is a run-down of the 12 different character classes you can choose from in Phantasy Star Online. Use the stats and weapon selections for each class to pick a character that you think suits your playing style the best.

For the stat listings below, the number to the left is the character at level 1. The number in the middle is the character at level 200 with no units, mats or mag levels. The number to the right is the highest you can get the stat with the aforementioned items.

Also, it's been brought to my attention that the HP/TP maxes are off. One of my friends who has characters of high level has told me he's already surpassed the TP totals listed below for both RAmarl and FOmar. I'm not quite sure how to respond to this, since I'm not clear on exactly how you gain tp (specifics for level ups, mst amount, D: ). Also, the number listed below for HP is HP at level 200. You can feed your characters 125 HP mats over that, so just add 250 to your characters HP at level 200, and you should get the max. Hopefully. :l

Hunters: The hunters have the highest attack potential of all the classes. They specialize in close range combat, using mostly melee weapons like sabers, swords, daggers and partisans. As strong fighters, hunters are mostly in the front lines, and therefore give and receive the most damage.

Rangers: The rangers have the highest accuracy potential of all the classes. They specialize in long range combat, using ranged weapons like handguns, shots, rifles and mechguns. A ranger's role in team play is usually peppering the enemies with support fire, giving the hunters room to breathe while in the front lines.

Forces: The forces have the highest mind potential of all the classes. They specialize in technique (spells) usage. Forces have access to every technique in the game, and more powerful versions of them at that. Their role in team play is mainly to support the other classes with support spells like shifta (attack increase), deband (defense increase), and resta (healing), but higher level forces can really be a threat with hard hitting attack techs.

Section ID's

Section ID's determine what rare items you will find. The Section ID you receive when you first create your character is final, so be sure to research what you want prior to starting your character. Your assigned Section ID is entirely dependent on the characters you use (a, b, c, 1, 2, 3, etc.) for your character name, so experiment with capitalization and spacing to get an ID you want. Remember that there is a 12 character limit when creating your name, so get the ID you want within 12 characters.

Now, for the section ID's and their weapon series strengths. Most of the ID's have a primary strength, and then a weaker secondary strength. The series listed first in the list below is the ID's main strength.

VIRIDIA: Strong in Shots and Partisans
GREENNILL: Strong in Rifles and Daggers
SKYLY: Strong in Swords and Rifles
BLUEFULL: Strong in Partisans and Rods
PURPLENUM: Strong in Mechguns and Daggers
PINKAL: Strong in Wands and Partisans, with an increased occurrence of Technique Disks
REDRIA: Strong in Slicers and Shots, with an increased occurrence of Armor and Units
ORAN: Strong in Daggers, and tied secondary in Swords and Wands
YELLOWBOZE: Equally strong in all weapon areas, with an increased occurrence of Meseta
WHITILL: Strong in Slicers and Mechguns

Recommended ID's for Classes:
Hunters: SKYLY, ORAN, BLUEFULL, REDRIA
Rangers: PURPLENUM, VIRIDIA, GREENNILL, WHITILL
Forces: PINKAL, REDRIA, YELLOWBOZE

Sonic Team (ST) has also decided to get a little creative it seems, and went crazy with the lobbies interior design style. Every Lobby has a corresponding Section ID. They are in the same order as the ASCII script which determines Secion ID (Add the ASCII number of the letters together, and pick the 2nd digit). There are 10 in total. There is also a different scenery item for each lobby. Around Holidays (Christmas, Easter, Halloween), the items may change. During the Holidays, all lobbies have the same item.

Lobby [color=c9c1c2]0[/color]2 - GREENNILL - Flowers & Butterflies

Yeah.......there's way too much information on mags for me to even try to put down here. So I'm going to cop out and just post a bunch of links. :D

Tekking

Tekking is a great thing if used wisely. Tekkers can turn useless weps into monsters if given enough time and money. With tekking, you have to keep two things in mind: Percents never go higher or lower than 10 percent of the original percent values, and you'll be able to get at most 3 attributes out of a weapon. For example, A ??? Calibur with the percents of 0/10/0/5 will only be tekked within a range of 0/0/0/-5 and 0/20/0/15. I've never in all my times playing PSO seen percents go higher or lower than 10% of the original values. Any tekker has the ability to give the best percents, just some may take longer than others. Be persistent and patient, and the percents will come.

Now for weapon attributes. Most people scuff at the "rare" nine star gold series weapons, but they can be some of the best to use during ult. A charge vulcan with hit percents will own any ult enemy, and it's not even yellow texted. Imagine that. Anyway, I've seen the same 1 above 1 below trend with the attributes as I have with percents. You'll have a middle attribute when tekking, and you can either get one level higher or one level lower than that attribute. For example, let's you tek a ??? Raygun and it turns out to be a Shadow Raygun. You retek and get a Dark Raygun (one level higher than Shadow). You retek again in the hopes of getting a Hell attribute, but get a Dim Raygun. Shadow is the middle attribute, so the highest attribute you can receive on that item is Dark. It's worked this way for me everytime I've ever tekked something. I've never seen a weapon tekked that has spanned all 4 attributes. There are exceptions to this rule. I've found that in the charge/spirit/berserk series you get what you get the first time tekked. So if you get a Spirit Berdys the first time tekked, you're going to get a Spirit Berdys no matter how many times you retek.

Here's a list of attributes a weapon can receive. Don't take them for granted. Some of them work wonders.

Elemental and Status Attributes

With these attributes, the higher the level, the more likely the weapon is to deal the elemental damage/status change.

