So after much trial & error, I've gotten the multiple/mismatched profile thing worked out. I've created a self-service tool that will let you change which profile is associated to your main MyIGN account. If you don't know what I'm talking about or you don't have multiple old boards profiles this doesn't apply to you.

I've hidden the link in the spoiler tag below because you should read this important information first!

1) Not all data will be moved and there is no guarantee that if you lose data you'll be able to get it back.
1b) We know that any blogs previously written will not be associated to you once this change happens. This is because the blogs are associated to your username not your userId.
1c) There might be other types of data not moved but this is the only one I know of right now.

2) Your old URL will no longer work. For example, http://people.ign.com/lookyhere now 404s since the account was changed to http://people.ign.com/machine1A

3) There is some cached data that I cannot update during the change. For example, the main site header may show your old username for up to 24 hours due to caching. The "last message posted by" information will retain your old account name until a new message is posted in that thread.

4) Forum posts migrated before you made this change will still show up as not associated to you. I will be fixing this over the next several days and will include a final fixit run at the same time I sync up the post counts. Any forum posts you've posted in the new system or any forum posts migrated after you change the profile will be properly attributed to you.

5) You can only do this once so choose carefully. Once it is done it cannot be reverted nor associated to a different profile.

6) If you have changed your email address recently, it may not find your old profiles. If this happens to you, change your email address back and it should find them.

7) I'm not positive that this will fix everyone. If it doesn't, we'll take a look and see what we can do. There will be a username change feature coming in the next couple of months. So if it doesn't work, you may have to just wait for that (sorry).

8) If everything doesn't work, be sure to log out, clear all cookies and then log back in. Whatever else you do, make sure you only login via http://s.ign.com/login or the new boards. If you use the old login pages I cannot guarantee that it won't screw something up.

9) Don't panic!

10) [face_dancing]like it's 1999 all over again.