Fire Elemental:
Heat - Fire - Flame - Burning

Lightning Elemental:
Shock - Thunder - Storm - Tempest

Freeze Condition:
Ice - Frost - Freeze - Blizzard

Paralysis Condition:
Bind - Hold - Seize - Arrest

Confuse Condition:
Panic - Riot - Havoc - Chaos

Instant Death Condition:
Dim - Shadow - Dark - Hell

Draining Attributes

These attributes steal HP/TP/EXP from the enemy. Very useful.

HP Drain:
Draw - Steals 5% HP
Drain - Steals 9% HP
Fill - Steals 13% HP
Gush - Steals 17% HP

TP Drain:
Heart - Steals 3% TP
Mind - Steals 4% TP
Soul - Steals 5% TP
Geist - Steals 6% TP

EXP Drain:
Master's - Steals 8% EXP
Lord's - Steals 10% EXP
King's - Steals 12% EXP

Other Attributes

These attributes are among the best. Cherish weapons found with these attached to them.

Fury Attributes:
Charge - Uses 200 meseta to double damage
Spirit - Uses TP to double damage
Berserk - Uses HP to double damage

Demi Attributes:
Devil's - Cuts enemy HP in half
Demon's - Cuts enemy HP to one fourth

Now the fun part is getting the percents you want AND the attribute you want. u__u

Enemy Parts and Weapons

Throughout the course of the game, you may find body parts of fallen enemies. These can be formed into weapons by Dr. Montague in one of two offline quests; Dr. Osto's Research and Unsealed Door. To get Dr. Montague to convert parts for you, complete the following quests, and make sure you have ruins opened for the difficulty you are playing.

* Battle Training
* Claiming a Stake
* Magnitude of Metal
* Secret Delivery
* Doc's Secret Plan

Once you finish Doc's Secret Plan, he will tell you he can make a weapon if you bring him materials. Take your material into Dr. Osto's Research and Dr. Montague will be walking around on P2 between the Medical Center and the warp to the Principal's Office. Talk to him and, after some pleasantries, he will take your material and make you a spiffy, new weapon out of it.

Soul Eater Guide

Getting the Soul Eater requires you to complete a number of offline quests, but not all of them. Two beneficial side effects of this are that you'll level up a bit and, if you follow the steps in order, you'll also unlock Dr. Montague so he'll convert parts for you. You'll get 2 shots at him in this guide. Now, to get down to it.

1. Complete Forest, Caves and Mines offline. Remember to go see the principal after completing the Mines.

2. Complete the following quests:
[blockquote]* Battle Training
* Claiming a Stake
* Magnitude of Metal
* Addicting Food
* The Lost Bride
* Secret Delivery
* The Graves Butler
* Doc's Secret Plan[/blockquote]
Doing the above should have unlocked Waterfall Tears. Check to make sure it's on the list. When you finished Doc's Secret Plan, you unlocked Dr. Montague as well.

3. Do Dr. Osto's Research. At the end of the quest, Sue will ask your name. DO NOT tell her. After not telling her your name, enter the pipe and finish the quest. This will unlock Unsealed Door.
Note: Take any enemy part to Dr. Montague and he will convert it for you. If you want to do more than one, just cancel the job and restart the quest to change another part.

4. Do Unsealed Door. Along the way, you'll see Sue. Talk to her and finish the quest. This should have unlocked From the Depths. Check the list to make sure and continue.
Note: Take any enemy part to Dr. Montague and he will convert it for you. If you want to do more than one, just cancel the job and restart the quest to change another part.

5. Do Waterfall Tears. You'll fight Anna twice during the quest. After you whup her the second time, DO NOT go into the telepipe. Look at your map. There should be a green arrow just north of you. That's Kireek. Follow your map to get to him. After a short cutscene, he'll try to kill you. It's imperative that he does not succeed. After you slap him around a bit, he'll run away. Pipe up and finish the quest. This will unlock Black Paper.

6. Do Black Paper. In Caves 1, check your map. There should be a green arrow on it to the east of the start. That's Kireek again. He still wants to kill you. Follow the map and take him on again. He'll run away again. Finish the quest.

7. Do From the Depths. Ash will join you in Ruins 3. After you get the Monument Data, Ash will go off to look for survivors. Backtrack to Ruins 2. Check your map. The two arrows are Ash and Kireek. Wind your way back to their location. You'll notice Ash lying unconscious on the ground. Big surprise. Kireek is pretty insane this time, it's for keeps. If you manage to survive, you'll be rewarded with the Soul Eater.

Notes:
* Make sure you have less than 30 items in your inventory when Kireek dies or else you won't get the Soul Eater.
* Don't stand near Kireek when you cast Resta or you will heal him. This goes for Shifta/Deband as well.
* Kireek uses a Soul Banish in hard mode and up, but you can't get it from him. You still get the Soul Eater. This ruins the replay value of this side quest, IMHO.

Thanks a lot Harlequin. ;)

Akiko's Frying Pan Guide

Like the Soul Eater, Akiko's Frying Pan is a rare weapon that is only obtained through completing tasks in the offline guild quests. And like the Soul Eater, the sooner you get this weapon the more effective it is. The Frying Pan also possesses a comedic effect that makes it desirable regardless of it's usefulness as an actual weapon. Here's the steps to getting it.

1. Complete all the guild quests in any difficulty.

2. Return to the guild quest Secret Delivery. Once there, find the male NPC in orange and purple near the Nurse's Station. Talk with him and he'll ask you some questions. Respond to each of his questions with "!!". He'll explain to you what WEAPONS is, and he'll give you an emblem. Now complete Secret Delivery.

3. Now do the following quests (order does not matter): Claiming a Stake, Value of Money, Gran Squall and Lost Bride. In each of these quests, you'll find a NPC on Pioneer 2 that is a member of WEAPONS. Find them, talk to them, and you'll receive another emblem. Remember you have to complete the quest you're in after receiving the emblem for the game to recognize you have it, so don't just get the emblem and quit.

4. Once you've obtained all five emblems, return to Secret Delivery. Talk to the NPC next to the bank and she'll give you Akiko's Frying Pan. Completing the quest is not necessary. Now have fun whacking boomas with a frying pan. ;D

Soul of a Blacksmith Guide

Completing the Soul of a Blacksmith offline guild quest can net you one of three rare weapons if completed properly. The three weapons you can receive are:

* God Hand
* Supressed Gun
* Technical Crozier

The requirements for obtaining them are pretty easy.

1. You have to be in ultimate difficulty

2. You must obtain the Blue Mineral located in Caves 3 as the last mineral your contractor needs. Giving him a Red or Green Mineral will result in a plain basic class of weapon. The Blue Mineral is located in a wall portion of Caves 3, in a small circular room. You have to be looking closely for it, for it's easy to miss if you don't know the location prior. You can find a map detailing the location of all the minerals [link=http://www.planetdreamcast.com/psoworld/sections.php?op=viewarticle&artid=633]here[/link].

3. Once you get all three minerals (the last one being the Blue Mineral), take them to your contractor and he'll give you the choice of a sword, gun or rod. Select the sword for a God Hand, the gun for a Supressed Gun, or the rod for a Technical Crozier.

4. You can only receive one rare weapon from Soul of a Blacksmith per character, so to get the other selections, you need to get another character to ultimate and do the process again.

Letter from Lionel Guide

You don't receive a rare item from the Letter from Lionel quest, but it consistently gives players problems just trying to complete it. Here are some guildelines.

1. On your way to finding Lionel's head, you'll see a NPC Ranger in Forest 2. Talk to him and he mentions some shady business, and then disappear. You'll be seeing him later.

2. Play until the end of Forest 2. In the little room off of the elevated platorm section of Forest 2 (the one you have to warp to), you'll find Lionel's head. Go to your quest board and talk to him. Say you will help him find the rest of his body and you can continue on the quest.

3. Go back through Forest 2, and a door that was previously locked is now unlocked. Go into it's room, and defeat the hildebear within. He'll drop Lionel's Right Arm. Go to your quest board again and talk with the Right Arm. It'll give you hints on the location of his legs.

4. Travel back to Forest 1 and search in the stream of it's biggest room. You should find the glowing white star that is Lionel's Right Leg.

5. Now, travel back through Forest 2 and continue to Caves 1 and 2. Once in Caves 2, you'll find Lionel's Left Leg at the very end of it. After receving all 4 parts (head, right arm, left and right leg) from the levels, pipe back up to Pioneer 2.

6. You should find the Ranger near the entrance of the Guild Quest area. Talk with him and he'll cough up the rest of Lionel. You are now in possession of a complete Lionel, so by all means, get your reward meseta at the counter.

7. Detailed maps of this quest can be found [link=http://www.planetdreamcast.com/psoworld/sections.php?op=viewarticle&artid=634]here[/link].

Amplifiers and Merges

Throughout the course of the game you may find items called amplifiers. You can use these items with special barriers to create shields called merges. Merges do one of the following: increase the strength of your attack techniques, or increase the range of your support techniques.

There are 3 separate color coded barriers you can find, each corresponding to a different series of attack technique; red for the foie series, blue for the barta series and yellow for the zonde series. Exact merge combinations and technique increases for the attack merges are as follows:

Red Barrier combines with the following:
Foie Amplifer for Foie Merge - 30% more power to Foie when worn
Gifoie Amplifer for Gifoie Merge - 30% more power to Gifoie when worn
Rafoie Amplifer for Rafoie Merge - 30% more power to Rafoie when worn
Red Amplifer for Red Merge - 20% more power to all Foie techniques when worn

Blue Barrier combines with the following:
Barta Amplifer for Barta Merge - 30% more power to Barta when worn
Gibarta Amplifer for Gibarta Merge - 30% more power to Gibarta when worn
Rabarta Amplifer for Rabarta Merge - 30% more power to Rabarta when worn
Blue Amplifer for Blue Merge - 20% more power to all Barta techniques when worn

Yellow Barrier combines with the following:
Zonde Amplifer for Zonde Merge - 30% more power to Zonde when worn
Gizonde Amplifer for Gizonde Merge - 30% more power to Gizonde when worn
Razonde Amplifer for Razonde Merge - 30% more power to Razonde when worn
Yellow Amplifer for Yellow Merge - 20% more power to all Zonde techniques when worn

For the support spells, there's two different barriers you can find; recovery (for resta and anti) and assist (for shifta and deband). Like I said earlier, these don't increase the potency of the techniques, they simply allow for the techs to reach party memebers further away. The merge combinations for the support techniques are as follows:

Recovery Barrier combines with the following:
Resta Amplifier for Resta Merge - Boosts casting range of Resta
Anti Amplifier for Anti Merge - Boosts casting range of Anti

Assist Barrier combines with the following:
Shifta Amplifier for Shifta Merge - Boosts casting range of Shifta
Deband Amplifier for Deband Merge - Bosts casting range of Deband

Photon Drops

Photon Drops are currently only useful online (unless you need a quick 1000 meseta). You need to go to the "Gallons Shop" Quest. Go down the ramp in P2 so you go to the open commons area. Take a left and go down that small alley. A FOnewm will be there. If you have any Drops on you, he will ask you if you want to talk at his father. Say yes, and you can trade all the drops on you for items.

Also, with each level of Items, the previous items are available as well. For example, at 99 Drops, you can still get a Monomate or a Red Barrier.

1+: Monomate, Monofluid, Recovery Barrier, Assist Barrier, Add Slot

16+: Parasite Cell D

17+: Berril Photon, Magic Water, Nei's Claw, Blue Barrier, Red Barrier, Yellow Barrier

35+: Heart Key

50+: Photon Booster, Photon Blaster, Blue-Black Stone

99: Photon Sphere

Adding Elements to S-Rank Weapons.

If you have completed the online East Tower quest, and taken the necessary steps, you will be able to speak to Hopkins. Paganini will now offer to add elements to you S-rank weapons along with exchanging pds for items..

Elements and pd cost
A-50 Jellen, Zalure, Arrest, Demon and Hell
B-40 Geist, Spirit, Chaos, King and Berserk
C-30 Burning, Blizzard, Tempest, HP Drain and TP Drain

Adding Percentages to Weapons

If you have successfully completed the online West Tower quest, and taken the necessary steps, you will be able to speak to Hopkins and add percentages to your weapons.

Paganini will now offer to add percents to weapons based on photon drops and photon spheres.

20 photon drops- 5% addition
1 Phonto Sphere- 30% addition

Rules:

Can add percents to the same attribute multiple times.
Can't add percents to an S-rank weapon.
Cannot add percents to hit.
Can add percents to a attribute even if its at 0%.
Can add percents to a total of 100%.
Can add percents to multiple attributes on the same weapon. .
You can only have % in three areas. If you do and try to upgrade an area that has 0%, thats why you'll get an error.
When using a photon sphere, you must have 70% or lower to use it.

Item Combination

Episode I and II has introduced an intricate item combining process new to the PSO world. Many existing weapons and armors can be upgraded into new weapons and equipment. While I'm sure there's many combinations that have yet to be discovered, a good amount have. The following is a list of known combinations. I haven't done any of these personally, so there may be inaccuracies.

Created Item = Items Needed for Combination

Hunter Weapons
Berril Knuckle Type 1 = Berril Knuckle Type 0 + Berril Photon
Sange Yasha = Sange + Yasha
Black King Bar = Monkey King Bar + Blue-Black Stone
Lavis Blades = Lavis Cannon + Syncesta
Double Cannon = Lavis Blades + Syncesta
Dark Flow = Sword Series + Parasitic Gene "Flow"

Ranger Weapons
Egg Blaster = Handgun Series + Parts of Egg Blaster
Iron Faust = Panzer Faust + Photon Booster
Burning Visit = Flame Visit + Photon Booster
Snow Queen = Frozen Shooter + Photon Booster
Power Maser = Maser Beam + Photon Booster
Dark Meteor = Shot Series + Parasitic Gene "Flow"

Force Weapons
Summit Moon = Cane Series + Magic Rock "Moola"
Twinkle Star = Wand Series + Star Amplifier
Magical Piece = Wand Series + Heart Key
Striker of Chao = Branch of Paku Paku + Chao Mag
Plantain Huge Fan = Fatsia + Magic Water
Plantain Fan = Plantain Leaf + Magic Water
Dancing Hitogata = Hitogata + Book of Hitogata
Dark Bridge = Rod Series + Parasitic Gene "Flow"

Armor
Brightness Circle = Spirit Garment + Star Amplifier
Aura Field = Spirit Garment + Magic Rock "Moola"
Love Heart = Spirit Garment + Heart Key
Chu Chu Fever = Spirit Garment + Chu Chu Mag
Safety Heart = Invisible Guard + Heart Key
Parasite Wear: De Rol = Stink Frame + Parasite Cell D
Parasite Wear: Nelgal = Parasite Wear: De Rol + Parasite Cell D
Parasite Wear: Vajulla = Parasite Wear: Nelgal + Parasite Cell D
Virus Wear: Lafuteria = Parasite Wear: Vajulla + Parasite Cell D

Now, for a lot of these combinations there's extra requirements for the combination to work, whether it be grinding amounts or the level of your character. Follow the link to my source to get all the specifics for each combination, and also for updates on new combinations.

Challenge Mode

This guide is intended as a mini challenge mode guide which covers tactics and discussion of challenge mode (or cmode for short) play. It is a guide compiled out of love of the experience of pure PSO, a way of playing where you are not the only hero, where playing as a team takes your skills and resulting times far beyond an individual effort with no thoughts about the welfare of the teams you participate in. You will get the most out of this guide if you play cmode for the very experience of cmode itself, rather than playing cmode for an s-rank item.

Now on to the guide.

Class Overview

HUmar

Not the "worst" Hunter choice as far as cmode play is concerned, in fact he has a lot going for him that needs to be appreciated. He is a male character and hence gets the excellent male saber animation. He also has a substantial amount of ATA as far as hunters are concerned. The HUcast's pitiful ATA is really apparent when a HUmar is used. Has a decent amount of ATP which is used to kill enemies fast and efficiently. His drawbacks are really his lack of immunity to poison and paralysis, and his lack of traps; a serious setback as traps really make the difference in a cmode game as far as time is concerned.

HUnewearl

Considered the "worst" Hunter for challenge mode with good reason. The versatility of a HUnewearl is not seen until the HUne reaches a sizable level of experience, an amount you will not see playing cmode. Her ATA growth is very slow, on par with that of the HUcast. Her ATP is the lowest of the hunters preventing her from easily using a pallasch. Her MST advantage has little effect in the realm of cmode. To top it off, she is vulnerable to poison and paralysis as well as having the less favorable female saber animation, all on top of not being able to use traps. To be avoided unless one is looking for a challenge which I wholeheartedly recommend to anyone once they have a grasp of cmode.

HUcast

A very popular choice for challenge mode. His popularity has some substance behind it though. He has the highest ATP in cmode which allows the HUcast to equip a pallasch without any help, has the male saber animation, has a high amount of HP, immune to poison and parlysis, and can use traps. His glaring weakness is his lack of ATA, which is counteracted by teamwork, an adept grasp on defensive HU fighting, and a good hit% weapon.

HUcaseal

The other common HU found in cmode games is the HUcaseal. The HUcaseal is quite versatile in cmode. She has a decent amount of ATP, a very nice amount of ATA, immune to paralysis and poison, and can use traps. With her incredible amount of ATA she can use powerful handguns and mechguns when necessary, weapons useful for a variety of reasons which I will cover later. Her only weakness I can see is her female saber animation, a weakness which isn't a big deal.

RAmar

Not a very common cmode choice but has a few redeeming qualities which should be mentioned. His ATA is the highest out of the Rangers, which will allow him to connect with his weapon's special abilities if it has one. ATP isn't a grand issue for Rangers as their role is not to deal damage in a cmode game. His vulnerability to poison and paralysis, and his inability to use traps are his shortcomings.

RAmarl

The HUnewearl of the Rangers, the RAmarl is considered the "worst" Ranger for cmode play. Her only advantage over other Rangers is her MST, which is more or less useless in cmode for non Force players. All her other stats are outdone by the other Rangers. To make things worse, she suffers what other non androids suffer from, a vulnerability to poison and paralysis, and an inability to use traps. Use the RAmarl for a challenge or to change things up.

RAcast

Not a bad choice for cmode. He has the advantages of being an android, but also has the ability to disarm the traps he spots because he usually uses a gun. His ATP is higher than his female counterpart, the RAcaseal, but his DFP and ATA are lower. There are no real weaknesses to an android Ranger in cmode.

RAcaseal

Another excellent choice for cmode. She has the android advantages, the 2nd highest ATA of the Rangers, and the ability to disarm traps with ease. No glaring weaknesses.

FOmar

Not a common Force you see in challenge mode, but Forces are fortunate in that they all have something to contribute in cmode. The FOmar's strengths are his increased shifta range, his bonus to gifoie, and his fast barehanded casting speed. Weaknesses are his low HP levels.

FOmarl

Pretty common Force as far as non-TA Forces are concerned. The increased resta and shifta range make survival a non-issue. She also is the most durable of the Forces. However her tech-damage is the lowest out of the Forces. Normally this wouldn't matter in the DC challenge mode days, but with the increased tech damage of the GC version and the FOmarls lack of innate bonuses, she is not the greatest Force to use for TA purposes.

FOnewm

A good force for TA. High MST, rafoie and gifoie bonuses, fast barehand cast speed. Weakness is his lack of range on support spells.

FOnewearl

A good Force for either survival or TA play. The highest MST of the Forces, basic tech bonus damage which proves to make a big difference in TA games, and increased resta range to make survival of the team easier. Her weakness is that she is the most fragile of the forces, and does not have the very fast barehanded casting rate the male Forces have.

Weapons Analysis

Saber Class

The saber class of weaponry is going to be one of the more important weapon classes one will use in cmode. It does the largest amount of damage per hit of all the weapons, it is accurate, and it causes a decent amount of knockback. This class of weaponry will be used quite often with good reason; it's common, powerful, and useful. The male saber animation is great. It causes knockback and moves your character around. The third hit of the combo usually does not leave you open to retaliation by a monster. The female saber animation is not so great but still does the job. It does not cover a lot of ground, and the third hit animation lags a bit more than the male animation does. The bread and butter of cmode.

Dagger Class

The dagger class of weaponry is good when one uses them correctly. Used correctly, they can quickly dispatch foes. However used incorrectly they are just going to lead to much pain and suffering on the hunter using them. The daggers of non HUcaseals should be used on an enemy who is targetting anyone but you. HUcaseals should also follow the same advice but it is not as crucial as it is to non HUcaseals.

Sword Class

The sword class of weaponry is good, but only in certain situations. Unfortunately you are forced to use a sword in the beginning of certain cmode stages when it is more favorable to have a saber on hand. The sword is inaccurate but powerful. Swords also have poor weapon animations for both genders. 3 hit combos with swords should be used very sparingly. With a sword, attack only monsters who aren't targetting you, preferably ones with their back turned. Swords are good for De Rol Le and frozen clusters of enemies. They are also rather nice on groups of confused enemies beating on each other.

Partisan Class

Far superior to a sword at the cost of less ATP. They are faster and more acccurate, cause a decent amount of knockback, and are able to be used with 3 hit combos with no chance of retaliation unless your third heavy strike misses. Useful if one HU in a 3 HU party is wielding this to support the other HUs.

Slicer Class

Only to be used if no other options are available.

Handgun Class[/color

Gameplay Description and Combat
People tend to write this game off as another idiotic card game that is just trying to cash in on the success of Yu-Gi-Oh. This is a very incorrect belief. PSO3 is more accuratly described as a strategy game in the same vein as Advance Wars but the battles are on a much smaller scale. In combat you move your character across a grid while equiping items, sending out monsters, casting spells and using special boosting cards called "action and "assist" cards. This may sound boring but once you get the hang of it the game becomes incredibly addictive and enjoyable just like PSO 1&2 was before it. I will now explain the flow of combat

Step 1: Roll
~You roll your "dice" and get two different values for "attack and "defense". Attack determines how many actions you make take this turn such as moving, equiping.

Step 2: Set
~In this phase you play your items or creatures onto the field. Each item or creatures costs a certain ammount of action points.

Step 4: Move
~In this phase you can move your creatures and character around the grid. The ammount of spaces you can move is based on your characters move value and the ammount of action points you have left. Each move costs 1 action point.

Step 5: Act
~This is a pretty self explanatory phase. You simply choose what you are going to attack and with what using your creatures or weapons. You can also use action and assist cards to change attack effects and alter the playing field. Your attack damage is equal to your characters AP+your weapons AP(hunters only)+your mags AP(hunters only)+any action card bonus you use. If you are using a spell then it is the same formula but you just substitute your TP value for you AP value.

Step 6: Defense
~In this phase your opponents chooses what defensive cards they are going to use to defend themselves from your attacks. Defensive cards use "Defense" points that your rolled in your last turn.

Step 7: Draw
~Here you can discard cards from your hand and draw new ones.

Step 8: End Turn
~Your turn ends and its now your opponents turn to do stuff.

Hunters Overview
Hunters are what you used in Phantasy Star 1&2. You equip item cards onto your character such as armor, weapons and mags which boost your stats and give you abilities. Just like in 1&2 you can use a Force, Ranger or Hunter. They each specialize in a different form of combat. Hunters are the best at using sword type melee cards, Rangers excel and long range combat with gun types and Forces use spell cards to utilize poweful magical attacks. But if you have played PSO 1&2 then your probably know all of this.

Unlike Arkz, Hunters can defend their HP from attacks with their items. As long as you have some sort of item equiped your opponent cannot directly harm you without some sort of special attack card(I will get to that later). However each time one of your items is destroyed you will lose 1 HP. You can guard your items and health with defensive cards which each have different effects such as negating all sword damage, subtracting a certain ammount of damage or returning it back against the attacker.

Your goal is to fight your way to the enemy Arkz as fast as you can while trying to take out their monster cards. You are a lot more powerful than even their best monster card so you want to blast your way through and crush the enemy. You can either equip lots of weaker weapons to combo with or you can equip a few powerful items for 1 shot TKO's

Hunters are much easier to start out with early in the game. Since you are only controlling 1 character on the field you wont have to think as much as when you are using an Arkz.

Arkz Overview
Arkz are the opposite of hunters. They rely on their monsters to do the dirty work for them in combat. As an Arkz you summon creatures onto the field to try and stop the enemy from getting to your character. You will be in a very tight spot if the enemy gets to your because Arkz have no way to defend their HP without defend cards or guard monsters(an example of a guard monster would be a Pan-Arms).

Arkz may not use items but they can still use spell, assist, action and defense cards. Arkz even have a weak attack that they can use in a pinch which varies between characters called a "shadow weapon". These weapons they have dont have any sort of AP bonus but they do allow the Arkz to attack using it. In general Arkz have higher stats than a Hunter but this is just a form of balance because hunters have the ability to boost all their stats.

The goal of an Arkz is to overwhelm and overpower your opponent with huge swarms of weak monsters or giant beasts who deal big damage but cost a lot. You want to try and stop the enemy Hunter by walling them in, redirecting their movement and just general stalling tactics while smashing away at their gear and trying to break all of it so you can get directly to their HP.

Arkz are for mid to high level players. They are harder to use than hunters so you might want to start with hunters first to get a feel for the game before you move onto playing an Arkz deck.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does my CLvL have to do with anything?
It determines the rarity of the cards you recieve at the end of a battle. A person with a high CLvl has a better chance of recieving more rare cards.

Do I have to pay an additional monthly fee to play PSO 3 if I already have a hunters license for EP. 1&2? [/b]
No

Does section ID affect anything in this game?
No, not really. Section ID means nothing in Ep. 3 as far as anyone knows. There might be some sort of special features for each section later but currently your ID color affects nothing .

Do I use my character I created in combat?
No, your use a character card. Your created character is just an avatar for walking around in the lobbies. It does not appear in combat at any point.

How can I see the Manga styled cut scenes?
If you have selected the correct character for a scenario then you will get to see the cut scene. If you talk to your crew before a match you should get some hints from them about who you should dispatch. I have a chart for who you should use in the FAQ[/i]

There are 4 different deck colors at the end of a battle. What does the color mean?
Blue: Enemy Cards Occur More Often
Red: Item Cards Occur More Often
Green: Action/Assist Cards Occur More Often
Black: Neutral. There is no preference.

Why cant I trade my items that I only have one of?
For some stupid reason the game does not allow you to trade your singles.

Where do I find the cider for that guy in the Morgue/R-base?
In training mode just look around and talk to people and they will give your cider to take back to the guy. Once you have given it all to him he will give you the Akikos Wok. Dont get too happy. The Wok is a pretty bad card under most circumstances and it is not a good idea to use it in combat unless you are god at this game

What is meseta for anyway
You can use it to buy cards and new music tracks at the store and it boosts your rank online.

What is a V.I.P card?
You randomly find these in your booster packs. They allow you to enter the lottery room online with some of your friends. This is an online only feature. In the lottery you are assigned a certain amount of points that you can use to get items. You and your friends each try to bid for it auction style and the winner gets the item. VIP cards are one use only. Once you leave the room you will need to find a new one to get back in.

Why cant I use the store?
The feature is only available online.

Im afraid of hacks......
Dont worry, as far as anyone can tell the game has yet to have been hacked. But if you are using an Action replay to try and mess up the game........ Well, I hope you burn in hell.

Whats the deal with those powered up shots and defensive stuff that happens in story mode?
Sometimes in story mode if you have selected the right character your characters will interact and a special effect will be produced

Can you visit the Episode 1&2 lobbies?
Yeah, but you cant really do anything besides talk

WTF, im a hunter with items equiped but the enemy just hit my HP directly!
That is because the opponent used the "Pierce" ability. It gives a card the ability to bypass items and hit HP. Its a pain in the a$$ and if you see someone using a piercing attack use a defense card ASAP if you have one.

Ack, my card just glowed and transformed into another card when I got it out of the booster pack!
That is called card transfromation/evolution. If you have more than 10 of a card then it will transform into a rarer card sometimes.[/i]

How do I get a high rank at the end of a battle
Here is the formula........
35 + (Attack Damage - Damage Taken) + (Max Card Combo x 3) - (Story Character Damage x 1.8) - (Turns x 2.7) + (Action Card Negated Damage x 0.8)

The number that results is checked against this chart
Score Rank
0-14 E
15-24 D
25-29 D+
30-39 C
40-49 C+
50-59 B
60-64 B+
65-74 A
75-84 A+
85+ S
(props to kmson for looking that up for me)

If I lose a a battle do I still get cards
Yes but not as many as you would have if you had won

I attacked an Arkz but instead of damaging him my attack was redirected to a Pan-Arms. Why?
Pan-Arms is a type of monsters called a "guard creature. If you attack its controller your attack is redirected to the guard creature instead. The balance to this is that if you manage to kill the guard creature it will usually take away a chunk of its controllers HP.

how come sometimes (ark/hero) can equip around 2 or 3 monsters/items, while in other ocations, it can go pass 3 or 4 ?
You can have a max of 8 points worth of monsters or items out on the field. Each item or monster has a bar with yellow dots on it. The yellow dots show how many points the card is worth. Pay attention to that befoer you play a card. If you want to create big attack combos then it would not be a good idea to play a expensive card.

Character Statistics: HUNTERS

(if it says Humanoid that means the card cannot use techniques but is immune to status effects)

Sil'fer
Hp:+0
AP:+3
TP+1
MV:2

Description: Sil'fer has no innate abilitys. She is however the best beginer card and is very powerful to boot. Out of all the hunter cards she has the highest AP and she is the ony "Hunter" class hunter(lol) to have any TP points.

Orland
Hp:-3
Ap:+1
Tp:+0
MV:2

Description: Orlands AP is increased by the number of sword type items on the field equiped by himself and a teammate. The best way to use him is to equip lots of cheap sword weapons so he gets a huge bonus. If you want to use lots of high point cost items in a battle you are better off with Sil'fer. He is especially good when teamed up with another hunter who is using more sword type items. His AP will be huge in a game like that.

Teifu Humanoid
Hp:-3
Ap:+2
Tp:+0
MV:2

Description: Teifu cannot us techniques and is immune to status effects like all androids. He has a nice ability that boosts his AP by half the number of enemy cards currently on the field(monster and item). He is a great card to use against people who use combo decks. They will play lots of cards on the field and it will give Teifu great AP.

Saligun Humanoid
Hp:-1
Ap:2
Tp:+0
MV:3

Description: Cannot use Techniques and immunity to status effects. Also if a card attacks here with three or less AP it does no damage. Very highly recomended.

Relmitos
Hp:+0
Ap:+0
Tp:+3
MV:3

Description: Relmitos is a bit of an oddball. Everytime he attacks his AP and TP are switched. He can spontaneously become a melee fighter or a technique user depending on how you use him. He is very tricky to use so unless you are good I wouldnt recommend him.

Guykild Humanoid
Hp:-5
Ap:+2
Tp:+0
MV:3

Description: Blech. Guykild is possibly the WORST hunter card in the game. He does not take damage when one of his items is broken. This is a great ability but his second one offsets it and makes him horrible. He requires twice the normal action point requirement to attack. This ability destroys poor Guykild. Not to mention the fact that he has the lowest HP of any of the hunters. I really wouldnt recommend him under any circumstances but if you like him then go ahead.

Kranz
Hp:-1
Ap:2
Tp:+1
MV:2

Description: Kranz gets bonus Exp. whenever he kills something. You will get major dice bonus's very quickly using him. Also he has an ability called "fixed range. No matter what action card you use his range will stay the same.

Ino'lis
Hp:-1
Ap:+1
Tp:+1
MV:3

Description: Ino'lis uses one less action point when casting Techniques. She is a nice middle of the road card and her ability will allow you to squeeze in more attacks than usual

Glustar
Hp:+0
Ap:+1
Tp:+3
MV:3

Description: Glustar has no innate abilitys. He has the highest TP for the forces(Relmitos not withstanding since sometimes he will have zero TP) so he is a very strong and easy to use character.

Stella Humanoid
Hp:-1
Ap:1
Tp:+0
MV:4

Description: Stella has same fixed range ability as Kranz. She also has the highest move total in the game which is very nice.

Kylaria

Hp:+0
Ap:+3
Tp:+0
MV:2

Description: Kylaria is the best ranger card in the game. Even the offical PSO3 guide says so. She has good stats and whenever she kills a item or monster while using an action card her AP is boosted by 1. She is awsome. Everyone should use her.

Viviana
Hp:-1
Ap:+1
Tp:+1
MV:2

Description: Vivianas TP is boosted by whatever the current dice bonus is. She is pretty good. Not the best but not the worst.

Character Profiles: ARKZ

Break
Hp:+4
Ap:+3
Tp:+4
MV:3

Description: Break has not innate abilitys but he is the best beginer Arkz and he has some of the best stats. If you are just starting out with Arkz Break is a good first character to start out with.

Endu
Hp:+0
Ap:+2
Tp:+0
MV:3

Description: Whenever break attacks a Hunter character himself he damages all of their items. This is a very powerful ability which mostly compensates for the fact that Endu has lower stats than most of the other Arkz

Memoru
Hp:+4
Ap:+1
Tp:+4
MV:4

Description: If Memoru kills a creature or item her exp bonus is boosted by damage dealt.

Lura Humanoid
Hp:+2
Ap:+2
Tp:+0
MV:4

Description: Lura does 1.5 damage to flying creatures and she has the fixed range ability(see Kranz for details). She is a very solid card and her shadow weapon allows her to hit multiple targets and take down flying creatures easily.

Rio
Hp:+3
Ap:+2
Tp:+1
MV:3

Description: If you use an action card to kill a creature or item her AP is boosted by one. She can deal some pretty big damage if you have lots of action cards.

Ohgun Humanoid
Hp:+1
Ap:+2
Tp:+0
MV:2

Description: Any an attack does more than 5 damage to Ohgun the damage is halved. Ohgun is a good character but kind of bland.

Peko
Hp:+3
Ap:+2
Tp:+2
MV:3

Description: Techniques used by this character cost 1 less to play. He is basically the same as Ino'lis. He can use more attacks per turn thanks to his ability so its a good idea to load a deck using Peko with lots of Technique cards.

Creinu
Hp:-1
Ap:+0
Tp:+1
MV:3

Description: Creature cards around Creinu gain 1 HP each turn. This is a spectacular ability and it really compensates for Creinus lower stats.

K.C
Hp:+3
Ap:+2
Tp:+1
MV:4

Description: If you use an action card to kill a creature or item with KC you gain bonus exp.

Rufina
Hp:+5
Ap:+3
Tp:+1
MV:4

Description: If an actio card is used by Rufina her damage is increased by 2. LoL, Runfina is the only Arkz who can actually do more damage than her monsters under some circumstances. She has no weakneses so she is a great card to use.

Hyze Humanoid
Hp:+4
Ap:+4
Tp:+0
MV:3

Description: Wow, this guys ability is great! All creatures and characters around him get an additional 1 AP. Highly recommended.

Reiz Humanoid
Hp:+0
Ap:+1
Tp:+0
MV:3

Description: Reiz is the only character card in the game who has the pierce ability. If she attacks a Hunter directly she ignores all items and attacks their HP instead. Though you should probably not use her to attack under most circumstances. If you try and go up to a hunter and attack him you will probably get hammered in the next turn. Use her with discretion.

Ok, that covers most of the main points that people generally ask. If you did not find the info you were looking for plz PM me your question and I will add it onto a later edition of the FAQ. Sorry if this one is a little incomplete but I only have so much time on my hands.

Huge credit to [link=http://www.planetdreamcast.com/psoworld/index.php]PSO WORLD[/link] I got most of my info off that site and if you want more head over there.

Unlocking The Dressing Room
Finish both Offline Story Mode Arkz and Hunter storyline to unlock the dressing room. You can only use it once, after that it will disappear. To unlock it again, finish either side of the Offline Story Mode. This will happen every time after you use the dressing room.

just scanned this for no real reason and there are a few errors i noticed..

EP1&2

Photon Spheres cost 95 photon drops, not 99.

in the technique resistances section, i noticed this:

"Sinow Zele - Grants
Sinow Zoa - Foie
Sinow Zele - Barta"

EP3

"Saligun Humanoid
Hp:-1
Ap:2
Tp:+0
MV:3

Description: Cannot use Techniques and immunity to status effects. Also if a card attacks here with three or less AP it does no damage. Very highly recomended."

Saligun's description should be changed to:
[Description: Cannot use Techniques and immunity to status effects. Also if a creature or item card attacks her that costs 3 or less Action Points to set, it only deals half damage regardless of action cards set and their costs. Very highly recomended.]

"Rio
Hp:+3
Ap:+2
Tp:+1
MV:3

Description: If you use an action card to kill a creature or item her AP is boosted by one. She can deal some pretty big damage if you have lots of action cards."

Rio's special rule is revenge, so for every 2 ally characters destroyed, she gains 1 AP. this "boosted AP with an action card" idea is nonsense.

i apologize if i sound harsh or demanding.. im tired.

At a guess your referring to PSO Episode 3 so i'll fill you in pso-Bl3ach.

Offline you can collect cards but the system is so much different now. The level system as well as leveling is all the same but instead of your main character getting stronger it just enables you to find rarer cards in your booster packs you win. You know play with set players. So basically you know just collect cards :/

You basically play a numerous amount of fights in story mode collecting cards along the way until you fight a stupidly hard boss at the end (the Dark players make easier work of it though)

All the card are sorted into set orders so you have Weapons, Armour, Sheilds, Mags, Enemies and Stat cards which have various effects.

The multiplayer offline mode is rather....simplistic.
The main character moves their character around while the others sit back and watch. You can trade cards with them or engage in battles.

Yes you can enter a 2 player Vs Computer fight because this is how me and my friend use to collect cards using two player Vs two computer player or two made characters to just beat up.

Hope that helps you out some ^^
